I'm not sure why some people go into the restaurant business? Some people just don't have the talent. Here's a case in point. A sushi restaurant with all the standad menu items but absolutely lacking care and inspiration in their preparation. The California Combo I had was insipid with the fish just this side of off. The so called Hawaiin Beef Roll was dried up old teriyaki beef with a piece of pineapple. Give me a break. The only thing that redeeems this place in my mind is the very friendly wait service I had and the outstanding view of the intersection where you can watch the crazies do their 4 corner square dance. Don't bother.
Went to this place for lunch today to meet some friends. Walked in and was seated right away in a booth. Interior was a nice and different as it used to be a italian retaurant and then a coffee type place. Menu had a very good selection of the standard japanese fare. We ordered some hamachi sahimi, cali rolls, cones, tempura, teri dons and soft shell crab. Overall, the food was good especially I liked the soft shell crab. Mostly in other places, it is small and dry but here this crab was bigger and very juicy. I was pleasantly surprised at the overall quality of this place. Will return again sometime. Recommeded.
The place looked nice and spacious when I walked in with my friend, and it seemed like a great spot for lunch. I ordered the salmon yakisoba and the takoyaki special, and my friend ordered a sushi combo. The service was awful as I had to ask for a fork three times and it never came. The yakisoba was a half order and it came in a little casserole dish. There was barely any cooked salmon on it, perhaps about three small pieces, the noodles were dry and there were way too many onions. The takoyaki was alright but my friend's assortment of nigiri sushi didn't look too fresh. He was being modest, but I could tell that his meal wasn't very good as he didn't finish it all. In the end, when the bill came, the server entered the incorrect amount into the pin pad. I didn't notice until I left the restaurant and couldn't be bothered to go back and haggle for a dollar. I'm definitely not going back there again.
Two of us stopped in here for dinner one night. Did not expect too much since the general ambiance was casual, decor was ok, and the place was almost empty. HOWEVER, the food was suprisingly good. Had Spicy tuna como (Very tasty), ika(squid) tempura (Very tasty, not too chewy), chicken karage (decent) and some very excellent salmon sashimi (wild sockeye). Presentation was lacking. And the service wasn't that great. Had to ask for another napkin and small side dish since the table was only set for one. Also had to ask for more tea. Waiter seemed to ignore us once the food was served.
Would come back again for a causal bite out. Food was pretty resonably priced. The Spicy Tuna combo was about 9 bucks but it would enough for one person (girl) or with a 4 dollar appitezer enough for a guy for dinner.
Yume isn't by far the best sushi in town, but I find myself returning for more. Decent prices, unagi that isn't chewy and some tasty spinach gomae all contribute to some great tasting food.
Also wanted to mention that their sushi rolls are cut into nice and bite-sized pieces...not a big fan of huge pieces that are tough to eat and chew.
