I love Avalon! The food is all homemade and amazing!, they have this oaten bread maid with oats and honey that comes with this strawberry rhubarb jam that is to die for and there eggs bennys are the best in town. I suggest if you want a place where you want to be treated like family and have fresh homemade food that's affordable and fast this is the place to be : )
Prett good location. Nice size of place. Pretty good service. Expensive for what you get. There are better breakfast places in town. The fruit and granola type plate they serve is weak and over priced. The fruit was very cheaply/thinly sliced. The eggs benny wasn't as good as I had been told, in fact far, far from it. Generalliy, I would say that Avalon is over-rated, and I think that is a fair and accurate assessment. May not go back.
A few words to describe:
Nice location on Fort Street, just west of Cook in the heart of Antique Row.
Consistent in quality.
Cozy room (but can be drafty in the cold weather when the door gets opened)
Attentive service at all times.
A rather small but diverse menu, with creative selections for daily specials.
Breakfasts are very good but note: these are not truck-stop sized servings. You'll be pleasantly filled but not so much so that you need a sleep afterward.
Sandwiches and soups are very nice meals - made from scratch and very tasty.
Their home-made toast and home-made jams are wonderful.
Really good burgers.
Well worth it, and they stand up well in what is a very competive market for breakfast-lunch restaurants.
