Trees is a trendy bohemian cafe that serves organic, fair-trade coffees roasted in-house. Freshly baked pastries every morning.
They had a big sign outside. The Granville location sure got good reviews. So, we brought some to the Big Cheesecake Shootout. On call were the blueberry, almond & New York style. The contender's came from Thomas Haas, Pappagallo's, (don't laugh) Earl's & Nick's Spaghetti House. We also had Thrifty's on our mind from the week before, which was a surprise hit.
Those people who think this is the best need to get out more. We had a pack of 6 judges, all eaten all over the place. We universally ranked Tree's dead last. By far. We didn't even bother finishing it. All 3 flavours are essentially NY style (YES, i have eaten it in NY) so there is nothing light about it. The almond was waaay too sweet, the blueberry was sort of missing in action, and they were all too 'goopy' and didn't taste great either. 'Wooden popsickle stick' came up a lot uring the evaluation.
Let's not beat around the bush here. It wasn't good. Factor in the price and it downright sucked. I would rather eat Thrifty's own cheesecake (which is not to dis Thrifty's, it was surprisingly very good). Even if Tree's halved the price. Don't waste your stomach space on this one.
BTW, I also tasted their feta spinach scone, nothing to write home about either. Maybe they should stick with the coffee ... or maybe not ...
I love everything about Trees @ Yeltown. Great coffee, best ever cheesecake. My partner and I shared a NY and it was just beyond what I know about cheesecakes. I read a review about the use of "all natural, like at home-made recepie" and I must agree, this cheesecake remined me of my grandmother cake. I am impressed.
I heard the Chocolate is incredible ... will try next time.
BTW, I love the open and fresh decor.
