It's just opened - so maybe not fair

Applebees just opened on Aug 29 and it really isn't fair to do a rating so soon - but who said life is fair? This is a franchise so the operators had a chance to train their staff according to the manual. There are lots of corners that need to be smoothed out, as the staff were tripping over each other in trying to do the right thing. I can't begin to imagine how stressed they were. There was confusion over who our waiter was and another waitress tried to give me a drink I did not order.

Applebees is not fine dining but seems to be popular in a number of cities where I have visited them. Most of the food was well cooked and presented although service was slow, a bit haphazard and the wrap I had was unaccountably soggy.

The restaurant is located in the Tuscany Village Mall and I recommend you just go straight to the underground parking (when you find the entrance). Surface parking is in short supply and the door to the restaurant is awkward to find.

It will be interesting to see if they smooth out the opening glitches and get things working smoothly. If this worries you , you may want to wait a while before visiting.

My nefew attends University of Victoria so i decided to take him and his roommates out for dinner while i was there for the weekend. We went to applebees because it was just around the corner of the university. When we first walked it i thought to myself that the colors and menu's and atmospher was awesome. They have these speakers at every table and you can choose which tv you want to listen too. But after that everything went down hill. The steak i ordered tasted like it was thawed out in the morning from the freezer, the prawns were little mini ones that tasted like rubber. I don't know how the americans like there food but here in canada we want little grease with a great taste. This American franchise should just go home!!!

I liked the place when I walked in. The atmosephere was nice and the service was perfect. But the food was terrible. everything looks good on the menu, but everything tastes like it just came out of a microwave. prices were good, but I cant reccomend this place because the food was so bad.

My friends and I decided to go to Applebees since we've never been there before, and as we were walking there, we were thinking about how great everything must be because we see a lot of people in there most of the time. Was I wrong? Somewhat.

We entered the restaurant, and first of all, saw no hostess..Not a big deal, she's probably helping some other customers. So finally we see this girl, obviously the hostess looking at us, and walking away. WHAT?! Fine, not a big deal, she probably went to go set up a table for us, and just when she was walking back, another group of people came in and she served them FIRST! WHAT IS THAT?! So the girl comes back and told us we were going to have to wait AGAIN so she can set up a table! GOD!

So dinner with that waiter guy..let me tell you..I have never been so disrespected before. He basically wanted to shoo us out of the restaurant! We told him we had two more friends coming, so we're going to wait for them before we ordered, I thought he listened, but obviously not. He came back with is little notepad and started asking for our order...HELLO?! WE'RE NOT READY! Finally when my two friends came, they barely sat down and out comes the waiter again asking for our order. We quickly decided, and the food came out rather quickly...

The waiter kept on staring at us to see if we were finished with the food yet, honestly, the food JUST came! He came to our table a few times to see if we were finished, and finally, we were finished, we didn't even ask for the bill, but he gave it to us anyway. RUDE MUCH!

As we were leaving, he didn't say bye, the hostess couldn't care less for us, wow..never should've left a tip. I was extremely disappointed with the service.

An American Chain Restuarant..

Well, my boyfriend and I went there and thought it was a neat atmosphere if you're going for burgers and beers and watching the game. Children may get a kick out of it as well. Once we had ordered my boyfriend decided he would like to add ribs to the order, so we put it with my order of chicken strips, as it was an option to get with them. The waitress was very kind and said she'd get the kitchen staff to do that if they could - which they did. Soon the food came out, only to have my boyfriend's burger was not the right burger. It was sent back, and he soon got his actual burger. I went to have some of my fries after having my over crispy and somewhat cold chicken strips, only to find them ice cold and tasted as if they were 2 days old. I didn't bother to eat them, and not send them back, as I wasn't even that interested in them in the first place. The ribs on the other hand were rather good, so I give them that. The manager did come out and talk with us, and apologized for the burger. He talked to us saying they're still working out some kinks in the kitchen staff and what not, and he was very polite and understanding. He didn't charge us for my boyfriend's meal either. Possibly going there in another month or two when they may have a better kitchen staff might be a good choice, but I more then likely will not return.

What A Disaster!

Oh my, what a disaster!
Applebee's is an American restaurant chain that just opened up a location in Victoria BC Canada.

I have a rather nasty habit of trying out new restaurants that open in Victoria and when I saw the sign of Applebee's when I was driving up McKenzie I thought..."Well, I see American comercials for this on TV all the time, let's check it out".

When entering you are greeted politely and with a smile and taken to an available talble and given your menu.

I opened the menu and was right off the start not impressed with their selection. The menu mainly consists of burgers, salads, steaks and side orders. After going over the menu I honestly could not agree on one single thing that was presented to me. So instead of lunch I ordered a desert.

When the desert was brought to me, it was very dissapointing to say the least. It was similar to a cheap duncan hines brownie that you make at home from one of those pre-mix packages......it was warm with a nasty tasting chocolate syrup on top and the exact same syrup was filled into the middle of it. This was not a desert that was made for good impressions LOL. Anyhow I ate the horrible thing and felt ill after. It was served on a disgustingly filthy plate that had some sort of dried on Guck. The utensils were also filthy and coated in dried on residue. I reported this to the waitress who showed very little interest in what I had to say.

The atmosphere is very similar to a Boston Pizza...lots of TV's playing sports and a very young (early 20's trend)........The piped music was thankfully quiet but was not leveled properly and had way too much bass.

I can see this establishment mainly appealing to young University students with no sense of taste or class.

I shall not return and give this new Victoria Restaurant a BIG THUMBS DOWN.

Good family restaurant

I went to this restaurant 3 days after it opened. I took 4 grandchildren and was amazed at what a good job they did considering how soon it was after opening. We had a very pleasant , very efficient waitress. Food was really good for a upper scale family restaurant. Amuch needed addition to Gordon Head.
