What the H3ll has happened?

Went there with two friends on Tuesday.
The place was half empty. We went for the AYCE,and seeing as my friend wanted wild salmon sashimi,we had to opt for the A B C menu for 34 dollars.

What a joke. Lets face it,all all you can eat sushi places deliver you half of what you ordered. But this place is outrageous.
Nothing comes. as ordered. Sometimes,2 or 3 attempts must be made before you get what you want.

When we asked for more sashimi,the waiter replied "too busy now,must make a sheet."
Come on dude.. 3 servers for 22 people,and youre too busy?
And the C menu is a rip off. There is nothing worth getting excited over for 35 bucks.

The service was annoying & bad

I was walking along Seymour, noticed this AYCE Sushi, decided to give it try. Reading the reviews after my meal, wasn't anything I experience in service.

This place has been open for over a month, its a large space, busy for the lunch time crowd and found the servers disorganized from the moment I walked in. I was seated at the sushi bar with some others customers, and saw what people had ordered, to give me some idea.
I decided to order, Salmon & Tuna Nigiri, Avacado roll, Chicken Teriyaki, Tuna & salmon roll.

My Tuna Nigiri arrived, as I tried to get ginger & wasabi with my first dish, and gave me a generous portion. I waited to get my next dish, as I watch the 4 sushi chefs, receive orders, but the wait staff was not getting the orders correct. I saw this about a dozen times. I also didn't like how the sushi bar was set up, there was opening to my right, thinking this is where the staff will pick up orders, but this occurred from both sides. This became annoying when two of the wait staff, bang into me & the other customers a few times with no apology.
My cucumber roll arrived, but somewhere in the speed of the staff, they took my ginger & wasabi away. I asked the sushi chef, if I could get some more and it was very tasty the cucumber roll, which fell apart easily. I got my rice, waited for my chicken teriyaki, and when it did arrive, the portion was small with great flavour. I'm still wondering if my Salmon Nigiri, salmon & tuna roll would arrived. At this point, my servers where anyone who would come to the sushi counter, asking, and my tuna & salmon rolls arrived together. I did find the roll fell apart easily, and it wasn't that great tasting.
I asked for the bill, thinking my last order will arrive, it never did, and gave up asking. My bill was incorrect, the ACYE sushi price $10.98, plus price of coca cola, as they charged me with Salmon Nigiri, when its part of the price. The waiter reverse it, my Salmon Nigiri did come, ate one of the pieces, but I had to leave. I went to the till, thinking this would be faster, but the staff were slow, one gal bumped into me, didn't apologize and that's when I paid, left no tip and told them I doubt I will be back.

I doubt the service will improve in being organized, and the lack of friendliness, drove me nuts. I think the food is good, when it get's there, but with so many other choices out there, once is enough.

A nice AYCE Chinese sushi place

Dinner here was a nice experience, the restaurant was not terrible busy as there were only about 10 other tables dining. The decor has a darkish wood feel , accented with lighter pine and Asian touches throughout the room. Three young men were making the sushi, and there were four waitresses ( they were pleasant and took care of our wants expeditiously )and one male waiter with a manager and female bartende. So lots of attention was paid to service: being polite, smiles, having the food come out at intervals and not all at once, refills of water/tea, and not a typical AYCE-slam-the-food-on-the-table-and-run-to-the-next-order-table-service.

The food was average at best, while there is a great deal to choose from nothing really made you think that it was memorable or outstanding. Good, not great.

Adults were $20.95 and kids4-9 were $12.95.

If you were downtown and going to have lunch here I'd say it'd be advisable ( interesting to see how busy it gets ). Dinner? Maybe and maybe not, it'd depend on how hungry you were and how much food you really want to eat.

Worst AYCE sushi, and even worse customer service!

