White Spot located in Oakridge Mall. With over 60 locations in British Columbia and Alberta, White Spot has been serving unique, freshly prepared dishes in a contemporary, casual atmosphere for over 75 years.
My cousin from out of town and I had earlier went to Stanley Park, and were having a hard time deciding where to go for lunch. I thought since he is from the States, we can go to a chain that they don't have down there.....so White Spot it was.
We were seated within 5 minutes of arriving, the place look nice and clean and has a comfortable ambiance. Our waiter came by and took our orders. We decided to get the dry ribs with sweet thai chili sauce to share, and for lunch I had a double double with fries (no relish on the triple O sauce and no tomato), my cousin had a clam chowder and also a legendary burger (with everything on it) for beverage he had a coke and I just stuck to water
our ribs came out with our thai sauce....nice and tender as well as crispy....totally delicious (a must try) our burgers then came out.....mmmmmmm.. It was really delicious...I don't know their recipe, but it was just mouth watering good....and can't go wrong with the fries and that triple o sauce.
Service I hate to admit was below of what I would expect, but not bad.
Anyhow, we left happy and will definetly return
I rarely visit this place nowadays as breakfast and lunch time meals are more often than not an omission by me.
I've always found the food to be consistent. Excellent breakfast menu. Not too overwhelming in terms of selection, just the basics, and that's all you need. I frequently order the Spot Traditional or Nat's Hearty Breakfast. The Egg's Benny isn't bad either. Really hits the spot.
Service again is an afterthought here. It's satisfactory, but it wouldn't hurt if they put on a smile or even cared to check up on you during your meal.
It's located in Oakridge Mall. Many elderly folks frequent this location, which makes for a feel as if I was eating with my family and out of town relatives at home on a late Sunday morning during the winter holidays. Only difference here is that there isn't the screaming and yelling.
Food: had the Chicken Veronica salad. Salad came without any chicken. Mentioned to server who fixed this by giving me a seperate plate with what I can only call "shavings" of dried, flavourless chicken. Salad veggies did not taste fresh. Cashews had funny taste.
Service: on the slow side.
Value: didn't feel the salad was worth that much.
Ambiance: place feels crowded, kind of run-down.
Would not come back to this particular White Spot.
This has been "My White Spot" for many years. The staff here have always been friendly and warm - never an ounce of attitude served from my past experiences here. Hmmm...I can't think of any better place for a fix of a cafeteria-style turkey dinner .. or big n chunky endless fries and creamy coleslaw that goes so well with those "Spot" burgers.
My aunt who is ill asked me to pick up a cheese burger and fries. I ordered from a very friendly yet extremely young hostess at the front entrance. After twenty minutes I asked How Long? She went to check, returned and asked me what I would like as they forgot to order my meal. After a further twenty five minutes, I asked to talk to the manager. I explained that forty five minutes is far to long for a burger and fries. She agreed and returned my money. She was sincerely apologetic and hardled the situation quickly. Now for the kicker, I get the meal to my aunt and set up her plate and cutlery etc. I just got home and she phones to tell that it was the worst burger she has ever eaten. No dressing on the bun, burnt on one side, no cheese even though I was charged for it. Maybe they should spend less time making cheesy commercials and spend some time training their staff!. Red seal Chefs and all that other crap about fresh organic products, nice story.
Went here for a proper sit-down meal, as it is the only restaurant in the Oakridge Mall. The place was a little bit understaffed when we arrived, with the restaurant rather empty, but the hostess taking forever to seat a small line of people. Our waitress though, was great. Attentive, friendly, and not intrusive. Did have to wait a touch longer for menus and getting the bill, but that's alright.
