York makes hot & fresh tasty pizza, pasta and more for take out or delivery.
Used to get delivery from this place all the time, and recall the pizza to be memorably good. It was a family favourite with us. Pizzas here had a nice crust, and very fresh and generous toppings. It was definitely Not one of those flat slabs of pizzas with the cheese hardened into one flat sheet and the toppings another flat sheet under it. The toppings here were loaded, fresh, and the cheese nicely melted between and over the toppings.
Having forgone pizzas for a long while, finally gave in to cravings and decided to hunt down thuds pizza joint and pay them a visit in person instead of getting delivery for the first time. Found this little place to be more rundown and deserted-looking than I expected. They also had a few individual slices of very "blah"-looking pizzas sitting in the counter display. My Boyfriend's first visit there, he did not look impressed at all, in spite of my previous claims that this place was good, but since we were already there, we gave it a go.
We ordered a medium "gourmet" pizza with one of the many preset combos of 5 toppings (ask to see a full menu or one of their takeout flyers, their chalkboard menu is far less descriptive of your options). It had been awhile, so forgot how I used to order. Our medium cost $20. Seemed a bit pricey...then we figured out that we could have just ordered a gourmet medium with 3 toppings (I think it was around $10/$11) and added 2 extra toppings for 2$ each...still 5 toppings but much cheaper than ordering one of the preset ones, plus you get to pick exactly what goes into your combo.
Anyways, when we got our pizza, it was just as good as I remembered. Could use more sauce, but the slices were just as fresh and loaded with toppings as before.
So two things: don't be deceived by the blah-looking individual slices sitting out. Order a whole pie and you'll get a much better pizza. And go for custom toppings, it's actually cheaper.
Also of note, I find their pizzas to be more healthy in that it's not so greasy as others. I think this is due to the nice balance of meat, veggies and cheese. they're on the side of more meat and veggies, and just enough cheese. Don't get me wrong, I'm a cheese lover, but it somehow felt good on the less grease factor and more other good things like lean beef, mushrooms, tomato and onions, and I still got plenty enough cheese to satisfy. now if they could make one with whole wheat crust...
I was passing by on a cold and rainy night and I say the sign and felt the hunger pangs and I stopped in for a nice warming lasagna. The special was 6 bucks plus tip for the sob story the young women gave me about the boss and her boyfriend. I guess the boss should pay the bills first.
As she was closing a the time every thing was put away so she pulled it out and assembled a full sized lasagna for the sale price. It took some time but it was just worth it. It was a meat base lasagna that lacked enough sauce to make it moist and not just a bland dry hamburger tasting lasagna.
Judging by the stories that I was told there are many student customers that come by for a slice of two. So the pizza one would think is better than the lasagna. I took the rest of the lasagna home and added sauce and it was as good as any where else. It would seem as if business is down a bit and they are cutting back on quality and quantity. But you do get 6 chewy bread sticks with every purchases. Oh! And the place looks like a dump.
York Fresh Pizza is good but quite expensive. It was a while when I last ate there but when I ordered two pizzas I thought I had to go and pawn my car to get them. Like to try them again but I'm a bit apprehensive. Still a very good pizza.