3 of my friends and i were in the mood for all you can eat Japanese. We had been here before and enjoyed it, so we thought it would be a safe bet for tonight. First of all, it took us at least 30 mins after we filled out our order for any one to even come to our table and pick up our order, even though we tried numerous times to flag down the staff. I asked for red wine, and the waitress told us about chardonnay. We finally get a wine list, so we order a bottle of red, but the wrong one was given to us. I asked the waitress about it, and she said that the one i wanted was not in stock, so i asked how much the one she was giving us cost. She assured me that it was the same price as the one i had orginally wanted. We placed quite a large order, and only 75% of our food came. We specifically ordered from the more expensive all you can eat menu so that we could get the wild salmon sashimi, but after 3 hours, it never came. We asked for the bill, not only did they over charge us for the bottle of wine, they also added an extra glass of wine, and overcharged us for all 3 of our all you can eat, AND added a 10% automatic gratuity to our bill even though we were only a party of 3. We tried to ask the waitress about this and got nothing but rudeness, and fingerpointing, regarding the misquote of the wine price. Then it took the waitress 3 times to get our visa cards input right, and even tried to overcharge us once again. Not only did i literally have a bad taste in my mouth after leaving this terrible restaurant, but now i'm thirsty from the immense amount of MSG they used. I do not recommend this restaurant, the food was poor, and the service was even worse. Its too bad, since i used to quite enjoy this place. I hope this review reaches parties interested in this restaurant, i would highly eat at your own risk if you still want to go, and please, DOUBLE CHECK YOUR TAB.

I'm not that picky but even I have limits

My friend wanted to take me out for my Birthday lunch and I chose this place - close to work, AYCE and I haven't been in a long time. It used to be great when it first opened but I don't know what has happened now! The fish was horrible, tasted like it had been around for weeks. The beef didn't even taste like beef and had a strange texture. I NEVER spit out food but I just couldn't help it. Even the tea was bad. We shared one order of chicken teriyaki and it was decent, so we ordered another and it was TERRIBLE. I don't know how that's even possible. Sayonara Toyama.

I liver round the corner and walked past the restaurant everyday. It is always very packed with diners and I thought it must be good,
I had Don with mixed sashimi. The food was reasonable and came fairly prompt. But the waiters were unfriendly and distracted. Even the cashier was unfriendly. I had to get my own extra wasabi and the tea was not filled quickly. They also have 2 very large screen showing japanese teen pop music video which really put me off!

It is not as cheap as one expects , I know better quality sushi than this and the service and the ambience really put me off

Mediocre Sushi? Definitely a Conspiracy

I don't understand how this place can retain a 3/5 stars. I'm looking back at the history and see a bunch of good reviews - either these guys have never eaten mediocre sushi or there's some conspiracy with the restaurant staff being told by the boss to rate this place.

Anyways, I tried this place out way back when they just opened and started advertising on the radio. It was my father's birthday and he loves sushi, especially a lot of sushi. Plus, he knows an old friend that works there, so we decided to try this place out.

When we arrived, his friend wasn't there - but we told the staff that we knew him, and they treated us to complimentary drinks. The place was pretty empty for a Saturday(? - a weekend) night - but that's to be expected for a restaurant that just opened recently.

The food... well it's just horrible. Don't try the raw fish here. Even all-you-can-eat quality should be better than this. When you go to a sushi place, try the raw fish first, but don't dip it in sauce to hide the taste. The freshness of the fish can pretty much tell you the overall quality of the restaurant itself. Raw fish tastes... well fishy. But fresh raw fish doesn't taste fishy at all. The fish here was nowhere close to fresh. The salmon was okay, but then again, it's hard to find a sushi place in vancouver that can mess up salmon.

The price is okay - but you can get a lot better all-you-can-eat quality sushi for the same price elsewhere, especially in Richmond. Seeing as this was in downtown, I was hoping it would have downtown quality... but I was wrong. It's like chinatown quality - and they don't even have sushi in chinatown, unless you count the fish stalls that reek of fish smell from all the way down the block and up the next street.

I haven't been there for a few months so maybe they've upped the quality of their sushi. But after my first experience there, I don't think I'm ever going back.

The reason I'm even writing this review now is because I just heard the company I work for is commissioning these guys to make sushi for them and I was shaking my head the whole time after hearing this... I'm ashamed.

If you like cheap sushi - then this place is for you.
If you like to keep the sushi in your stomach - then I recommend going somewhere else.

One of the worst Japanese Restaurants I've been to

I work right around this restaurant and walk by it all the time at lunch. It is almost always packed, so I figured I’d try it out. The All-You-Can-Eat menu is only $10.95 for lunch, which is pretty cheap. This was the biggest waste of $10.95 I’d ever spent.

Service: not good. Ordered at 12:05, nothing came until 12:30. Not even miso soup, which we got near the end of all our orders. Other tables got their soup though, so, I don’t know what’s happening there. Waitresses don’t really attend to you, esp the older lady. I was sitting right by the aisle and my hand was raised to her eye level, waving and it was practically in her face, she looked and walked right on by. Also, said lady was cleaning the table next to us, decide to push the spilled tea away from her and splash our table..why??

