Great Neighbourhood Spot

I'm so mad at myself for not trying this place sooner! The decor is cute, nothing fancy but it feels authentic. Service was great (I went with a fairly large group). I wasn't blown away by the appetizers but my main (chicken soulavki) was fantastic. The prices are incredible.....you can get a litre of wine for $25 and a great two for $20 dinner. If your in the neighbourhood (and tired of waiting in line outside the fantastic Red Wagon) give this place a try.

Tsolias does Greek food right!

Tsolias is a small family run restaurant, chances are if you stop by you'll be served by one of the daughters and your food will be made by the dad. The chef grew up in Greece so the food is very authentic, it's also priced so well you wonder how they make any profit. Portions are large and the food is fresh and delicious.

Probably the best items on the menu are:
- Houmos: Definitely the best I've ever had, it must be made with very high quality olive oil as it's texture is creamy and almost buttery
- Arni Psito: Roast lamb shoulder that practically melts in your mouth, if mustard isn't your thing ask for it on the side instead
- Kota Skaras: Charbroiled Chicken Breast, absolutely delicious

Everything comes with huge helpings of greek salad, rice, pita bread, and vegetables. It's very filling so make sure you come hungry!

An amazing Greek experience.

The Tsolias Taverna is a nice little Greek restaurant located on Vancouver's East side.
I go to this restaurant at least once every month or two.
There are two dishes I highly recommend.
1. The Kota Skaras (Flat, grilled chicken) and
2. The Arni Psito (Roasted, marinated lamb).

First, the Kota Skaras is an amazing grilled chicken dish that is tender and flavourful. One of my
favourite dishes, no doubt.

My second favourite dish is the Arni Psito. This roast lamb is incredible. The meat literally slides
off the bone. Very tender and tasty.

Both dishes are accompanied by pilaf rice, Greek Salad, roasted potatoes, roasted yams and the round bread with Tzatziki sauce.

Always go at lunch time because the prices are much more affordable.

You will not be disappointed and your stomach will thank you.

Favorite Greek Gem

This is my favorite Greek place! Well the 2 for $20 dinner specials are a good deal. Other than that, the dishes are a bit pricey.

The beef souvlaki is the really tender and deliciously tasty. I think I've tried most of the dishes on the dinner special, but the beef is my favorite.

The servers are always really nice and attentive. However, the food does take a little time, which is strange since the place usually isn't busy at all.

But I definitely recommend this place for dinner. Really tasty food for a good price!

Went to a 50th birthday party with about 30 other people and we half filled the restaurant which was good for them as there were only a few other diners. Nothing spectacular about the food, the calamari was on the soggy side and the roast lamb could have had more flavour but the souflakis seemed good and the pita and dips were tasty. Service was friendly but the best thing about the meal was the belly dancer and she was only there because of the birthday party!

Pretty Good Lunch

I have always walked past this restaurant with my friends and we've always wanted to try it.
One day we decided to go for lunch and all we can say was, worth it!
There was only one server and she was very kind.
Not many other people were dining, it was just our table and two others.
I ordered the Calamari and it was good. not great, but good.
My friend ordered the Beef soulvaki and he seemed to like it a lot.

Anyways, it was good and the service was kind.
We'll go there again soon!

Hearty and Tasty

I have visited this place twice, and enjoyed it both times. The service has been solid, and we were especially impressed last time watching the server with a VERY difficult and hard to please table across from us.

The bean soup was homemade and delicious. The entrees were well-prepared and tasty. Their roasted potatoes and hummus were exceptional. They have weekly 2-for-1 specials, so check it out!

For lunch or dinner on the cheap, Tsolias is a good choice. The food is always consistent in quality and the service is to the point. If you're looking for more of a yuppie/trendy experience look elsewhere. Nice cool, somewhat dark ambiance. Tsolias concentrates on the important thing: the food.

My friends and I have been coming to this restaurant for the past 13 years. We absolutely love this place. The food is delicious and the ambiance is quiet and relaxing. The staff is always friendly and sweet. We especially love their pita bread and hummus. The pita bread is always fresh and warm upon arrival. They have several dishes catered to the vegetarian crowd which I think is great.

16 years...Keep trying Tsolias!

