not much more to add to that, we'd rank veras at just a bit better than mcdonalds, but not by much.
such a simple thing to put together, bun, meat, salad and some cheese and it was just a big soppy dripping mess.
gross... sorry vera. get some quality control
Recently visited on St.Paddys Day. Service started off ok until I received my burger on a "refrigerator" cold bun. This bun had never seen a toaster oven or any other warming device and was cold to the touch. When I presented this to the server they agreed and promised me another. After 5 minutes waiting I noticed an open faced burger sitting on top of a toaster oven (in hindsight I suspect they moved the burger etc. over from the first burger) for over a minute and thought to myself, no ... that can't be mine; but lo & behold I see them take it from there, wrap it up and present it to me as my new burger. And it was as cold as the first one.
Two strikes and you're out in my book so we promptly left (still hungry). I got the name of a Manager and phoned him and let him know about the pathetic food and service and he promised to get back to me. So far his response is on a par with the other experiences I had there; piss-poor!
I had previously gone there every few weeks with my kids but we will definitely not be going back there any time soon!
Food: Ordered the lamb burger and the sweet potato fries. The lamb burger was delicious! Nice, big, juicy with 'the works'. I liked the sweet potato fries even more. Good portions
Service: Very friendly server. I know all the burgers are 'made to order', but I was the only other customer at that time and it took over 10 minutes. I can't imagine how long the wait must be during lunchtime!
Value: I had the $10 off birthday coupon, so I ended up only paying $2.60 for my meal. Even without the coupon, I think the prices are ALRIGHT considering that food in that general location is pretty pricey.
Ambiance: Decent, no frills, clean.
Will be back, just for the sweet potato fries though.
Okay burgers, taste wise, but by the time you are done ordering your basic burger-and yeah real meat, yeah fresh this and that- the price is up there in the category of a sit down meal. Its a BURGER for Pete's sake!! Plain old over-priced Vancouver once again-the burger isn't even that great. Save yourself the disappointment and buy some good meat( buffalo is the tastiest) and make your own big, fat, juicy, no preservatives, no pimply kids germs , delicious, flavour filled, juice running down your fingers....... burger.
Seriously, this place is a rip off!
Maybe get the FF to go-oven fries aren't the same.
Had a craving for Vera's burgers and fries one night and called ahead for take out; told it would be about 10 minutes. BF arrived promptly and paid, then waited around for about 15 minutes until he noticed that there was a bag 'o food sitting on top of a toaster in the back. Yup, that was us! He finally got someone's attention to hand it over, and wow! it was sooooo good when we unwrapped it at home. Cold, soggy fries and cold, dry burger. Delightful!
I usually love their food but this time eating in might have been a better option.
Well.. where to begin...
We were out and about one day over the summer, and thought we'd stop by Vera's for burgers (we had never been... but thought they must be good as they have so many restaurants around town)... wow.... it was a bit of a dissapointment:-(
I first must say that the menu looked very tasty!! And we thought we'd be in for a great treat.....first off - the service sucked!!! WOW.. did it ever!! The cook/server was rude and could really care less about customer service!
Now for the food:
My daughter ordered a grilled cheese sandwich, as she doesn't care for burgers ... I have to say THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME SHE COULD NOT EVEN EAT HALF THE SANDWICH!! It was absolutely awful.... first off, it was prepared on 1 piece of inside bread, and 1 end-piece of bread (uh... are these people so cheap that they have to actually use the end pieces?? I'm not saying I'm a wasteful person (in fact I choose to eat the end pieces at home... I'm just saying that these end-pieces don't exactly taste great in grilled cheese sandwhiches) but most kids hate the end pieces in general.... and they are horrible when making grilled cheese sandwhiches!!!)... as well... the crappy sandwhich was burned!!
As for my burger... it was dry, and had to be chased with water... yum...*vomit*
I can't say we will ever return to this crap shack... sorry
I've been to Vera's a couple of times in the past and have never been impressed by their food, service, value, or anything else related to them for that matter.