Our orders got cut, an example of our cut orders is:
Ordered 7 pieces of nigiri salmon, got 4
Ordered 3 orders of Dynamite roll (3 pieces per order), got 2
Order 3 orders of Salmon Maki, got 1
Ordered 2 orders of chopped scallop roll, got 1
Ordered 2 sunomono, got 1
Ordered 2 puddings, got none.

After having some of the sushi, we were all so glad the orders were cut.

The sushi: Rolls were alright. But DO NOT order any raw fish at this restaurant. I’m an avid sushi goer, albeit, not too often at All-You-Can-Eat places, and I’ve had my fair share of sashimi, nigiri, etc. The raw fish at Toyama is horrible, not fresh at all, and they all come with a metallic refridgerator taste, the Tai had such a metallic-refridgerator-y taste to it that I had to spit it out. Also, the texture was like a thawed piece from the freezer...repeatedly thawed and frozen, again and again. The salmon for our sashimi was alright, but the ones in the Salmon Maki and the Alaska roll had this strong metallic taste as well. The tamago nigiri...the tamago was not good, not done well at all. The chopped scallop roll was pretty good, the scallops were pretty fresh. The dynamite roll was alright, until you ate the prawn tempura, then you’d realize that the prawn tempura was so old. One piece was fried fresh, but the actual prawn used was so dried out and old that the prawn meat appeared to be stripping. With this tho, the mayo covers up the staleness of the prawn, so you wouldn’t be able to tell much.

The cooked food is alright. The chicken karage was pretty good, as was the gyoza. The grilled zucchini that we got, wasn’t grilled, 1 piece was, the other was just a piece of sliced zucchini.

In the end, we were overcharged as well. We were charged the All-You-Can-Eat rate and also charged for some individual items. Have to give credit that they fixed it up when it was brought up, no apology though, but I wasn’t looking for that anyway. All in all, I wouldn’t come here again. I hope I don’t get food poisoning or some weird bacteria from the unfresh raw fish from eating here, that is all.

Went here for dinner and was not impressed. We arrived right at 5:00 and placed our order right away. 3 or 4 things came, and then nothing, half hour pause. The place was not very busy (Monday night). We asked our waiter about the rest of our order and he said we should order again, which we did. First dish to arrive was not something we ordered. Another waiter, when asked about it, rudely grabbed it off our table. 2 minutes later the same dish came back. We again commented that we never ordered it. Now our waiter came over too and we told them both it wasn't something we ordered. It was taken away but we were made to feel bad about it.

Then a couple of our things came, and then something else that wasn't ours?!? Yes, that came back again too. I ordered one piece of hamachi (high-end tuna) which was old and the grain of the fish was falling apart -- didn't eat it. The tofu teriyaki was disappointing. California & dynamite rolls were good but nothing special. Gomae and sunomono were good. The one quite good thing was the lobster nigiri (chopped scallop style nigiri).

Over half of our order never came and after being there nearly 2.5 hours and being extremely hungry at that point, we left. We paid cash for what the meal was truly worth, had words with our waiter (he was also the manager), and left. I will NEVER be back. So many better sushi restaurants in Vancouver.

And the chairs, ouch!! they are made so the front edge of the seat digs up into your thighs. We asked for cushions, but they did not have any.

First off I've been going to all you can eat restaurants for years, many, many times troubles have come: forgotten orders, lost orders, wrong orders misplaced orders but I got to say this was atrocious never have I had all 4 happen in one place.

First off this was a get together for a few of my friends and we were trying to make a good impression on a few friends of friends so i looked it up at Dinehere for the best all you can eat place and found this. I ordered there before with a friend it was OK but nothing special, from this i knew where the place was. I told my friends this is where we should go "4 stArs!?! OMG" everyone thought this was going to be good when I got there it was packed but not over full as i was the only one waiting lucky i came before the others did and got a table was sitted quickly right after a party had left. When everyone got there we had trouble trying to get a waiter just to look over i had to wave my hand up in the air and yell HEY just to get them over and when we did get someone over and put our order in that's when they started having fun. First they came gave us something we didn't order and left we looked around wondered who ordered it but let it slide they came again 10 minutes later with some food then 15 minutes later with more and 10 minutes again every time coming with only 1 or 2 small dishes. We were getting hungry and frustrated, also one of the the people with me would only order and eat one kind of sushi TORO we ordered this 3 TIMES over our stay but i'll get to that Later. We finally saw a lady coming with a big dish with what looked like toro the guy happy to see this coming was let down as she passed finally we got a big dish right after and were able to eat but 3 things were missing from what we ordered so we ordered again ONCE more things were missing, coming slowly and weren't what we ordered she left we looked around wondering who ordered this to find we didn't and this time though yelling to get someone over i told the lady we didn't ordered this and she just went "oh" looked at the table and then realized it was for the table next to us took it and gave it to them and left. what if we had touched it NOT sanitary!

