Good spot for burgers, sandwiches and beers. Portions are good. The food is fresh and doesnt come with any pretenses. The hot and cold sandwich options are where I always end up at but the menu is pretty extensive and they do a pretty good brunch menu that goes along great with a caesar.
This place is in my neighbourhood and it has never failed to impress. A first visit might make you think that the wait time is a bit long but I have learned time and time again that the reason for the wait? They make FRESH food everytime. For instance... most Mexican restaurants scoop tortilla chips out of a bag. At this place the make them fresh! What a great idea! The tortilla soup is a great dish. chicken stock and fresh tortillas all seasoned perfectly. They use the real Mexican style cheese not shredded mozza out of a bag. The nachos are priced for 1 person but enough for 2 people. Its not a big place and sometimes the TV is playing Mexican soap operas a little too loud... but wow do they ever do wonders in that kitchen. Muy bien!
They don't care! The location is the only thing that keeps this place in operation. If it weren't for the fact that it's near a Sky train station, theere would be another coffee shop there. I wanted veggies.lots of veggies.if I wanted noodles and meat with too much oil, I would have made a point of ordering oily meat and noodles. I made a point of LOTS OF VEGGIES! And for the price of a meal for two, that feed only me, I got ripped off.
They had to bring me some veggies as a side dish to make up for the lack of them in my meal. And what they brought was just oily baby boo choy.
With the ten other places near by that had far more customers inside, I messed up.

We popped into the Discovery Café downstairs at the Jericho Youth Hostel for breakfast while scootering around the area on a sunny Saturday morning. Ordered the corn beef hash for me and the others got Chuckwagon breakfasts. Coffees was rich and we enjoyed a couple cups while we waited about 40 minutes for meals. There were only a couple other tables occupied so I don't know why it took so long but we weren't in any rush.
The corned beef hash was excellent...real corned beef (texture like pulled pork) with roast potatoes, onions and red peppers seared up with two soft poached eggs and hollandaise on top. The Chuckwagons were scrambled eggs, sausage patties, bacon, hash brown potatoes and a dish of baked beans. Each breakfast came with an enormous wedge biscuit with butter and jam. Lots of delicious food. Bill for three people was $42 including a tip. We'd definitely come back for breakfast and now we're wondering what lunch/dinner would be like.
I have only been here once but I already LOVED this place. The restaurant doesn’t look like anything special from the outside, but when you try the food, you will realize it’s good.
Thankfully, we had a reservation so did not have to wait (Tip #1: get a reservation!). Once we were seated, at first I was undecided on whether I should order samosas or pakoras, as I am a huge fan of both, so the waiter suggested I try the Mixed Platter. It came with samosas and pakoras together, and could serve two people for a price of $10. I also had dal turka (dark lentils) with rice pulao. Lastly, I had yogurt called raita and a crispy cracker called pappadum for $2 each. Was impressed with everything I ate! The food was amazing and SOO GOOD. Seriously, Akbar’s must have some of the best Indian food in town, if not THE best!
All the restaurant workers that we interacted with were very polite and well mannered. Our waiter was very thoughtful, making sure we were comfortable and giving us good suggestions when asked.
Our regular Indian for the past couple of years. Far superior to other choices up the hill on Davie. Have only had delivery which is free and has always been timely, hot and accurate. Mains including butter chicken and prawn karhai are top notch as are pakoras, naan and raita. Highly recommended.
Commercial Drive is full of pizza places. Seriously. There are several around this area which makes it all the better for the customer as there are tons of options to chose from. Pizza places have to compete with each other and up their game.
That being said, QUALITY prevails in this family-run restaurant. I like 4 Brothers because the ingredients are fresh, the pizza is not greasy and it is cheap. From the menu, I always prefer the super hawaiian pizza. The variety of toppings to chose from are endless, and if you don't like what's being offered in the menu, you can make your own pizza from scratch.
I come here on Monday's sometimes because their double order of wings are $6 off. I really like their boneless wings (Actually all the wings) and I have had a fish burger once and that was good, but don't like anything else on their menu. I don't like their pizza, I don't like their pasta and I certainly don't like their beef burgers.
I usually come with a friend of mine, and I won't order anything but the wings and fries.....He will get a beer and some pasta dish....He likes it.
But the wings that I order are really really good and filling....and I love the sauces that I am able to get with it. would give it a 4, but have eaten other foods here too, so down graded to a 3.
