Vera's Burger Shack is a licensed hamburger joint on Davie Street.
I had an opportunity to try my first Veras Burger tonite at the Davie location and found it to be cooked to perfection. It was cooked medium rare and was oh so juicy. Along with the burger, I had one heck of a milkshake.
I will be back soon to enjoy another of Veras burger creations.
When I want to enjoy a burger, I love Vera's burgers since they're filling. This location isn't that big, popular with the lunch & dinner crowd, if you go at the right time, you can find a place to eat your meal.
I usually order Cheeseburgers and soft drink and do like their fries, but I knew I wasn't that hungry. The burger is juicy, plump with lots of taste and the bun is fresh and toasted right.
Compared to other burger places, you pay a bit more, but you pay for the quality of the burger. If walking along Davie, makes you want a burger, stop here and enjoy a burger.
Will be back soon.
If this new big city franchise plans on making a go of it out here in the burbs, good luck.
Small, burnt, shrivelled burger, probably the worst hambuger I've ever had. Decent fries I guess. Service... what service? It's like a movie theatre concession, go up and order, here's a cup go get your drink, we'll call you when you can come pick up your food. And both a tip jar and tip option on my debide card to boot?
lol.
Value, almost $15 for food I wouldn't pay $5 for.
Brutal.
Hey, what's up with these bad reviews for Vera's? IMHO Vera's have the best tasting burgers in Vancouver. Miles ahead of McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's. I have been numerous times and can report A-1 experiences. I doubt I am that lucky because I have yet to win the lottery. Their burgers have that true bbq grilled taste loaded with your favorite toppings, yes they are a little more expensive but I think worth it. My last trip to a Vera's last month on Davie I had great service a very tasty burger and fries, although the fries were a little on the greasy side. A small note to all restaurant goers, there is a bit of an employement problem in Vancouver/Victoria right now. Too many jobs, not enough staff therefore you run into employees who just don't give a crap and sometimes they show it. This problem is dominant particularly at the fast food places, young staff who could careless about the customer and this isn't just a problem you find at Vera's although on my visits to the Burger Shack I have been treated well.
I have always been served juicy and fresh burgers here. I love the array of toppings - my fave has to be the bacon cheese with sauteed mushrooms, onions and all the veggies! It goes well with a chocolate shake. The poutine is also awesome, tho I always ask for the gravy on the side to avoid soaked fries. Serving sizes are enough that two people can eat well off a single burger, order of fries, and one shake. Alas, haven't been there in a LONG time in order to preserve my health ;)
I do not agree that these are the "best burgers in town". Far from it. The meat tastes like it has some filler or something. I've eaten there 3 times, and I can't quite put my finger on what that taste might be, some grain product? I've had worse, but it certainly isn't anything to make a special trip for.
I was a bit leery of Vera's as I had never gone there before, but I was pleasantly surprised.
This wasn't the best burger I ever had, but the BBQ Burger I ordered was good for the price. The patty was moist and cooked medium-well, and the toppings were discernible in the burger itself. The onion rings I ordered alongside were also similar, not really the best but not bad at all in their own right.
The service was pleasant, but a bit slow. There was a large lunch crowd however, so it's hard to say it's any worse than a three when they are obviously making everything fresh to order.
The value is ok, but $11.50 for a burger, rings and fountain drink is a bit on the high side. The quality and size are both pretty good but if you just want to get filled up, you can get something else for cheaper.
The Ambiance is fine. There is enough place to sit down and eat, and the restaurant itself is clean. The staff there were cleaning tables on a regular basis, and everything appeared hygienic.
Vera's isn't really the best, but it's definitely a step up from McDonald's or other fast food. If you want a burger and want to spend around $10, then it's a good option.
I like the burger especially the cheese burger because of the awesome cheesy flavor. The cashier lady was very nice and helpful with deciding my choice of the burger. I recommend anyone from pitt meadow to visit this local burger joint. The value is one of the best value in town.
