The focus is on sushi at Akemi. In addition to sushi, Akemi also offers a number of cooked Japanese specialties and Bento boxes. The restaurant is fully licenced and there is selection of four sakes including the house warm sake and three different premium cold sakes.
I decided to try this restaurant for take out. This was my first experience and I won't be going back.
The prices compared to my favourite restaurant downtown were extremely high, not posted on the website so when you got there to pick up your order you had no idea what to expect to pay.
The food was warm. Sushi should never be warm. I'm worried I'm going to be sick. The rice was warm, the fish was warm, the Sunomono salad was expensive and lacking in content. I'm sure it was canned crab meat!!! If you want a good experience with sushi, save your money and go somewhere else. I'm so disappointed, I won't ever be recommending this place to anyone. Probably the fact there were no patrons in the restaurant should be a clue.
akemi is only ok
i ate in there once, nice, mainly do takeout. the service is good and friendly with a smile every time. it's to bad there roll is way over price and to small. i only love there bento box there the only thing that is werth it. i did takeout the day after victoria day and it was very disappointing. there box still made me happy but there sushi really not werth it. the rice is not season well very plain there spider roll was cooked in old oil and tasted bad. the rainbow roll and dynamite roll tasted old. there spicy tuna was small with very little tuna. im not sure if they closed on that monday because it was a holiday but the roll for sure is not fresh. that day was the day that we will not order rolls from them again. but i still love there bento box cause you can never go wrong with that. beside im not able to not like that place cause the older couple are always so nice. im always gonna still do take out but only for there box.
We have been here several times since moving to the island and the food remains superb. This is a great little known gem in Colwood that you should visit at least once or twice to see if you like. The bento boxes are my favorite and the sushi, okay everything on the menu, is my wife's favorite! yummy! going there now.
