Save yourself the hassle guys, do not go here. Time to face the music Josephine, providing horrible customer service and sub par food does not make it in Vancouver. I went here the other day for some lunch, and got some kind of undercooked mess. I asked to talk to the owner and Josephine came over and continued to tell me that there was nothing wrong with her food and it was all in my head. I couldn't believe that a person would go out of their way to be so rude to a customer. Wish I could get my money back , as I will not support such a horrible person. Josephine you really need to take a long hard look at yourself and make some changes.

We were a group of 7 celebrating my sister's graduation (medical school, no biggie) and decided to come here to eat and enjoy the view. I had been here once and loved it but this time around it was a little chilly. Should have paid another visit during the summer.

The waiter was amicable from the get go, and got us started with some crab and shrimp cakes. Amaziiiiing! Came with a great sauce made out of mango(?) I believe. The beef tenderloin was cooked to perfection, and I took a little bit of my mom's halibut to try and it was excellent. The prices are normally what I wouldn't pay for on an average meal, but since we were celebrating it was a good excuse to splurge.

I used to come here a lot for a quick lunch. Their pasta was delicious, came in huge portions and very cheap (but not cheap as in low quality). And don't even get me started on their tiramisu. Was in the West End doing some errands and decided to stop by for old times sake. Shouldn't have. It seems to have gone downhill. The pasta tasted canned and nothing fresh, which wasn't the case before. I'm not so sure I'll be back.

Went for brunch with my 4yr old son for his birthday as read the place was kid friendly. That may be so, but food quality + taste was lacking (even for veg), the place was dirty, and the servers seem like pot heads waiting impatiently for their next smoke break and not really interested in much else. Basically a cafeteria rather than a restaurant. Would not recommend nor go back.

Mediocre food, abysmal service

This was a very disappointing evening.
There is seating downstairs and upstairs as well as patios on both levels. We were seated on the upstairs level. The upstairs is the more formal of the two with white linen tablecloths and a more formal atmosphere. They have a couple of tables on the outside patio upstairs and they looked very nice. It is a beautiful room and the menu prices are not unreasonable if the food is good (it was not) and the service is good (absolutely one of the worst experiences I’ve had service wise in a restaurant.)
Water was brought to our table reasonably quickly but after that it was a good 20 minutes before anyone asked if we would like a drink. Dinner took over 2 hours and we had l glass of wine each, 1 entrée each and a shared dessert. A table of 2 ladies beside us had appetizer, entrees and dessert and were finished their dinner and we still had not received our entrée. They sat down 20 minutes after we did. I guess if you’re 2 attractive ladies you can expect better service. For entrees my husband had the lamb shank that he said was very good. I had a ½ Cornish game hen that was overcooked and came with very bitter kale and potato rosti. We waited well over ½ an hour from the time we ordered dessert until it was brought to the table. We shared a pecan tart. I’ve had better pecan tart from Safeway. I told my husband that I should give them my recipe for pie crust as their crust was lacking any flavor and slightly on the tough side.
It is really unfortunate because it is a beautiful room and the prices are reasonable for the Yaletown area but the food was not good and the service is a joke. My husband is generally a very generous tipper but I told him that the service was so bad that he needed to adjust his tipping accordingly.
We would not return. There are too many really good restaurants to give this one another try.

Fusion delight

East is East is one of those places you either love or hate. I personally liked the ambiance of the place, the softness that is contrasted by the wood tables and all, but maybe because I had not heard much about it. My colleagues were a little disappointed because they felt the place had been hyped, and weren't too fond of the lack of lighting.

That aside though, the food was incredible. A bit of a fusion between Indian food and Afghan food made for a great selection. I personally am a fan of Asian and ethnic so I didn't mind. There was a wide variety of veg & non-vegetarian dishes: I opted for the Bombay Masala and Mughal(?) to try a bit of both. Extremely tasty - the coconut curry was delicious and the chicken did not disappoint. Not too spicy, and definitely worth it.

