The Wolf and Hound is one of the few remaining 'neighbourhood watering holes' in Kitsilano. At almost any time of the day or night you can expect to see the usual suspects keeping the shine on the bar with the sleeves of their coats. It's a strange mix sometimes of this old guard, rowdy university students, young professionals, and families, but that's what makes good traditional pubs good-they're a meeting place and a mix of all kinds. The ambience is pretty good in that way- always someone to talk to over a beer, including the servers and bartenders, who are friendly.
Some decent beer on tap-- the Storm Black Plague and Highland Scottish Cream Ale being highlights, as well as the essential Irish imports. It would be nice to see fewer Russell taps and more attention to good beer- smaller local brews, rotating features, and actually decent tasting beer would be handy. (Many a regular cried foul when they removed the R&B IPA)
There's always beer on special for 12.95 a pitcher though, which is one of the cheaper beer specials I've seen around town (no-- 19.95 for a pitcher of granville island does not count as a special)
Live music a few nights a week-- best is the celtic sessions on Fridays, and the irish guy that plays thursdays.
The food is pretty decent, especially for pub food-- there are the usual onion rings, burgers, fish and chips etc- but there are also some good appies that don't feel like they're clogging your arteries-- bruschetta is yummy and the spinach salad. Plus classics like bangers and mash and a real irish breakfast (with real irish bacon!).
Service is always good-- it gets pretty busy on weekend nights but my servers have always been friendly and personable- even with large groups. I went there once with a huge group and the server learned everyone's name by the end of the night and gave us separate bills! Sunday brunch is good- not too busy but good eggs benny and the two girls who worked brunch all through the summer were great- really friendly and lots of fun, great service.
Just moved away from kits but hope to return when I can for a pint! Get more local brews on tap!

If you've been to this place anytime in the last year and prior to that, you probably know this place is under knew management. The atmosphere has shifted somewhat from a place where you bring kids and some guy plays the fiddle on a Sunday morning over a full Irish breakfast to a slighty schizophrenic little place that isn't sure if it wants to maintain what made it great or become a run-of-the-mill sports bar. I'm still giving it high ratings, because the food and service are still solid, but if you wanted a place that felt like an authentic Irish pub and got some mildly impressive decor and a Guinness, you'd probably be disappointed.

The menu itself is notable for its fries, poutine and onion rings, which have all maintained their standards. Everything else is slightly unremarkable, e.g. the fish and chips are very good (I mentioned the latter before), but they're not the best I've ever had. As a whole, it still comes together quite nicely, and is still a cut above pretty much every other pub in the area.

I went here wanting some good traditional pub fare

We ordered the cod and chips and the Irish stew. The fish and chips were fine, but do yourself a favour and go elsewhere for fish and chips that are much cheaper and just as good.

The Irish stew was uninspired and undercooked, you could make a much better one at home.

I was really disappointed and, for 25$ each for a mediocre meal and a beer, this place sucks.

Hubby and I took daughter and son-in-law for a pre-theatre drink and dinner. We were there at 6:00 on a Saturday evening, and had our choice of places to sit.

Appealingly set-up, smaller side areas to carve up the space nicely. Service was great. Prompt and pleasant. They have Russell beers on tap - yay Russell - and we had Celtic Ale.

The food was....um, OK. We ordered burgers and steak sandwiches, with a bucket of onion rings as an extra. Caesar salad was bland and limp, fries were limp, onion rings greasy. Perhaps the oil wasn't hot enough...? Steaks and burgers were great, and the steaks were done exactly to our specifications.

No desserts, no time. Signs all over the place say they have live music. Guess we were there too early, but we had to head out for the theatre.

Had dinner there last night the appys were ok had some dry ribs not bad large buckets of fries and onion rings were kinda neat. they go great with the good beer selection. For the main i had bangers and mash....not so good ....only 2 sausages mash lacked flavor my carrots were under cooked would go back for the great beer selection but not for dinner
