Zin Restaurant & Lounge offers a west coast menu with International flair. It is located in the Pacific Pallisades Hotel in downtown Vancouver.
I really like this place when you are busy with your shopping and want to relax at decent joint this is the one good food and drinks .... classic..
however this the place you have to experience..
Very good location and handsome server will make your day..
I really like the lights reflect on the side walk with its sign says ZIN..
Its very catchy you will never miss this place on Robson Street forsure.. Its decent place for cosy couple..
Love the look, the service was very good, and the food was wonderful. Other then a under cooked steak and the frites were a little plain..............the rest of the meals were dead on lovely!!
Ravioli was tasty, drinks were yummy, but the topper...........FLOURLESS CHOCOLATE CAKE is so gooey warmey, it was to die for!!!!
I'm not too sure who Chef Akira is, as the new Chef is the award-winning Karen Gin who recently received the 2008 Vancouver Mayor's Award. She joined the restaurant in the summer of 2008 and seems to have brought in many fresh changes to the menu. It's fun, approachable and affordable.
The room is no longer the retro-chic bright reds, oranges and purples. It's a little more subdued and elegant, and apparently according to the server, more modern updates to come.
The service was unobtrusive, though the restaurant was quiet.
We dined on a Thursday night as we had an event at the adjacent hotel. Location is great!
Since I was staying at the Pacific Palisades, I decided to try out Zin. My experience was excellent, much better than the average hotel restaurant.
The service was impeccable: the staff was attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu.
I have a gluten allergy and I was impressed by the staff's knowledge of Celiac Disease and of all the ingredients of the items on the menu.
Improvements could me made on the furniture and décor, but overall, this was a very pleasant experience.
I ate at this restaurant to celebrate birthdays that two of my friends shared last night. There were 7 of us in total. The place was devoid of any other customers, and was empty when I glanced through the windows. I was immediately wary of the place, but we were hungry and one of the birthday girls insisted we try out the place.
I have to say that the ambiance is very mellow and cool. The booth we were seated at was high and cushioned, perfect combination of privacy and comfort.
The waitress was somewhat attentive. I say somewhat because she forgot my drink order. When it was just me and my friends in the restaurant, I find it odd how my drink order was forgotten. When she asked me if I wanted my drink, I replied with a curt "no" because we were already through with our meal, and were about to leave. She then offered me a free mojito drink to appease me, which I took very grudgingly. I left a marginal tip for that alone.
It did not take that long for the food to arrive. I, along with birthday girl who suggested this dining place, ordered the scallop dish, and it was not worth the $24 I paid. The scallops were a bit rubbery for my liking and tasted bland (saved only by the tasty chutney sauce), and the dish consisted of 3 sea scallops atop of an equal number of spinach patty looking items. I could easily fit all the dish items on the palm of my hand, which is not at all large. 3 of my friends had the salmon curry soup dish, and seemed to like the dish, except that they complained about some stomach tingling after the meal. Another friend ordered the seared fish, I can't remember, and although she said it tasted fine, the size of the dish was about as big as a large scoop of ice cream and looked bland. Another friend ordered the crab cakes, which seemed okay to me, although she didn't really voice what she really thought of the food.
All in all, I would really hesitate in dining here again.
Thisplace is well located, beutiful decor, everything well arranged, the food is not the number one but not too bad, why then idn't rocking? The service. There's no management in this place at all.
Server and kitchen have to be trained properly and followed up. The cocktail list is pretty good by the way. I'll give another chance.
This place is extremely trendy-looking, with hip decor and layout. It's right on Robson so I assume going for the rich shopper clientele. The service was nice and the food was too, but it seems to be "designer" food - small portions mostly concerned with how impressive it looks on the plate. I have a big appetite and a low tolerance for yuppie pretense so this place turned me off.
I am not a "trendster" willing to pay big bucks just to be seen in a supposedly cool place. It all rang phony to me, and I was not happy paying such large amounts for such small portions. I left there hungry. But for people looking for a snack before/after hitting a nightclub, this place might be fine.
As the Mother In-Law of the Chef Akira he has been there for a while he is trying to be more creative and try some more artistic styles, were all so glad that everyone has noticed remember Akira is one of the citys best. He will be continuing to surprize us with his cullinary magic, put it this way you will be plesantly surprized there are few around like him
Zin was our first (of many) Dine Out Vancouver restaurants for 2008, and my spouse and I had mixed reactions to each course. I loved my soup; she didn't care too much for the beet salad; she loved her lamb shank (braised six hours!!!); I thought my ling cod was a bit bland. I loved the chili-infused chocolate mousse - she found it way over the top.
Our server was great - very on top of our needs, food arrived timely, no complaints at all there. I did give ambiance a 2 rating though because, even though the restaurant had many empty tables, we were (for some reason) seated near the back next to a very noisy party in some other room - I think I would have preferred to sit somewhere away from that noise, as the rest of the restaurant was pretty quiet.
I had the wine pairing, which was just ridiculously inexpensive at $18 on top of the $25 three courser. The pairing helped my bland cod, and my s/o said her pairing went especially well with her braised lamb.
The space is nice and definitely funky retro 70s style, but not over the top. We'll definitely be back (but next time, we may ask to sit away from any loud function that may be going on next door).
I never noticed Zin before, although it apparently has been around for a while. Went on Sunday night with a few friends and found an amazing new cool restaurant. The room is a bit too hip for me, with bold colours and unusual touches, but the service and food were outstanding. Everything we ordered came with a surprise. The salmon dish ended up as a Salmon stew, the scallops were huge and done with a mild curry sauce. The serving staff seemed very warm and inviting and while the room was pretty full, seemed like they had the time and interest in getting to know us and make sure the experience was just what we wanted. I would definately go back and took their lunch and breakfast menus with me to pour over.
Great experience.!!
If you haven't been to Zin lately you should go. I have been reading a lot about the Chef lately. Chef Whittaker is got it going on. The dishes are extremely flavorful and well seasoned. He is using local ingredients which I totally respect and the flavors of his global menu hit the mark. The staff are incredibly friendly. I enjoy great wine and good food but I honestly don't always know the correct pairing. My server was gracious and suggested a fab wine that complimented my sable fish and didn't break the bank.
I enjoyed my dinner their so much I went back to check out the brunch menu with a colleague of mine. It was divine. Little details impress me. fresh flowers brought to the table as we sat and tiny delicious chocolate biscotti with my latte.
If you haven't been to Zin, go.
I will never go to this restaurant again. There were 12 of us there for dinner but it took 1.5hrs after we ordered to get our food. The service was OK but the food was very disappointing. For the average price of $23, the food we got was tasteless and in minute portions.
The seared halibut my bf ordered was small (size of my computer mouse) and thin (thick as my finger). It tasted OK but was nothing special. Definitely not worth the $25 it cost.
The curry salmon I ordered was weak tasting. It was like watered down curry and chunks of plainly steamed salmon.
Everyone else at the table ordered something different and had pretty much the same reaction we did.
Save your money and DO NOT go to this restaurant. Overall it was horrible.