Maybe it's because it was early and there weren't many people, but I can't remember the last time I had such a good meal at a White Spot. I had the mushroom burger, which had loads of mushrooms rather than a small smattering of paper thin slices, and the fries with coleslaw. The fries are usually limp, soggy and lukewarm - these were freshly made and crisp. They also don't salt them, which I prefer, as I got a side of gravy for dipping. My dining mate had the traditional breakfast with sausage. The new 'smashbrowns' that they serve are DELICIOUS. They're 2 whole nugget potatoes pressed down into flat pucks, with beautiful roasted skins and pillowy soft interiors. They aren't very salty, but a dash from the shaker will fix that if you need it. The only disappointment were the scrambled eggs, which were rubbery and, oddly, really salty. Go for fried or poached eggs instead.
Overall, I enjoyed my meal greatly, and would definitely return for the smashbrowns alone!
Went there for dinner tonite with the family.
We were seated quickly and our orders we taken quickly.
That is where the service ended ... we waited over 45 minutes for our 2 Legendary burgers and a Grilled Cheese Pirate pack. The drinks came quick tho.
The burgers were very lousy, seems like they gave us 2 patties that had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours ... dry and hard. The fries were the same ... very stale and chewy ... not what I would expect from White Spot. The kids grilled Cheese Pirate pack was not good also. Grilled to long, therefore the crust was burnt and crunchie.
The kitchen staff must have been having a bad day. The wait staff was okay ... but what could they do? The kitchen was producing food so slow and lousy.
Make me not want to go back .. will try other White Spots next time.
I remember eating here as a kid. Last time I went it was a year ago. Food is below average at this location, the service is slow. I usually go to the one on marine drive near knight bridge and the one downtown near vpl is alright.
The side salad is ridiculous (overpriced and lack of dressing here). $5 for a puny dish. You should just order an entree.
The server we had last time I went (just a friend and I) was aloof, and just not what I expect from a white spot franchise.
What makes me shake my head every time I eat at white spot is how they ask if we'd like drinks/sleeve...surely at the time I looked like 16, even if one of us did pull off looking 19+ they never cared to check for i.d. or was overly casual. it was even around morning/brunch time for god's sake.....(haha matter)
So it was pretty late and my boyfriend and I were starved, so we rushed to the closest whitespot for a bite ot eat. It was close to closing (about an hour) so I called ahead to see if we could still get seated or if they were trying to close. The hostess on the phone said "O it's no problem, our closing time is actually when we take our last table". We get there and have to pratically walk in and seat ourselves, when a sweatplant clad server throws some menus at us and walks away. She takes our orders, and the food arrives quickly, but my order was wrong. She never came back to check on us so I just had to eat it. We could see her leaning over the edge of the waitress station watching us eat, while her manager (?) barked liquor service procedure at her coworkers, and bitched at the kitchen staff about the abundance of rotten food in storage. Yummy. The food was fine, but as I was finishing it (had the last onion ring in my hand) the waitiress took our plates. No "are you finished" or anything. I wanted another coffee, but she yelled arcoss the dining room that we were done and that her coworker should throw the coffee out. The evening ended by the manager ushering us out the BACK DOOR because he had already locked the place up. I looked at my watch, feeling bad that I had kept them so late. They close at 10pm and it was 10:02. Won't be back, and I think we tipped a whole 2 cents just to insult them.
Food has usually been passable at other locations so we hit this place up out of desperation while stuck at Oakridge. I'm usually fairly patient but this experience went on for a bit...so we wait 30 minutes for a table...we're seated, we sit for about 10 minutes until giving our orders, 20 minutes later, water arrives without any explanation or apology as to why we've had to sit for half an hour without so much as a drop of water to drink. We continue to wait for the food we ordered, at least another 25-30 minutes have passed without the waiter dropping in ONCE with water refills or at least an explanation...so we decide to leave without a word, never had to do this but the service here was absolutely miserable, I suspect it's got a high staff turnover since the servers probably don't care much for the all the stingy-tippers in the neighborhood...they seemed bitter and I could see them laughing back in the kitchen as they looked out at all the irate customers in the dining area. Had a hot dog and poutine at the food court and it wasn't half bad!
