We found this place quite by accident yet we only live 2 minutes away from it. The owner says they have been there for 2 years now. Their lunch specials are an amazing value at $5.25 and includes a spring roll or soup! The soups altho a sideline to the entree has never let us down. The food is quickly prepared and not too salty as is the case in too many Chinese food establishments. We have tried their dinner menu as well and the house special chow mein is terrific! Since we "discovered" it we have been back 4 times in 2 weeks and I'm sure we will be back again.
Yan Ming is a decent mostly take-out Chinese place near UBC (although apparently they do have a few tables). When I lived on campus it was my favorite Place to call and get dinner delivered. What first might attract you to Yan Ming is that it is cheap. Compared to others like it is is cheaper and free delivery is nice but what will surprise you is the food. The food is not outstanding nor is it strictly authentic Chinese food but it is quite good for a take-out/delivery place. Infact after sampling most of the other take-out/delivery places that would deliver to UBC it has the best food quality and the best taste. This isn't award winning Chinese food but it is award worthy Chinese take-out. After all it is what it is but its the best of what it is. Delivery service is good from Yan Ming. It is always the same delivery man and they are generally accurate with estimated delivery times and sometimes it takes less time. Food always comes hot and fresh. (Poor rating given on ambiance because dinehere.ca lacks the option to put not applicable.)
