Yamato is a hole-in-the-wall sushi bar at the edge of Yaletown.
Although I am a dedicated Sushiyama paron, Yamato is for sure a very close second, and always my first choice when looking for great sushi downtown. A little on the tiny side, this place is best suited for take-out, unless you don't mind a dozen hungry people watching you eat while they wait for their food. Food is always fresh, delicious and served quickly but never sloppy. Service is excellent, friendly and always very happy to suggest something new or interesting. The combo boxes are a great deal and the philidelphia-style roll is amazing.
Great little sushi bar with decent food, medium-sized portions and very friendly service by owners--Jennifer and Newman. A wonderful place or a cheap meal that comes with tea, miso soup and a welcoming smile. Always our first choice in Davietown.
I've been to Yamato a couple of times now (both for take-out and dine in) and I really like it.
The food tastes really fresh & the sushi (particularly yam tempura roll) is still warm. They have awesome deals like their sushi combos for $5.50, but I also like their special rolls.
The place itself is very small and just fine for a quick meal if you dont want to do dishes at home.
I have really tried many of these kinds of restaurants in Vancouver and Yamato is my favourite. (And no worries I dont work there lol)