Their burgers are ok. They taste like the frozen burger patties you buy from the grocery store and grill at home (no flavour). The toppings are okay. The fries and onion rings are ALWAYS super super greasy.
There isn't a whole lot of service. Someone takes your order. They cook it (probably in about 10-20 minutes). Then they call your name and you go get it. So, no service in my opinion.
As for value: what value? For the price they charge at Vera's, I could go to Cactus Club, Milestones, Burgers Etc, Red Robins for a far FAR superior burger (and service to boot!).
Ambiance is dingy. It looks ok from the outside, but everything (from the chairs, tables, countertops, ketchup bottles) is covered in a slimy and sticky layer of grease. YUCK
I highly do NOT recommend Vera's to anyone wanting a decent burger. Head over to McD's or BK for a quick burger fix.
This place has improved over the past year and is a lot better than some of the other Vera's especially the Denman Street disaster. Two of us had the lamburger with mushrooms, shared a fries and with a drink each the bill came to $24! Kind of expensive but the food quality and service were more than acceptable. Th place was clean and the fries were fresh (not frozen). Seems like the management realise there are a lot of choices in Kits and once you've had a bad experience you are unlikely to return. I hope some of their other locations wake up too.
Ok, I am guessing the people who voted this horrible burger the best in Vancouver normally go to McDonalds or Burger King. If I was to compare to those places, ok it is better.
But it is also a lot more expensive than those places. So, it should be compared to places of similar cost, real restaurants.
This burger was try and a terrible flavour. Okay, perhaps it is fresh, but I don't see how cheap meat is any better not frozen. How about use good quality, and fresh?
Service is indifferent, though I can understand how it would be hard to get anyone decent wanting to work here.
If you are comparing this to the fast food places, which they must be to claim any quality in the food, well then it also fails. The fast food places tend be cleaner, with better service, and a lot cheaper.
I don't eat at those places for a reason. And I won't eat this terrible burger again for the same reason. I like good food.
Having just moved to vancouver from the states, I was looking for a burger that was as good as back home. As i live by the beach in kits I figured I would try one of the local gems. I was told by a co-worker to try Modern Burger but apparently they are closed. Driving home from work I stopped at Vera's to give it a try. My opinion of a burger is that it has to be of substance, good size (check), slightly pink (check), good value ( I come from the land of a frozen burger for 6 bucks, so check). The burger was great, the fries, just crispy enough to hold the ketchup without collapsing. The Milkshake was really outstanding (banana chocolate). Service was informative ( big menu), if not totally friendly (more like a "whatever dude" attitiude) Overall it was a great tasting burger, surprising because when I happened on this website that was not the feeling i was getting (good thing i went for myself before I saw this site, if I hadn't i might not of, based on the reviews). Vera's is a great joint, I'm happy they are in my hood, I'll still try modern burger if they re-open.
I've been going to Vera's for years, even when it was only in Dundarave. The Kits location has unfortunately gotten worse each time I visit, which is too bad since I live 5min away. They're doing the Sport Chek thing, hiring younger staff who spend more time chatting with each other than paying attention to what you're ordering and cooking it right - I shouldn't have to send back two overcooked burgers. The plain hamburger is still good value, but have you checked out the prices they're charging for the rest, $8+ for that??? And the milkshakes and fries have also gone downhill. Greasy greasy fries and overpriced milkshakes. The owners need to spend more time in quality control rather than focusing on expanding locations - even worse are the staff at the Granville & Broadway location. Sorry Vera's, like FatBurger you've lost the edge and now you're just hype and overpriced. Fix that and I'll come back.
Mrs. C and I were out with some friends and we were struck by a craving for gelato. Since we were in Kits and we didn’t want to hunt around, we hit Vera’s. They had a good selection and I ordered a blackberry and chocolate combo that I shared with my beloved. The blackberry was more of a tasty sorbet, and the chocolate tasted good. My friends had mango and pistachio, which were reported to be yummy.
