Tonkin serves authentic Vietnamese cuisine for lunch and dinner.
Tonkin is a new Vietnamese restaurant on Main Street replacing Honolulu Cafe. We decided to try Tonkin after noticing it while driving by. It was clean inside and a similar layout as I remember Honolulu. I think we were one of the only people there but we were having a very late lunch so not really surprising.
I ordered pho with rare beef and brisket. The soup broth was pretty good but the rare beef and brisket was dry and seemed old. Perhaps they haven't been very busy and kept it around a little too long?
Overall it was a decent experience. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. But the beef quality was suspect and needs to be improved. I might give Tonkin another chance on a rainy day.
Came here with the family the other night.
Walked in at 6:30pm on a friday evening.
We were the only ones there !?!?!
It was dinner time, where were the patrons?
Heard from my sister that the food was good and the Pho soups contains lots of meats and noodles.
We order 2 special As ... 10 dollars for Pho, one spring roll and a can of pop.
The meal came out fast and was hot.
The soup base was very good, and tasty not much MSG.
The sliced beef was very dry and not much other meats - one meat ball, very little beef tripe and flank.
Overall, I would say the amount was not sufficient - noodles specifically.
Water closet was clean, restaurant was pretty basic, but clean (new coat of paint) ... kitchen looked very clean/new also.
They did have a 15% discount for the grand opening.
But even with the 15% discount, the amount of noodles was not sufficient.
Will we come back? Maybe try the other menu items!!
But my recommendation to the owners would be to be consistent, we had lots of noodles in the Pho soup on one visit, but very little noodles in the next Pho we order on a different day.