Don't know if its the server or just an "off" day. I've frequented this place many times in the past and is always reliable. Having not been there for 3 years and was in the neighbourhood one Friday evening I craved Greek food. Everything was as I remember until I we received our dinners. I couldn't believe we were served leftovers (hard rice thats been refrigerated, a spanakopita that tastes like the freezer, and lemon potatoes that clearly is not fresh). I question the server and she just states every is fresh and moments later tells me everything was made fresh yesterday. I'm shaking my head and could not believe the runaround. At least offer to replace wife's soggy calamari which was probably fried in year old oil. I am paying full price for this dinner not the 2 for 1 deal...boy business must be suffering and the server obviously did not care for what I said. For a Friday evening I expect dinner to be a least par for this place. Never going back again...just lost some business Tsolias.

Parking was good, lots of parking on Hastings, walked in at dinner time, it was pretty dead, only one other group was there when we walked in, after we ordered there was 3 additional groups, the food took a while to come - probably only 1 cook in the kitchen just the the only server. the prices for the value would be pretty expensive if not for the 2 for $20 special.

if not for the special, i would have gave the Value rating a 2 "two"

water was only topped up once. the whole night(when she came to check up on the food)

did not even get a potato to go with the mushy stew i ordered beef souvlaki off the 2 for 20 special

Sub to Cesar salad was $2, a little steep i think considering other places are free, or $.75-$1.75

washroom was not tidy and looked dirty.

after leaving i asked for a business card, was told they had none .

My fiance and I have been to this restaurant on several ocassions, mostly during their 2 for 1 specials or with the Entertainment Book coupon. All we've ever gotten is the Chicken Souvlaki, which is definitely outstanding when compared to the same dish at many of Vancouver's other greek restaurants.

The service has always been a bit off. Always with the same older woman who has never come off as pleasant. The last time we went there (last week) she had lost her voice, which is of course not her fault. However, one would assume that they would have someone to help out in such a situation.

Oh, and the place was completely dead at 8PM on a Wednesday. Not a soul inside other than us, the server and the cook. That was a bit concerning.

My neighbourhood Greek place

Submitted Monday, November 26, 2007 - 2:19am [Dine in]

Tsolias has just had its 16th anniversary. I remember eating there when they opened in '91, when a friend and I happened upon it on our way home from work. It's a good, solid neighbourhood restaurant - not spectacular but always good quality and dependable. The restaurant is family run, with the addition of a server or two who have worked there so long that they may as well be family. Dad works the kitchen and Mom and daughter work out front.

Went there tonight for an early dinner with my buddy Mike after an exhausting day of car shopping. They were running an anniversary special - selected entrees 2 for $12.95 for dine-in (yes, you read that right). Mike had the beef souvlaki and I had the chicken, both of which came served with greek salad, rice, tsatziki and pita. They don't do roast potatoes but serve a delicious combo of roast carrots and (I think) turnips instead. We each added a bowl of their yummy avgolemono soup for $1.95 (the regular price) and a soft drink. That soup is my comfort food whenever I get sick ($3.50 or so with a piece of pita).

For a whopping $22.10 plus tip, we were both happily stuffed. Without the anniversary special, it would have been about $11 or $12 more, which is still really decent IMHO. They must be doing something right to still be going strong after 16 years.

Not blown away......

Was in the mood for Greek, so we checked out the line up at Stephos, it was its usual half block long into Fresgos parking lot. So lets find some place different. Ended up in east Van, on Hastings, and saw Tsiolias. Lots of easy parking on Hastings, so in we went. Surprising busy for a Wednesday night. We were seated by the lone waitress(who confessed it was unusually busy), and were left to ponder our menus for about 20 minutes. We both decided to have the roast lamb. It took another 25 minutes for the food to arrive. Portions were good sized, although I thought the boiled coin cut carrots were an odd choice of side. Rice was mushy. Greek salad was what you would get at the Safeway deli. The lamb had an odd sweet mustard glaze. Not bad tasting though. It was very fatty however, had to leave 1/3 of it on the plate. Tables are way too close together, making conversation difficult. Probably won't go back.

I came across this spot waiting for a buddy who was new to the area. Saw it was open & thought why not! Prices were amazing, super cheap but the potions were filling! I've been to stephos, which has a line up, and this place's food blow's them out of the water! I had the roast lamb with was indescribable! My buddy had the saganaki & the spinach pie, and he couldn't stop raving about it. We had a bubbly waitress who has been there for a few years( I asked cause she was pretty cute so I needed to make some sort of convo) They have a dinner special on as well, but I prefer the lunch the prices are about the same as you pay for fast food, but YUMMY!! and the afternoon girl is cute which kinda helps as well. Family run place with the best greek food I have had in this city by far! I don't know what these other reviewers are complaining about. try it( lunch is my advice)
