You know what? This place is surprisingly good.. no, it's GREAT! It's a small, dark hole in the wall, but it doesn't pretend to be anything but that!
They do the typical breakfast food (eggs, bacon, sausage, omelets, etc), but they also do sandwiches and chinese food to boot. Breakfast food wise, this place is definitely on par with WhiteSpot and the chains, but at less than half the price. Chinese food is the typical HK cafe style, but prepared with a little more TLC.
This place is owned by the asian woman server and I believe her husband who cooks in the kitchen. The lady is a joy and makes a genuine effort to connect with her customers - many whom are regulars. Been to this place twice, so I'm definitely not in the regular's club yet, but from what I saw, in between serving tables the lady would be having pretty lively small talk moments with the regulars at the front. It's just a nice genuine touch of good service that's definitely missing from the chain types and a place like Sophie's in Kits.
Value-wise, it's great! Portions are big - can't compare to Bon's off Broadway because I've never been - but this place offers satisfying greasy spoon food at great prices. Traffic wise, you probably don't have to wait as both times we got seats no problem.
This place is great if you want a quick bite for very cheap. Family owned, so you know you will get family service. This place is like "cheers" a place where evryone knows your name. When I eat here, I noticed that there are the same people here everyday having breakfast.
The lunch special is excellent. A burger with fries for 5 bucks is better than the McDonald junk.
This place is my fiance's and my favourite place for breakfast. It's in our neighbourhood, and the breakfasts are very good, with great service. After the 2nd time, we are now recognized, and the server can guess what we will be ordering. There are always regulars in the restaurant and each patron has their favourites. While ours is their breakfasts, others like ordering their Chinese food, or sandwiches.
This place feels like home, a very quaint Ma and Pa diner. Definitely worth going back again and again.
