We were going to stop in for take-out but the wife wanted to eat-in for some reason. Ambiance is spartan, fluorescent lighting and no-frills decoration. That being said, the food was great!
Started with Hot & Sour soup and 2 egg rolls. The soup was very tasty, with a good kick and included actual prawns and meat, unlike some cheap versions I've come across. The egg rolls were fired golden brown and were not greasy in any way. The taste was what I would expect from and egg roll, miles better than your average grease stick that you find in some places. Next we had a special, Spicy Garlic Pork with Cabbage on Rice as well as Spicy Singapore style Chicken Chow Mein. My significant other found the spicy garlic a little too spicy (she asked them to tone it down) but I enjoyed it, next time I'd like to try at full strength! The Chow Mein was excellent, not greasy or dried out and with a nice amount of curry. Noodle texture was very good as well.
Portion size on all dishes was good but not humongous. That said prices are not that high so I would say value is still very good.
Service was friendly and prompt. Hot green tea was refilled numerous times. Total was $23 for everything but I left $40 because I thought they earned it. This is your typical 'Mom & Pop' operation but the cook obviously knows what he is doing. Would recommend and will return (although probably for take-out).
Also worth noting, as I looked into it before going, they had a good inspection from Vancouver Coastal Health as of December 9, 2010. This is more than can be said for many places around town...
