Browns Socialhouse offers a sleekly well-designed yet casual atmosphere with warm, efficient and unpretentious service. The creative menu is comfort food inspired, fusing west coast cuisine with our very Vancouver ethnic influences. We offer a great selection of appetizers, full sized main courses and fun desserts, we also serve a delicious brunch menu on the weekends and holidays. Our signature center bar offers up a great meeting place for cocktails.
I noticed this restaurant being built in the new building on Douglas where the HSBC is. Nice location, seems like a good reason to visit.
The staff look good and they seem to be taking their cue from the Cactus Club. I did not check out the washrooms although the decor is very new age. Frankly, that was my biggest complaint as I sat myself, or rather perched, on a bar stool at a small round table as it was too cool to sit outside when I went. After 20 minutes, I found it very uncomfortable and could not relax lest I fell off the stool. I had a gourmet burger of some description and a beer. The beer was good but the burger proceeded to fall apart because there was so much stuff jammed into it. I had to wipe my hands down from all the goo that squeezed out. Service was good and really just about the right level of attentiveness inquirying how the food was, did I want another drink, etc.
So, all in all, I assume this will become one of the trendy places to go which means that I will move somewhere else to have a quiet good lunch. That is not a complaint against Browns, but just the type of customer I am. The prices were equivalent to the Cactus Club and they seem to have hired some good looking staff who know it. Good luck....
Came here for my birthday celebration last month along with ten friends. One of Victoria's newest establishments is out of the blocks in a very impressive fashion. My friend arranged the dinner and although they don't "officially" take reservations they were very accommodation. When we arrived the hostess at the front door was extremely friendly and in good spirits. Not sure what to expect when we walked through the doors because as mentioned they don't really take reservations. I was impressed to see a long table set for ten ready for us right by the bar. Our order was taken promptly once everyone arrived. Our server was very good, busy due in part to our table of ten but she didn't miss a beat.
I ordered one of their pizza's. It was a thin crust pizza just the right size and was very nice, not outstanding but as per my review a "solid" tasting pizza. My dining partners had various different things, a couple had the thai salad and they reported it to be very good.
Earlier in the day one of my friends brought by an ice cream cake to be served after dinner. Without prompting our server brought the cake , candles and all. I was very impressed because I have found that some establishments sort of frown on this bring your own cake sort of thing, not here they were more than happy to do it for us and made my birthday dinner a very pleasant experience.
Browns Socialhouse falls into the same category as Earl's, Milestones, Cactus Club. I have been to all of these establishments mentioned and so far the service here beats them all.
I've been here twice and I find it hard to leave. The food was great both times, but the service and atmosphere are amazing. I've never been to a restaurant before and stayed for three hours after the meal. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to hang out and have some good food
I have been there twice now and have found both times very good. Excellent food and value and the environment is vibrant and exciting. Definitely one of the better places in town.
The staff however have a bit of the superstar attitude and ignoring tables certainly does not encourage tips.
I will still return if I have time to kill. After all I do go for the food and atmosphere. Poor service seldom keeps me away from a good kitchen and nice place.
I have lived in Victoria now for about 10 months, and love it. I would however say that the restaurant scene can be a little lacking when it comes to fun places to eat and hang out... Until now. Browns seems to have hit the nail on the head, great food, good drinks, freindly management, hot waitresses, but most of all a fun and comforatable atmosphere. Nothing beets this place on a Friday night, or any night for that matter. I am not sure if people in Victoria follow DineHere, but if you do take my word for it and check out Browns Socialhouse.