Service is always sensational at Boston Pizza. Probably the only reason why I even returned to a Boston Pizza after eating other stuff on their menu that was crappy. Glad I tried their wings though.....That's good
I've been to this place many times before on and off. Don't know why I don't patron here more often....Maybe I like hamburgers too much, but anyways.
Last week I came here with a friend of mine.....the décor I find is great. It's a little crampy, so wouldn't suggest coming with a large crowd.....but a few friends would definitely be great. It was pretty busy when we came, so after a few moments my friend and I just went up to the front and asked to be seated, which was fine (Hey, it's not White Spot, Milestone's or Earl's) it's an independently owned restaurant.....they don't need to impress us by having some hot hostess waiting at the door to seat us.......not all restaurant owners have excess money to hire staff members that are not required (Just good service and good food is what I am looking for)
Anyhow, we were seated and since we were two we sat at the two seater table by the wall, but later on a lady (owner?) asked us if we would like one of the bigger centre tables regardless if it was just us. We gladly accepted (Good Service there)
Shortly after we ordered. I ordered chicken fettucini with alfredo sauce, and my friend ordered a large souvlaki dinner. We shared a saganaki. The saganaki was ok. I guess in order for it to be good, you have to pretty much eat it right after it comes off the stove. I guess by the time it gets to your table it hardens, but I notice that at all Greek restaurants when I get Saganaki (not the restaurants fault....guess just the way it is) So I guess I won't be eating Saganaki ever again at a restaurant.
Anyhow, main dishes.....OH MY GOODNESS. Flavourful Fettucini. oh and it came with a choice of a salad (I chose ceasar) both were fantastic and for only $14 and BIG portion. My friends souvlaki was BIG....yes, it was a large but wasn't expecting that size. I think it came with 2 souvlakia if I remember correctly.....I finished my food, but my friend had to take theirs to go......My friend actually complained that they even put TOO much rice (but hey, better than not enough I say)
This is certainly a place that I will be coming back to more often.....cheap prices and good food. I mean really. You HAVE to try this place and DON'T tell me that you don't like it.
I remember this place being amazing for its POUTINE. It used to be poutine heaven for me because of the variety of poutines you could chose from. I never considered La Belle Patate to be cheap but for the sizes of poutine and the quality served I tended to overlook it. But now that I have come back a couple of times after trying other places, I feel that the food has either gone downhill or something...Whatever it is, I feel that it is not up to par with the other poutine-places in the city. The cheese curds were okay but the fries were burnt, and the gravy was a little cold and lackluster (the gravy is vegetarian, which takes away half of the taste already).
I have ordered take-out from Akbar's a couple of times in the past and liked their food but never really had the opportunity to eat in. Vancouver has so many places to eat that it's hard to try them all at out.
So this time around, I ate at Akbars. To be honest, the restaurant didn't look anything special from the outside. JUST OKAY. Once inside it was better, not to mention the fact that i like spicy food. We arrived at around 7 pm and the place was kind of full but thankfully we had a reservation. Thinking i was a champ, i ordered butter chicken with palak panner at the most spicy level and suffered. I should've known! Grasping for water, I asked the waiter if i could be changed to something less spicy. Thankfully they did. Once my plate was changed, I was able to enjoy my meal :)
ARC is the former Herons Restaurant at the Fairmont Waterfront, situated directly across from the Vancouver Trade & Convention Centre. After having read the reviews on Herons on this site I was somewhat hesitant to try out ARC, as I noticed the Executive Chef was still the same. However the few reviews I could locate online were quite favourable.
We were seated promptly for our 7PM reservation. The restaurant is located on the main floor (lobby level) of the hotel, so while the windows are floor to ceiling & provides seating on two levels, the view is primarily that of the street and convention centre, with only limited views of the mountains. We were however seated with that view. If the view is important, another venue might be a better choice.
Wines by the glass were steep, in the $15 range for a 6 oz serving. We tried the Blasted Church Pinot Gris and it was well received. Appys were in the $10 - 17 dollar range, with entrees starting at $24 for a pasta reaching $38 for the Rack of Lamb. Desserts were the most reasonable, most under $10, with their own ice cream at $6.
We started off by sharing an order of Foraged Mushroom Toast on rosemary bread ($10). In light of the modest price, the serving was adequate for two & quite tasty. For our entrees, I ordered the Glazed Duck Breast ($32) and my wife the Roast Rack of Yakima Valley Lamb ($38).
My duck was disappointing. It could not be described as dry, but I found it if not tough, somewhat rubbery, with very little taste. It came with a ancient grain. which I took an immediate dislike to. The vegetables however were delicious.