Worth the wait

Initially when we first called them up to try their famous deep dish they told us there would be a wait…of at least 45 minutes. Apparently that is how long the special deep dish takes to make? Since there was still time for the game to begin we said okay and what was like 50 minutes later (or so it seemed) we found ourselves with a medium sized Chicago special staring back at us. The pizza definitely is nothing like what I’ve ever had, and cannot be eaten with your hands. The sauce was amazingly tangy and tasted unique, and with the thickness of the cheese we had to use a fork to hold it all. Lasted throughout the game so that was good.

Let me just start off by saying that I've been to the Red Onion before but stopped going because I felt that their service was going downhill. Decided to try it out again but was disappointed.

Didn't think a burger place could go so bad. I should’ve figured it out from the lack of people in this place. I ordered a red onion burger and some fries; the meat was a bit hard and burnt and the fries were a bit cold and greasy. Was a bit disappointed as it was not cheap. I think I would give them less stars but the waitresses were okay. They were helpful and did not treat me bad. Other than that, give this place a miss.

Our choice for Indian food

A couple of friends and I decided to meet up for lunch to discuss some issues regarding our music and business ventures. We decided to try India Bistro because the buffet is an easy pick and tastes good. We came too late and by the time we got a seat it was over. Since one of our pals was craving Indian from the city, we decided to stick around and just order from the menu.

We ordered some drinks to begin with and the appys gave it a nice touch. Pakoras were very good, tasted even better than the samosas which is weird. As far as the menu is concerned, it is pretty standard in terms of selections - you can get what you normally do at Indian restaurants. We got the butter chicken which was a no brainer but the other dishes (lamb vindaloo and tandoori chicken) did not fall behind. The spiciness is not too much but the taste still manages to be there. The bill did not come out too expensive if you don't count the drinks.

This WAS one of my favourite places for asain food. I ordered as usual the sweet soy glazed chicken and beef rolls. When they came i opened so excited and they messed up my order. They gave me cold cheap tasting sweet and sour chicken. Completely different to what I ordered. I called them to explain and the lady on the phone just kept denying that they messed up. I explained that I am a frequent diner with them and i know full well what the soy glazed chicken was. And she started yelling at me!!! Even though i was very calm. This is ruined this place for me which is quite sad.

Poor Value for your Money

I've been to this address many times in the past when Kaplan's was here. The food was always very good, service and value for your money too.
The restaurant part has changed. The Ambiance is okay except for the overly bright lights hanging overhead. They could reduce the wattage and safe some money on the hydro bill. I ordered my standard sandwich and a drink taking note of a price hike for the sandwich. To 'supersize' it would have cost $14.95. What I failed to note is that their smoked meat isn't Montreal Style Smoked Meat. So I was a little disappointed in that. The meal came fairly quickly, delivered to my table (you now take a number on a stand to place on your table). I didn't find anything special about their smoked meat - just ordinary I'd say. But the sandwich was small, no slaw but they did throw in a pickle. It was on bread the size a ciabatta. I read the rest of their menu board and nearly choked on $12 for a hamburger and $16 for a double-burger. Maybe it came with lots of fries - who knows. So sorry, I won't go back. No Montreal Smoked meat. Small portion. Just not value for your money.

We've been out to the Vancouver X-Site restaurant twice on a Friday night.
Both times, the service was quite good. Casual and friendly servers with regular check-up on meals/drinks to top-up. They have food and liquor specials each night and the prices are reasonable. X-Site could be called a Sports Pub with live music and/or local watering hole.
Mexican specialties were quite tasty and good value.
Chorizo nachos were quite big plate and tasty.

On Friday nights, they have an open mic for locals that play/sing. Entertaining and laid back.

Very good location for a nice night out without blowing the budget. Highly recommend for anyone in the Hastings Sunrise neighbourhood.