I am a fan and love hamburgers, as everyone on here who writes a review. At first I see a Vera's All around the city. And thought... I will try their burgers. and it is specifically a "burger restaurant". Before going in to the Davie Street location; I had previously heard only bad comments about it! Yet, I had gone in un-biased. After finally reaching the counter, after standing in line for at least 10 minutes (yself and two other patrons only). the woman (whom is the owner) asked: What would you like? I replied: "a burger", with fries and a pop. then the confusion began! the woman at the counter asked me: "Well, what kind kind of burger???" I replied, "a Regular Hamburger". To which she she replied, what kind of hamburger?. I said just the regular burger! she begin to say to me: Well we have... and then went through the whole menu. I said: "just the normal burger". then she asked me "well, what would you like on that?"; to which I replied... "whatever it comes with". then she began to ask me again what I wanted on my hamburger, and, told me all the list of condiments. I said "whatever you put on it". Then she said to me: Well, you can have "3 free items. would you like ketchup, mustard, mayo, everything else is extra". My reply, a regular hamburger! then she told me, finally "the burger comes plain! (nothing on it)". finally... while waiting I began to start sneezing, and coughing. Looking around, I seen clouds of black smoke, billowing above my head, and throughout the restaurant. I mentioned that their vents were not working, to getting no reply! 15 minutes later (in an nearly empty restaurant) I got my burger, with fries and a pop! this is not the end of the story... I get it back to my abode, and take a look at what they have, a friend of mine and co-worker seen the patty and said: " it looks like the SUBWAY ribs". Pre-pressed something??? not meat! and it was a wedge; meaning, wide on one side and flat on the other side of the patty. I took a bite to feel something hard on my teeth... The end of the tomato, and bit of stem! Still trying to be un-biased... I ate two, maybe 3 bites, and had to throw it in the garbage! the fries were cold, tasted re-fried, and hard! Ten dollars and change down the toilet :( To be fair... I understand the food business is hard to be in. and realize that people are trying to make a buck! and probably not all the Vera's are the same, maybe they had an off day? However the customer should always come first. For the price people are paying, and the terrible confusing service... It's not hard for customers to walk down the street or over to Denman for a burger. for the same price or even less money, to get a better burger and deal.
went to vera's for a hot dog, all beef and yummy.
they grill it fresh and it simply was delicious with a great smoky seasoning flavor. i added onions and mustard. unfortunately they don't offer sauerkraut. as a native new yorker, whats a hot dog with kraut?
the place doesn't look that clean. but the food wand staff was good.
As far as burgers go, this place serves up the best, whether with real meat or vegetarian.
They have good prices, a wide variety and tasty fries.
Definitely worth clogging the arteries. Go for it!
I have now been to all the vera's stores (I think) and aside from one experience which I would qualify as mediocre (the burger was overcooked, however when mentioned they replaced the burger immediately with no arguement.) I am a burger and fries guy, and i think the burgers are ther best in vancouver, especially when you consider the price and the topping choices. the fact that they are licensed now just makes it easier to wash the burger down.
The thing about Vera's is yes, the burgers can be really big. Things look good on the outside. The other thing about Vera's is that there is no good delicious taste to the burger patties. The yam fries are ok. The milkshakes are ok.
So if you're really hungry and need value over quality and need to get full and don't have so much taste buds left in your mouth, then by all means, go for Vera's.
On that note, I will never go back to Vera's again.
I find Vera's can be a bit inconsistent at times, I decided to try the location on Davie and was pleasantly surprised. The burger I ordered came full of all the condiments and the onion rings were very tasty. Like I said, I wish all the Vera's we're a bit more consistent, but I can see myself visiting this location again in the future.
I was a fan of Vera's on Davie until one night a couple of months when I noticed that the price that the cashier (who later identified herself as a co-owner of the Davie franchise) had charged me for my combo was higher than the price on the take out menu that I'd printed from Vera's corporate website the day before. Instead of refunding the overcharge, I was told the "error" (It was clear they didn't believe me) was the fault of head office.
When I returned home, I called the store and gave them directions on how to find the take out menu with the lower price on their own corporate website. Instead of a sincere apology for overcharging me, I was told I could return to the store for the refund (never mind the time that I'd wasted by this point) and that someone from head office would call me. Instead of a call from head office, I received a very patronizing phone call from someone who identified himself as the franchise holder. I was a loyal Vera's customer until that night - so much so that I'd given them not one but three opportunities to make up for not believing me about the overcharge when I first brought it to their attention. Having waited tables and served up burgers while I was in university, I know my customer service expectations were reasonable (and met with a mixture of indifference and annoyance).
I used to dine at Vera's on Davie about 3 times per month. I will never return.
We've just had lunch at Vera's Burger on Davie with a few friends. My burger had an incredibly moldy taste, although I couldn't see mold in the juicy mass. We've though it might be the provolone cheese (what normally shouldn't be moldy anyways) so I've asked to replace it with cheddar. They've done it, but the taste was still there, so I didn't want to risk to finish it. I've left the place hungry and sorry for myself as I should have asked my money back. (Paid $12 for the burger and the soda)
I will never go back and won't recommend the place.
Complaint about a salmon burger resulted in rudeness at Davie St. location. Feedback to manager fell on deaf ears. Strange how this restaurant feels it's unecessary to pay attention to its customers. I will never dine here again. They've lost hundreds in revenue over a $10 burger. Odd business etiquette.
