Toshi Sushi is a popular sushi house off Main Street ran by proprietors Toshiyuki Saito and Tomoko Saito. Get there early as there usually is a line up out the door.
Went here a week ago with some friends on a weeknight. Arrived around 5:30, and waited for about 30 min.
Excellent sushi, one of the best and most freshest sashimi I've ever had in Vancouver.
Really amazing service, we ate and chatted until 8:30pm. We were never rushed to leave even with the line-up outside.
I will definitely be back for more!
I've been to Toshi twice, and both times I got the worst service and food I could ever NOT ask for. The waitresses took forever to take my orders, and my orders took forever to come. Bizzare thing is, it wasn't that busy when I was ordering. The food, wasn't that great for me either, the rice was really mushy and tasted liek nothing. I tried the Mango Rolls, they fell apart when i tried to pick them up, I am pretty sure it's not my poor chopstick skills..I use them quite often. I was constantly asking for napkins or a refill for water.. -that i never got that is. I think they got annoyed with me, HELLO? What happened to good service?!I am never going back there again, never, ever. All I have to say is, I would not reccomend you to dine there, and definetely not the most authentic Japansese restaurant I've eaten at.
I've been going to Toshi's since they've opened and have traditionally received good service and good food. However, the last couple of times that I have gone this year, the food was okay at best and the service was not what it used to be. The table had to be re-cleaned after we sat down and my girl-friend found a small string of hair in the rolled sushi. (Not that big of a deal, as I have seen worse).
I felt slightly claustophobic in the restaurant as they really pack the customers in like sardines.
If you want a cheap restaurant, don't mind the wait and really want to experience other customers' elbows, this is the place to be!
