U And I Thai serves the finest in Thai cuisine with a focus on authenticity and fresh, quality ingredients. Their menu boasts fresh papaya salads, delicate soups, spicy noodle dishes, flavourful curries and a wide variety of meat, vegetable and seafood entrees.
Food is very authentic and well seasoned. If you choose 5 out of 5 on the spicy scale, you well get as spicy a dish as you would get in Thailand (very spicy by North American standards).
I went as part of a Groupon promotion. Had duck stir fry in a red curry sauce and pad thai. IMO, pad thai is the best way to measure the quality of a Thai restaurant, and their pad thai is quite amazing. The most notable flavors in the pad thai (after the intense red pepper) were fish sauce and citrus/vinegar, rather than ketchup such as at lower quality restaurants.
Service was decent, though not as attentive or thorough as it is at Tropika down the street.
The coconut 'creme brulee' was disappointing. It was cold and had no hard caramelized sugar top to crack. If it had been named something other than creme brulee, I would have been a tad less disappointed but still wasn't worth $10.
The ambience is very nice. Thai yet minimalist decor, very nice Christmas decor. Nice chandelier, dim lighting. Good for a date night.
This is our first visit. We came in here about 8pm Saturday. I was expecting to be very busy & packed but to my surprise the restaurant was only half full. My heart sank. If this was a good restaurant it would be very packed on Saturday evening in this nice weather.
However when the food was served, everything on the table was so delicious..!
The green curry chicken was the best we have ever had in Vancouver..! the tom yam goong was authentic & spicy enough. Oh, yes, we will be visiting again..!
This is real authentic Thai...no ketchup based Pad Thai crap like you get everywhere else...this is the real deal! The room is modern and sexy and the service is great...also something you don't expect from a Thai restaurant, they have an excellent selection of wines! Such an improvement over the last Thai restaurant that was in the same location.
Make sure you leave room for their desserts...I just had a coconut creme brulee the other night (served in a coconut shell!) along with some fried bananas and ice cream that my wife is still talking about.
I am so happy to have a new local Thai restaurant.