The rack of lamb was quite small, only two racks, but prepared medium rare as ordered. It had a good portion of mashed potatoes, mushrooms and peas. My wife enjoyed the dish.
My duck was replaced without question by their Cavatelli Pasta, which was served in a heavy cream sauce which contained mushrooms & peas (a theme on their menu and they have a roof garden). The pasta had a somewhat chewy texture like Gnocchi. Overall it was wonderful.
Dessert was their Maple Hazelnut ice cream, a large portion which two could easily share. Not sure if as a result of it being our anniversary or due to my duck, but they brought me a Bag of Doughnuts which came with three sauces. Tasted just like PNE. An innovative and welcome end to the evening. We were both pleasantly full.
The staff and manager were all very pleasant, attentive and eager to please. Overall it was a very pleasant evening spent in a nice location in the heart of the city.
Did lunch on a Groupon. We really weren't expecting much based upon some of the previous reviews and the location, being situated in touristy Gastown. The antipasto for two was excellent and included quality prosciutto, three large prawns, provolone, salami, tomatoes, arugula, and some pickled veggies. Mains consisted of a good sized Atlantic lobster (which the kitchen had kindly split in half and cracked open the claws) with a side of al dente pasta which was substituted for risotto by request at no additional cost, and a delicious grilled scallop and prawn combo. Both dishes were accompanied by perfectly cooked green beans, squash and beets. Service was extremely pleasant and professional. Only complaint was that the chocolate ganache tort for dessert was rather tasteless. Will definitely be back.
i had a good time all in all and just wanted to post that. if you are looking for a good draught selection and a fun patio do it up. our server was very busy but she was all smiles ta the table. we got a few appies and they were decent, no complaints.
Our office recently hosted a corporate event for 200+ and I was thoroughly impressed with the professionalism and efficiency shown by everyone at Butler, starting from the initial planning stages through various iterations of the menu and adjustments of supplies - our planner was endlessly patient and quick to accommodate every step as our needs evolved.
On the night of the event, the set-up of the bars and serving tables was accomplished attractively and tastefully; the service staff were attentive without being oppressive; platters were replenished speedily and always looked appetizing; staff circulated constantly to keep stock full and to clear away leavings. Everything ran smoothly and easily, even when our elevator stopped working and the servers had to resort to using stairs to go between floors! Make your event easier to plan by calling Butler.
This is just a hole in the wall at the corner of Victoria and 36th, but that doesn't affect the food. I was very pleased with my meal, everything was fast and fresh and very tasty. I might ask for the recipe for the salsa. I have certainly had some disappointing Mexican food experiences in Vancouver at much higher prices. I had good authentic food here at a very good price.
Well I'm never going back there TERRIBLE SERVICE! INCOMPETENT WAITRESS!(who was absent for most of our meal) , FOOD was OK BUT NOT WORTH WAITING OVER AN HOUR FOR !
It wasn't as bad at first but as time went on the service went downhill . The waitress messed up our order and missed 2 items we asked for. Entree was burnt and over salted. I was never asked if I wanted another glass of wine. The manager was not in charge, he had no control over his staff. This was the worst way to kick start a weekend! I give it a F for failure.
We wanted to go to a place without huge line-ups. This was the place.
We ordered the Calamari entree with rice, potatoes, salad, and cooked vegetables. We were surprised that the food looked and tasted like it had been around for days. The calamari had unrecognizable tenderness with a slight bitterness that we all tasted. The potato wedges were shrunken, flexible, and dry around the edges. The carrots were brown where the scraping was not fully complete. The texture of the green beans appeared canned. The salad was warm. We will seek fresher food at a different place next time.
Came for a stopover from cruise ..and thought Vancouver had "authentic" Indian meals...I'm gonna just stop and say please stay away from these money hungry owners.no respect..felt we were looked down on..CHEF is not authentic or trained and I will bet on it..one older turban guy came to tell corny jokes...give it a rest and focus on good service.NASTY!..hope Indian food in Vancouver is better than this un aromatic Indian cuisine...
Excellent food, service and entertainment. A great time had by all. The service was excellent and our server had a great sense of humor. We started with some thin crust pizzas that had a perfect crust and so flavourful. The rest of our appies and entrees were very good as well and then for dessert... Cannoli! To die for. Nearly Neil put on a great performance for the full house and we had a fun time on the dance floor. Can't wait to see more shows here- it is a great venue!