I visited on Friday 4 Dec, 2015, (Davie) for dinner. I ordered Roast Lamb, that came to dry and cold. My server (Sandra # 6) was not attentive with her service nor when I informed about the food. Later, I requested a to go box because I had more than half my meal. The box came back with Rice ONLY. I asked about it and I was informed that she thought that I was done. How I told her, if I was done why do you think that I ask you to pack my food and what made you decide that I did want the rice but not the lamb, potatoes, etc? I even complain to the manager who apologized but no compensation was offered. So I paid for a full meal but I really ended up with a small part of it.

Stay away if you don't want to be humiliated!
By drmomen of Vancouver (1 Review)
Submitted Friday, December 4, 2015 - 1:00am [Dine in]

Stay away!!
They serve old horrible food in their buffet that seem kept refrigerated for days and from left overs of the previous day's buffet! They pour grease and oil/fat on all the food with lots of salt thinking they can fool people around to mask the rotten taste of old food. There's basically no service; rude and mean servers and chief. This is NOT a Lebanese restaurant; may be one day it was long ago when a Lebanese chief was in charge and the food was good back then; not anymore with the new immature Libyan caterers of poor attitude, food and service. Myself, my wife, and our infant went there for their "buffet" and the 'server' let us in without telling us that restaurant will close in half an hour. He removed all the food from the buffet while we were still eating and fully charged us! His excuse was "Working hours are written on the door and we are not staying a minute longer"!! He literally kicked us out! Not just that, while he was arguing with me at his desk another customer just came in and he served him although he was basically "closed"! That was unethica, unprofessional and the most horrible experience we've ever had in a 'restaurant'. So if you don't want to be humiliated and you want to keep your dignity stay away!

Since the Imperial Dim Sum closed down in the Marine Building and Victoria Chinese closed down for renovations for what seems like an eternity, there was a collective wail for dim sum in Downtown Vancouver.

Thank goodness that the Victoria Chinese has opened up again and seems rejuvenated. The dishes are standard dim sum fare and very reliable. Several of the old timers from Imperial have taken up residence at Victoria, and you can tell from the attentive waiters and the efficient service.

Rio is my favorite restaurant in downtown Vancouver. It has a amazing concept, live atmosphere, good service. We can have, beef, lamb, chicken, pork with different type of cuts served to our table in a big skewer, seafood in the hot buffet. also lots of salad. They have Brazilian dancers in the weekend and Caipirinha (Brazilian cocktail) is so good!

Waited 40 minutes for my take-out.

My girlfriend and I waited 40 minutes for our take-out order, 25minutes spent drinking hot tea out of a plastic cup... a group of 4 comes in and gets their food before ours, so I of course asked the server why is it taking so long and reasoned it with because this establishment had only 1 cook working. That's fine, but then when the server comes out with our food I get up ready to take our food and leave asap, I grab the handle of the plastic bag and she snatches it back, asking me are you sure this order is ours. Even though we were only ones in that restaurant waiting for food. Like seriously, this server had an intelligence of a hotdog.

Authentic Mexican Food

I'm surprised to see that no one else has reviewed this place before. The crowds this place drew definitely make it seem popular. I've eaten here a couple of times and can now say the food tastes authentically Mexican. There is a common trend to make Mexican food taste and look like Tex - Mex but this is not the case here.

The food was excellent, and I spotted more than one Hispanic person in the room - a clear sign that what I was getting was genuine food. This is a place to go in groups and the food is ridiculously good, whether it was tacos, quesadillas or chicharron de queso. I was also impressed by the restaurant's tidiness - simple, but clean.

I’m a little wary of places that advertise themselves as a place because I always feel like they will sell you something completely different or watered down. This was the feeling I had with “Slice of Chicago”. Upon calling them to check, I decided to place an order.

The large for $18 set me up for a smallish looking pizza, which was the complete opposite when it arrived. The delivery boy came rather quickly and didn’t have to call to ask for directions on how to get to my place (something that happens all the time now that I’ve moved). My order consisted of cheesy bites and a large Chicagoan (the name of the pizza). The pizza was quite large to my surprise, extra cheesy and tasted delicious. Not greasy at all, and quite healthy.