Getting mad about the lost, missing and wrong orders i started to take them all down in total 11 things were missing from our 3 orders so i called someone who i hadn't talk to before over and asked to see the manager surprisingly he was a young man who looked like nothing but a server but whatever i told him 11 orders were missing we got the wrong order, how we had to yell just to get someone over and how we had a guy waiting for almost 2 hours for just ONE TRAY WE ORDERED 3 times. He apologized and said we'd get our order pushed up and get ice cream as compensation that was not at all enough, this time we waited 20 minutes for the toro and other things but it was more bitter then sweet from what i had to do just to get one order for a person i was hoping to impress was unbelievable and in the end we had to pay a 15% tip BY FORCE (was in the bill)and here i thought tips were based on how well you served and up to the decision of the customer but they obviously didn't get that anyway I got the hell out of there, this was a the WORST place I've gone to AVOID AT ALL COST

I should know better than to get excited for anything AYCE but I was and I learned a lesson.

First off, the service was absolute crap. The one guy (I'm pretty sure he was a manager) that mainly served us never smiled once or made eye contact. I did my very best to engage him as a human being but received robotic service at best.

The food was all over the place. For one, the sushi itself was garbage and was void of flavour. The dishes came out so sporadically and a full 10-15 minutes had passed that we thought we were done with our initial order and ordered another batch of food. 5 minutes afterwards, we started receiving MORE food from our first order. We soon realized that we were not going to be able to finish all of our 2nd order and I informed 4 separate servers to discontinue any food that was being prepared for us as we were full. They didn't seem to understand so we gave up and went to pay our bill anyway.

All in all, this place suffers from bad management and communication towards their customers. I can't say I'll be going back any time soon.

Raised their prices and Slimmed down selection

The boyfriend and I used to come here maybe every 2nd week. We kind of forgot about this place and returned after maybe 1/2 year. Boy were we dissapointed. The prices have gone up (alot) the selection has dwindled, the service has gone way down.

Food was blah, nothing special just like any other All you can eat. DVD's they were playing were soo annyoing! Think K pop which repeats it's self over and over again. Honestly, I think they play it on purpose to get you to eat and leave ASAP. "oh baby, honey, honey, honey" I can't get that annoying song out of my head..

Took forever for our drinks to arrive (which we had to ask 3 times for) When we got our bill once again they had charged us extra for drinks we had not received. We told the server and she took the bill to the cashier who then was too busy fiddling with the DVD player that she forgot about our bill. When we asked for the bill the 2nd time, the extra drinks were still on the bill! Finally we got it corrected, paid and quickly left. We will never return again. What a shame

Not bad for AYCE

Came for dinner on a weekday evening. There was a steady flow of people coming into the restaurant but it was never full. Everyone that worked in there was Chinese.

Food: Great selection of sushi to choose from. The size of the sashimi i was not too huge and overwhelming that it unappetizing. The size of sushi in proportion to the rice (nigri) was pretty good. The hand cones were good and the rolls were also decent sized. I swear we didn't order that many rolls but maybe they wanted us to fill up on it so that we wouldn't order any more. The quality of the sushi was just OK (didn't get sick the next day)

Service: They kept refilling our tea and water. Some of the servers spoke/understood minimal English

Ambiance: Tacky, cafeteria style. There was a sign on the wall for a beer special, and they actually just cut out the label on the cardboard box the beer came in and tacked it on the wall and wrote the price on it.

Price: $44 including tax.

I ordered a wide assortment of food. I was disappointed however in the deep fried dishes, which were very overcooked and tasted like little else than oil and batter. The Salmon and Tuna Nigiri I had however was fresh and tasty. The rolls on the other hand were sliced as thin as cheese. The chopped scallop roll was tasty though.

