So-so Japanese Fix

Yume is located close to a long-time favorite sushi joint which unfortunately closes much too early. Therefore, my friends and I would venture into Yume for it's nearby location and decent eats.

However, some items on the menu are better than others. I found the king crab roll to be fairly good, but the bentos to be just ok - with really nothing differentiating them from anywhere else (asian food courts included). Spicy tuna sushi was weak (and lazy - basically it's tuna sushi with a dot of hot sauce on top - presentation wise, pretty but doesn't cut it taste wise).

The last time we were there, the kitchen ran out of miso soup. We finished our meals and it still wasn't ready. After waiting another 10 minutes, we gave up and asked for the bill. It would have been nice for the restaurant to apologize or discount the bill since the soup was actually included in the meals we purchased, but unfortunately this didn't happen. Small issue, but to me, attention to these details is what sets restaurants apart.

I would say value is either solid or mediocre, depending on what's ordered (since food was either hit or miss). As for drinks, the pitchers of Sapporo for 13 bucks is definitely a steal, but on the other hand, I would never pay again for the watered down mouthwash that is their house sake even though it looked like an impossible bargain for only 6 dollars.

me and my buddies went to yume last saturday, looking for good sushi.
it was very convinient to get to, just 20 seconds walk from granville skytrain station.
however, we were all very disappointed by their offerings.
beef yaki udon was salty and awful, and tuna sashimi tasted like they were pre-made long time ago.
even the miso soup was blend and tasted awful..
rolls (california roll, spicy tuna roll, and dynamite roll) were enjoyable but overall we were very disappointed and we are definately not going back to this place.
price was just average-ish (compared to other downtown sushi places) but we felt it's definately not worth the money.

I went to Yume spontaneously one night after work craving sushi. I do not have a lot of sushi or japanese cuisine expertise, but for my standards the food was outstanding. The agadashi tofu was delicious and they're drinks were pretty good too. The service was lacking because they seemed to be understaffed. I had to wait more than once to ask for extra napkins or for another green tea. The value was solid because i really enjoyed the food and the portions were appropriate. It was also rather busy so with the music the ambiance was pleasant.
