Ok, I don't know who the idiots are that voted this place the best burger in Vancouver. It doesn't even merit a runner up position. We've tried this place 3 different times over about a year. As so many people rave about it, we tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. But 3 chances are all they get. 3 times terrible. Service is rude and unhelpful.
The burgers are packed full of filler, I'm assuming bread crumbs, and cheap meat. It taste terrible. Proves that just being fresh isnt all it takes for good tasting meat. The buns are cheap generic buns, think that being a chain they could actually get a quality bun, I think that's almost as important as the meat.
Fries were a greasy soggy mess, very unenjoyable. I really see nothing to like about this place, the prices would be fair, if it was quality, but it is not. They are direct competition with fast food burgers, and I'm not sure they would win that competition either.
Whoever thinks these burgers are good, needs to quit smoking 2 packs a day, and stop drinking a gallon of coffee a day. You clearly have no taste buds left.
I spicailly wanted to go to this place because it swore that it made the best burgers in town. Hmmmm.. so I thought I’d check that myself.
Food: Me and my boy friend ordered veggie burgers with lettuce, onions and mayo. The sad part was they didn’t have any mayo. Kinda weird for a burger joint to have no mayo. So the cashier suggested we get the “VERA’S” Sauce. This was basically made of garlic and mayo mixed. We thought we’d give that a shot. The burgers were huge. Kinda like combining two Mc chicken burgers. So that was interesting. I’m really picky about my veggie burgers and wasn’t too sure about this one. But with the first bite I was sold. I loved it. However the Vera’s sauce really didn’t taste like anything sort of like mayonnaise diluted. It didn’t have a lot of garlicky taste to it either. The fries were crispy but nothing great. I like the face that they served beer as well.
Service: A little too slow for a fast food joint
Value: Good. The portion sizes were huge.
Ambiance: Nice and cozy.
Went to Vera's for the first time yesterday night. I had the BBQ burger with fries and the wife had Veggie Burger and sweet potato fries. My burger and fries were very good. The beef tasted fresh. My wife thought the Veggie burger was just alright though. My only complaint was the fact that the guy handling the cash was also handling the toasting of the buns...not exactly food safe. The meal was very filling and worth the $22 between the both of us.
After haring over and over that Vera had the best burgers in town, We decided to try it... Big Mistake! Maybe they don't train their staff, but we witnessed the poor burgers being charred, along with the buns, and the onions. Huge flames covered everything, and inocently we thought "maybe that is their secret!". It was take out, and we live quite far from that vera; when we opened the bag home, we realized everything was burned indeed. We hat to throw away more than half of it. Only one thing I give to them: their onion rings are very good. Everything else, including service, can go in the trash along with my take out.
I went to Vera’s on Granville with my wife and our friend Sunday evening. We found the burgers and accoutrements very good and the staff more than helpful. We were with a ‘senior’ and the staff was very patient waiting for our menu choices. There were no problems with cleanliness; in fact no problems at all. For those patrons who complain; you must realize this is a “burger joint”, not a stuff-shirt, hoity-toity five star restaurant. We have been to this outlet about a half-dozen times and found it always to be a very good “burger joint”; never any problems with food, staff or the outlet.
if the meat was not overcooked or reheated (whatever they do to the burger) it would have been fine. The taste was not horrible, but it was not memorable either
The chef or grill person might have been overly enthusiastic about hot sauce. Darn it, the bread was soaked with it. soppy and wet with dry meat. What a combination.
ok so the menu is interesting, a few good choices (pricey$$$) you can fully customize your burger, which is cool. servers looked so unenthusiastic (maybe term papers are due soon or something?) inside had a cafe like feeling, although i myself was not really feeling it. meal took like 10-15 minutes to come, the first few bites were good and after that i said to myself ill take a red robin burger over this. all in all i didnt really care for this place and will most likely never return to this location or any other one.
Poor service is the name of the game at Vera's Burger Shack in Marpole. Careless and nonchalant employees and extremely long wait-times make this burger joint easy to avoid.
I've continued to go back to Vera's with hope that they'll turn things around but I've finally given up. They screw up my order almost every time and it's a hassle having to wait ten to twenty minutes for my order in their overcrowded dining area. Add the fact that ordering a burger, fries, and drink will run you upwards of $13 and you're in for one disappointing experience.
Avoid Vera's Burger Shack in Marpole.
I've never been to Vera's before..So i thought I'd visit the one on granville street before a hockey game last month.
the Place was fairly dirty.. no big deal.. they could have been busy..
We ordered our burgers, and sat down while they were cooked. The lady who was tending the cash register was scratching her head alot. (no big deal)
This didn't bother me until I saw her tend to my burger fixings.
She had just handled a cash transaction, and then proceeded to touch my burger with her bare hands (that have just handled cash and her hair) I couldn't finish my entire burger after that..
I had the runs the next day unfortunately.
(I only get the runs after eating a certain Pho restaurants)
i can't help but think it may have something to do with the cashier handling cash and food without washing her hands.
Good burgers, and the kids like their chicken fingers (better than most other places).
Self service other than the staff bringing out your order to you, which is ok.
No beer served at this location :( (but Main St location serves it :) ).
Good yam fries and good choice of burger add-ons.
Their lamb burger is a winner too!
You can watch a hockey game here too, but you need some amber to make it more appealing for the adults.
I love the Vera's in Kits. I was very happy that one opened closer to my home. The quality of this location is horrible from the rudest staff to the inconsistent food.I've been six times each time hoping they would pull it together, never once has my order been correct.I even gave it a couple of tries after their renovations, it still is way below average. The owners need to re-think this location. Cause it really is one to avoid.
The first time I ate at Vera's the burger was fantastic. The second time it was good. This last time the burger was average with no care in preparation. I do agree with a lot of you that this location has a staff that just does not care about their job. Customer service does not exist. Food handling is abysmal. Cash handled with bare hands and then the cook goes back in building the burger. No gloves, no washing of hands. I'm calling the owner of this location and ask him what his food safety standards are.
They need consistancy in their preparation of the food. I don't really want to go back to this location again.
Went to this place because I love burgers, just like Wimpy on Popeye, but the deluxe cheese burger was a soggy mess and the meat was burnt. I think they re-heat the meat patties from the day before.
Waste of time and money. Will give another location another chance but the Granville St. location has a clueless staff.
I don't think Survivorman would eat here.
Have been to numerous vera's, they have been from average to quite good. I have been to this one twice, and was disappointed twice. The order taker did not seem to care too much. I ordered a hot dog with fried onions and the onions were burnt. The other time I ordered a Vera Burger with numerous toppings, 2 of which were not put on. It just seems to be very disorganized. I would recommend the top management at Vera's to take a look at the staff.
Stay away from this one.
I've been a big fan of vera's for years. When they opened in south granville i was really excited. The first time I went, it was busy but the place was packed, you had to leave the room to change your mind. The next couple of times I went, it was too crowded. too stay, I finally gave up and started going to the one in Kits. Driving by one day, I noticed that they had opened up to the other side, what a difference, the burgers are still great, but rhe room is bigger. I asked what the deal was with the pink, they said it was supposed to be that way, that they use fresh burgers, with almost no filler, and they check the temperatures to make sure they are cooked, the guy said something about cooking not killing, but I didn't want the cow getting killed visual while I was eating so I went to my happy place. I love their food and now Ican go there and sit down and watch a game while I'm eating it. great job Vera