Really not worth waiting in their idiotic waiting area for half an hour while kids and batty seniors set the tone for what will inevitably be nightmarish waste of your precious time. This type of pre-fab crap food should be served quickly as it could be made by monkeys, shut it down already...
the waitstaff at this whitespot are very unfriendly and rude. their food is horrific and when i go here (because i work nearby) they always make my food wrong or its cold or its watery.
i went once with my friend and she had GLASS in her salad. my salad was supposed to have "strips of tenderloin" and it had burnt sticks that looked like they had once been meat.
i hope they shut this place down because sitting just waiting for your food (which takes more than half an hour most of the time) makes you realize how dirty this place actually is. food handling is terrible and so is their cleanliness.
I once stupidly thought that ordering a shrimp tempura noodle bowl would be a good choice at a joint more know for its burgers and shakes. DO NOT order foods that are from anywhere in Asia. I ordered shrimp tempura, once again a very daft move, and was riddled with horrid food poisoning which eventually led my puking into False Creek. The only reason I'm giving the food a "decent" is because their burgers are alright, no where close to the Burgers at Modern Burger, Veras or Crave.
I mainly come here for their Veggie Burger and Onion Rings and feel satisfied every time i leave a white spot restaurant
The last time I dined here was just this last Friday-two days ago, and the food was great as usual. My boyfriend and I went for dinner and he had the Spicy Crispy Chicken Sandwich with fries and coleslaw and I had the Chargrilled Spot Veggie Burger without the fries or coleslaw. The Veggie Burger was excellent as usual. White Spot has the best Veggie Burger in the city, (the Oakridge location and the Georgia Street location make the best of them). My boyfriend however didn't like his Chicken Sandwich so much.
The price is not bad either especially for what you get. Our dinner their came to about $20 including the tip. The regular fries that come with the burgers are endless but their regular fries aren't that good. Their Yam Fries and Onion Rings are wayyy better.
The service was good, nothing special but it was pretty busy that day.
And I would always come back for the good food.
I have been to white spot restaurants at different locations in greater Vancouver. I did not expect much from these restaurants but I do expect decent food and clean environment. I found this one in Oakridge mall to be quite disappointing. The floor was dirty. The water glasses were dirty and we had to ask for the clean ones. The server was friendly but the portions were smaller than the ones from other location. We knew this because two of us ordered the same items that we had from the other location. Overall, we did not really enjoy the experience there. May be there is a management issues with this place since menu is the same for all white spot locations in greater Vancouver area and also a lot cleaner.
Great food and incredible food. Also in a great location. I highly recommended this location. They are super nice and will help you in any way they can. I have made this my lunch place for a long time now just because how great it is. Plus with it being in the mall, right after you can walk around the mall and have a great time. Its also a great place for a family dinner. This is the #1 lunch restaurant in Vancouver
Hubby and I have been here four times to pick up take-out. Each and every time, they have screwed up our order, and we didn't see it until we got home. We used the online ordering system, and it emails you a confirmation message with your order, so I know that we didn't accidentally forget the stuff ourselves.
Each and every time, we've had to go back and get our "fixed" order. The first time (which ended up being the worst, ironically), we called ahead, said it was messed up, and we were told (by the manager, no less!) to bring it back, and she would put a rush on the food right away. Well, we got there, and we were still waiting for a good 15-20 minutes before we were even acknowledged or got our fixed order. We got a free piece of their cake as an apology, but honestly, is that really worth it? 10 minute drive each way, total of 2 round trips just to get what we paid for, as well as having to wait for 20 minutes each time? Sorry, but a piece of cake that you get shipped in frozen for pennies on the dollar is a bit of an insult.
Food and value would have been rated much higher if this hadn't happened so many times. However, service is going to stay a solid 1 for me, as the manager's attitude when we complained was way over the top. She basically said we were being difficult and swearing when we were doing nothing of the sort.
If you want to eat at a White Spot in the area, go to the marine drive location. The servers are more polite, and they know how to read an order slip.
