Zawa offers a large variety of sumptuous dishes from around the world. Everything is made fresh to order by our renowned kitchen staff.
I just had my first experience at this restaurant today and it was awful. When I first walked in I was standing like an idiot at the front for at least 4 minutes before the "waitress" actually came to greet me and she seemed shocked that someone actually came in. I chose a place to sit once I ordered and she didnt even offer if I wanted anything to drink, so after about 10 minutes of waiting I asked her for a drink and then it took her another 5 minutes just to bring me a water, while I was waiting for it all I could hear was her yapping to her co-worker in the background about her personal life. The food finally came and it was unappetizing to say the least! The service is absolutely terrible, they dont ask if your doing okay and need anything ....they dont offer you zip.. as a matter of fact they dont even acknowledge your there at all! Way too expensive for what they have to offer. Dont waste your time. Seriously.
I was drawn to this place by the large selection of omlettes. I was very happy with what i found. The food was great, service was solid (not too much, not too little) and the ambiance was relaxed. It wasn't overly busy for a Sunday brunch service (10:00am) but if more people knew about it, I bet it would be busier. Beats most other places I have been too while costing much less. Try it!
My first impression of Zawa was that it fit in with the many comfortable, relaxed restaurants on the drive. My memories would have remained positive, but the service... I know I'm going to sound whiny and selfish, but I don't recall ever having more inattentive service.
The food was just fine, and to begin with everything was great. Our initial orders were received in fine form, but once the live music began (admittedly, we were there for the live music, not the food or service), we became completely invisible. After nearly an hour (!) of sitting without our server even walking past, we approached the bar to order some more drinks. We were abruptly told "I'm not your server" and denied any drinks. So we wait. I finally get the chance to flag down our waitress, and order a drink for my girlfriend and myself. She quickly turned to leave, without asking anyone else at the table (6 of us) if they would like anything. A friend across the table promptly called her back, and ordered drinks for three others; the remaining fellow with us (who I didn't know well) wasn't even acknowledged. He gladly would have ordered another drink, but couldn't be bothered to fight for it. I would have ordered at least a couple of more drinks, but barely had the opportunity.
Not one glass was removed from our table the entire time we were there; and after another hour we had to go up to the till to pay our bills (when they finally arrived, they sat on the table with credit cards / cash at the ready for about 20 minutes.). Again, the lady at the till couldn't help us; we were met with "your server will help you shortly". After a minute or so, we were helped, and couldn't leave fast enough.
The food was tasty with great presentation, although the draft beer was flat and a bit of a letdown. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed; unfortunately that's not what I'll remember Zawa for. I can't say I won't return (the entertainment was great), but I will at least refuse to be 'served' by the same server.
I went there cause the bf said the burgers were good.
Was he ever right!!!
I had the Deluxe burger. The fries are tasty too. Try it with gravy.
Or you know.... try some of the other yummy sounding dishes.
Putting the lasagne on the to do list.
Music was decent. Staff was nice. Ceasar was so so but who cares.
ok so the other reviews were for breakfast... i might try it out because I live nearby... and live music nights,.. again, maybe.
I was there for lunch there was no music to distract me. I ordered a quesadilla, not really that difficult, the taste was good, except for the fact that there was literally the least cheese I've ever seen on anything on that thing. maybe, MAYBE, an 1/8th of a cup on the whole thing. As far as I'm concerned the cheese makes the quesadilla, the cheese makes anything, this was beyond pathetic. They also served us 'no name' diet Coke, although the server did bring us cans of Diet Coke when we said they tasted a little funny. I also had the homemade chili something soup which was delicious. My friend had a ceasar salad, not too difficult, but it was apparently drowning in flavourless dressing and the lettuce was a little wilty.
Overall very unimpressed with the food, I'll get back to you about breakfast... i would like to support this local business in my neighbourhood, but as of now I can see why it's always empty.
This place has been around for awhile but never seems busy. It is on the quieter end of commercial drive.
The burgers/un-authentic poutine are really good the rest of the menu is hit or miss.
It seems they are doing renovations slowly. Dog-friendly. Great place for a sunny Sunday afternoon beer.