The place looks really nice, and the service was decent.

Make sure you get the mango pudding for dessert! They put real chunks of mago in at this place!

Not returning again

Save your time on somewhere else, because this place has become offensive when it comes to service. It is evident management has not motivated and engaged the staff for a while and as a result the servers no longer care about their jobs with respect to customer service, they're just there for the money and clearly the attitude shows. This clearly an AYCE restaurant so I'm not so keen on finding excellent service but rather i expect the minimal. I had ordered an all you can eat for lunch, got my first round and finished. For the next half hour i was looking at my server for approximately 20-30 with multiple situations of eye contact, and still was not asked if i wanted anything else nor was I checked on to see if the food was good. Finally my server came and filled my glass with water and then walked away. After that I pretty much had enough and went up to ask for the manager but he was not in so i delivered my complaint and stated I'm satisfied with the food and not with service and i asked the server did she not see me looking at her and she replied that she did acknowledge that i looked at her several time she was curious as to why. How unfortunate she wasnt curious to know why. I told the other server that i refuse to pay and had gotten defensive about the statement and rationalized that i did eat the food and repeatedly asked why don't i pay. I responded that if i had just left that they probably wouldnt have noticed and they agreed. I don't think its ever good when someone admits that they are unaware of their surroundings. Clearly they is not the first time someone tried to bail out on their service, and they are too focus on their short term gain and not their long term. I give this place 3 more years until their lack of desire of working and attitude finally catches up with them and the place goes under

All You Can Spit Out

Went here on my lunch break for the AYCE. It was disaster. The beef teriyaki and the chicken teriyaki were so grissly that I spat them out. I had one roll that was unidentifiable, not sure I even ordered that one. A guy at the table next to me was served the wrong dish as well.
The only decent food I ordered was the salmon nigiri.
Service was fast and my tea was always full. That would be digging deep for a compliment.

Worst Sushi Restaurant in possibly the entire Lower Mainland

I went here this afternoon with my gf for lunch. She said some of her friend recommended this place. Bad choice. If you have any idea about proper sushi, you would avoid this place like plaque. But lets be fair:

The Good:
- Restaurant wasn't packed at lunch even though at prime location (and not for good reason)
- The tea was good.
- The meat skewer was tasty.

That's it.

The Bad:
- Horrific, horrific, horrific sushi. The fish taste like they've been stored for months. The spicy sauce taste like the cheap stuffs you buy from the supermarket.
- Massive amount of rice on everything. The rice was cold. The rice also fell apart from the rolls. The rice taste like it's been stored for days.
- A few waitress was rude. A few was nice.
- We got wrong amount of everything on our order. Order 3 cones got 9. Order 5 pieces of Agedashi Tofu got at least 15. When complained, one waitress refused to take them back and told us to be careful next time??? Holy cow how do these people still in business???

This restaurant is a total disgrace for sushi lover.

Better off in the Food Court

This pretentious AYCE sushi joint does not deliver. Seems like they are going through the motions. Food is barely acceptable and they downsize or eliminate some of your orders on purpose. There are other better AYCE sushi places just not in downtown Vancouver. Better off in the food court if you are downtown.

Came there a lot. So far, it's the best buffet place within Downtown, they get a lot of japanese and korean [email protected]@

Food:
Great variety of sashimi choice's on dinner with relatively low price (21-ish including.. beef sashimi, tuna sashimi ika, and salmon sashimi are my fav, and also don't forget to order a lot of prawn tempura..
For the late-night they start 9 olock for12 dollar is worth it and have a great value of food you get Toro, tako, saba sushi selection (you get it no where for 12 value i can eat for like 15 per time). My favorite dish besides sushi is ika shioyaki and octupus garlic butter.

Service:
The waiter and waitress are friendly, they have korean japanese chinese onsite. The food is usually come fast, They would come every 10 to 15 minutes to fill up the water or tea

Ambiance:
Not fancy, its an open area restaurant perfect for friend and family.

Overall:
For my best sushi place (so far), i'll give them 4 rating... Better get reservation for the large party because once you got there especially during Lunch time its like pack of ppl in there

I went there with my gf last Monday. The ambian is nice, service is good (maybe because we sat right beside the cash register). The food, however, is typical chinese style jap food. For $11.95 I think it is a fair deal, however, the sushi rice we had was really bad (too hard, tasted like leftover rice). All in all, not as good as I've expected but not bad for the price in this area.
