The Wallflower is a relaxed neighbourhood place boasting options for omnivores, vegans, vegetarians and gluten-freeaters - truly something for everyone.
I went there for Sunday lunch with some friends. When we entered, we weren't sure whether or not we were to seat ourselves. We saw a server look at us from across the room, but she didn't acknowledge us, was very busy putting together a tea. After quite a few uncomfortable minutes, standing like dorks in the doorway, she came to us with menus and told us to sit wherever we wanted. We were offered a brunch menu and a regular menu. Prices seemed good. I had heard that the fries were the frozen bag kind, so I ordered a caesar salad with my clubhouse. It was okay, but the caesar tasted like bottled dressing. My friend's sliders were charred and hard. My other friend had the frozen bagged fries with her wrap. I liked the music playing - old REM, less common Fleetwood Mac, good David Bowie - but the sound system was dreadful. Love the Beatles, but I wanted to throw a shoe at the speakers - grating on the nerves! Anyway, I like what they did with the Aurora space. I don't know how you can make a room look bigger by adding so many seats, but they did it! They've definitely put their stamp on the space. I wish them luck, but they should try their hand at more homemade ingredients.
I kept hearing about how great the food is at Wallflower, so I finally decided to go. Have to say it’s over priced and just average. I didn’t find the food worth raving about.
I had the turkey club sandwich. It was made with real turkey, nice thick whole grain bread, came with fries. Again, average. If you happen to be walking by Wallflower and you’re hungry, it’s fine. I wouldn’t make a special trip to eat there.
I came here with my friend last night, not really knowing what to expect. Everything from the menu sounded delightful, but I finally decided on the meatloaf wellington, a dish I doubt I can find anywhere else in Vancouver. I loved it! The puff pastry was just right with the meatloaf, bacon and mushrooms. My friend ordered the chili, which was so big, you could practically swim in it! Service was attentive and friendly as well. I'll definitely be back!
We came once before and ended up leaving very impressed as it was close to midnight and they still had full food service and were very attentive. So when the groupon came out I just had to buy it! Or so I thought.
There was seriously ONE GIRL WORKING for about 12 tables and she was the bartender, hostess, waitress. wtf? Who is the manager of this place? You run a promotion and have one person working? There was a fly in our water (we also got drinks but water to start) and it took her 10 minutes to get a new one. Seriously what the!! The food that arrived was good.. we had the gluten free pizza which was awesome because we both have a slight gluten intolerance.
Finally some other dude showed up and things got better, we ordered a desert which was brought to us right away and such... I would go for the food but don't go if you want speedy service.