The gelato was good if not great, and the price was right. Plus they upgraded me to a waffle cone at no charge. The service was very good, and the restaurant décor was okay if you like corrugated steel and picnic tables. I thought that was just fine, too.
Will I be back for a burger? I think so.
This is the first time I have gone to Veras. I heard alot of mixed reviews about them. To put it short the burger was very good but the staff was completely lost. I understand in Vancouver there is a shortage of good workers but at the end you may have to pay a bit more because if these are the people looking after your restaurant you will lose alot of customers. Back to Modern I go.
As recommended by a friend, a visit was paid on the rave reviews.
Immediately greeted by the ladies behind the counter, my wife and kids are instantly at ease. That set the tone for the evening. You can almost tell when the crew like the place they work at. Al least this was the sense I picked-up on.
SERVICE: Fast, friendly and patient. Realising my daughter's first visit, our order-taker waited patiently and answered each question with the long version.
FOOD: Well, as mentioned I had high expectations. In one word, MET! To concisely define QUALITY as 'conformance to requirement', this was the basis of my expectations met. I have to add, if you like fries (who doesn't?), brace yourself. It could be the ball-and-chain holding them back in the Burger race. The 'Chilli Fries' (by which I have been spoiled by "TOMMY's", the Los Angeles standard-bearer for anything you can put Chilli on) is less than stellar. The chilli is supposed to marry nicely with the fries. This didn't happen here. Nevertheless, the beef burgers ar worth repeat visits.
AMBIANCE: It is what it is, a casual burger joint with roadhouse style picnic table seating. You may have to share a table with other patrons which may be uncomfortable for some. If it is, choose your timing wisely.
The friendly demeanor of the ladies behind the counter, QUEENS of the burger kingdom!
Long time BC (West Vancouver) resident - Summer, at least twice weekly, we visited Vera's on the beach. Sad to see it change, however we visited Vera's Cornwall location when it first opened and although the ambience was lacking can't say the same for the burgers! Simply the best. Takes a little time to figure out the additives but once done worth the wait. Like the upgraded new Cornwall location - have to try the Taco Shack when we're back in the area.
My buddy & I ate here recently, my first time at Vera's. I didn't lnow what the drill was so I guess I was a little slow(20-30 seconds staring at the options, nobody else in line). I asked a couple of reasonable questions and was met each time with a loud sigh and roll of the eyes. I appreciate that $8 p/h I'm probably looking at a student who doesn't give a damn, but don't insult your customers & expect a tip. The burger was fine but I was pi$$ed off when eating it so it was hard to enjoy.
After reading all the bad reviews about the Kits location I'd just like to mention that not all the locations are as bad as this location. I can agree with the reviews this location has gotten, but I've recieved better service and food from the other locations. Maybe they should put some of the staff from the other locations in that store and hopefully bring it up the hype about Vera's. A new location opened up on main street and since I live in the area I thought I'd try it out and see if it was any better. IT WAS!! the staff was friendly and helpful even though it was busy, they didn't stop caring about the customer. the food was great, especially the lamb burger, the food was served in a timely fashion, granted it takes a little longer when its really busy but then it was worth waiting 15 minutes for it. People shouldn't write off all veras just because they had a bad experience at one location...if you didn't like one try a different location before giving up.
These specialty buger places are hit and miss with me. This particular one is an absolute joke. Mediocre burger on cold bun and possibly the worst chips I have ever eaten. In this case I only ate one and tossed the rest. Dark, oily, cold. Hey Vera dudes, change your oil, at least once a year! Staff when I went didn't seem to care. Too many other places to try. I'll never go back to this or probably the other Vera locations.
This place has some of the best burgers in the city. amazing food. the turkey burger is the best I have ever had. The new location is great - much bigger, cleaner, more seating. The kids that work there are a bunch of punks. I guess they don;t have a manager - it is a bunch of 15 year olds with attitude. The bad staff is close to out-weighing the good food.
Spent over 10 bucks for a burger and fries, and I didn't really even think it was that great, at least not for the price. You can get a much better burger platter at Crave, and it is a nice sit down restaurant.
