Delicious Dim Sum

I was pleasantly surprised of the food at this restaurant. Came here on a Sunday and we were seated just before the line ups began.

Service was better than expected. A list is provided where you check off what you want. A good selection of about 40 items is offered at $2.50 each. Other items are offered at different prices. I also prefer this method of food service as the food is usually fresher than those that sit in the carts to be pushed around regularly. Food came by fairly quickly and tasted really good. Shrimp dumplings were well prepared. The dumpling skin did not fall apart and wasn’t too doughy. Place is a bit cramped, but I can tolerate it for the good food and price.

Cash Only & They Serve Shark Fin Soup

I went in on a whim since I've lived nearby and always intended to go. As far as these kinds of places go, it was good.

I'm not going back because it's cash only (I'm skeptical of business practices that operate on a large scale with no electronic payments) and they offer shark fin soup. I think it's bad form to have that on the menu.

Second Time - Still the Same

Our first visit to Tsui Woo was last year and decided to go back again today as our regular dim sum place is temporarily closed. The order sheet looked pretty good with plenty of selection at $2.5 each. We ordered 14 items for the five of us, and everyone left with a full stomach. However, the quality of food was only okay - nothing compared to our usual dim sum restaurant. The Shrimp dumplings were small and didn't taste very fresh. The worst dish was probably the deep fried tofu - they came soft on the outside instead of crispy and had cheap seasoning salt all over. We found the food quite bland and boring.
Service was okay, servers came by frequently to fill our tea pots and bill was presented quickly when requested.
Parking can get difficult as there is only a small parking lot in front of the restaurant, but there is plenty of street parking available in the neighborhood.
Overall, the experience was just okay and I think it'll be at least another year before we return.

Choose Your Dates Well

Our family celebrated Father's Day at this restaurant. The garnishing of the plates were lovely and the preparation of the food had unusual combinations of ingredients. For example, the deep fried sea bass in the combination dinner for 6 was prepared with a sweet and sour sauce garnished with green peppers, perfectly diced squashed, and deep fried pine nuts; the fish was whole with the bones removed. This was the good part. The restaurant was extremely overbooked and the staff expected patrons to stuff themselves as fast as they could and make room for the hoards of people breathing down the necks of diners to leave. The tables were made larger to accommodate families and several tables of patrons needed to stand up and shuffle the furniture aside to make room to roll wheel chair bound grandparents to their tables. There were small tables used for large families to crowd around. There were people seated in tables where they did not make a reservation in a full house. There were patrons who made reservations and even double checked earlier in the day, but found themselves without any at dinner. Our waitress wanted us to leave after 1 hour and tried to remove our teapot. We were still eating, so I ask her to leave it. She slammed to teapot on the table. We saw tables of 10 or 12 leave before us--how did they eat so fast? We will still return for the good food, decent prices, and the decent service (most of the time), but not on any special occasion.
