Since 1990, Zaccary's Pizza has been serving pizza made using only high quality ingredients, toppings, and their famous, incredibly light crust. Available for eat in, take out or delivery. Cash only.
I went to order two pizza's from Zaccary's on new year's eve. Web site looked good, especially for my wife who is vegetarian and tries to avoid dairy (I had something a little more conventional).
Anyways, they were open, and took my order. Prices were a little high, but not unexpected for a place that obviously thinks highly of their food. 8pm.
Anyways, at 8:35 I get there to a "closed" sign on the door. No problem, the door was still open, I just thought it was strange they didn't mention that. Then I get inside and notice the CASH ONLY sign...... I think "you got to be kidding me, this is a Pizza place in 2011!" I think it's rude that they didn't mention that.
Anyways, I go get the cash, come back another 10-15 minutes later.....I think the pizza oven was off at this point (they were closed, why would in be on?), so my order was getting colder every minute. I ask the guy why no debit/credit.....says the owner is "old fashioned", and "there is usually a bank machine across the street".
Yeah. Right. Website, twitter account, rss feed, all very old fashioned! Pay an extra $2 at a rip-off cash machine.
I reply that even if the pizza was REALLY good, I would not be likely to come back with such a disregard for customers. (I own a business, I don't like paying all the credit card fees either, but I KNOW my customers would be ticked if I didn't offer it, and this is a PIZZA PLACE!)
Anyways, for the food itself. The pizza website says "heavenly, light crust pizza". Not really, kinda greasy like it was fried. It would have been better warm, less soggy etc. At it's best, I think it would have been slightly less than the median Vancouver Pizza. I wouldn't go back even if they did have the debit, but everyone has their own tastes, I'm sure some people like if just fine......but the light crust claim is still strange.
A similar crust, less greasy, in whole wheat options, is available at Martini's, and they take debit/credit and are about the same price.
The best Pizza ever.
Perfect crust, thin and buttery but far far from greasy.
Great topping options for all tastes, both Veg choices are great, anything with chicken is a nice change, anchovies were always a no go for me but no longer, I get it every time.
The Guy that owns and runs the place is great, always a friendly chat and you can just kick back and wait for your pie.
Yes, the delivery can be slow, go pick it up! If you want great pizza, sometimes you have to put some effort into it. He is my go to pizza man and will continue to be for a long time to come.
The reviews so far aren't that great, but my boyfriend and I really enjoyed the place. We stopped in to order a pizza for take out, and it was ready in 20 minutes. The man there is very sweet, and so friendly. He runs the shop all by himself, so yea, it might be hard keeping up with the orders. The pizza is delicious, fresh and piled heavy with toppings. It's a nice little business with a homey feel to it.
My wife introduced me to Zaccary's 7 years ago. At that time she had been buying pizzas from there for over 10 years. The pies are sublime. Once you have a favourite it is so hard to try something different. The Number 5 or Zaccary's Special is in our house about once a week. I love converting friends to Zaccary's - friends who order from fast food / junk food pizza places (you know the ones). They never go back. Yes Z's is a one man show, so as others have said you have to understand that. Find your nights. If there is a hockey game on choose another night or delivery can be quite long - or go pick it up yourself! If they tell you an hour, it's going to be an hour. If you want it faster then go elsewhere. But don't - because it is worth the wait. The delivery guys are great, I think, because they are delivering the best pizza in the city, and they love it too. We love you Zaccary's!!
This is a hidden JEM - takeout / delivery only.
The pizza is outstanding. Very fresh, thin crust and great options.
A healthy alternative to the heavy, thick crust greasy pizza chains.
Cash only - open daily 5pm.
This was a real disappointment. Delivered pizza was promised in 15 min and arrived after 1.5 hours. Even then, they handed over the wrong pizza. We called and they promised to send the correct pizza in half an hour. After one hour, the pizza finally arrived - barely warm. The pizza itself was soggy and tasted of feta and salt only. We ended up with two soggy cold pizzas for the price of one. Gross.
