Just bought take out from this neighbourhood place. I hadn't been in quite some time. Previously found the food to be "so - so", but decided to give it another chance. Although the sushi is "passable", the young woman who took my order was so rude, I will never return. After the server rung in my order, I made a change causing her to void my order and ring it in again. Despite my apologies, she was clearly annoyed with this and barely looked up at me for the remainder of the transaction and again when she gave me the order. Who needs this kind of service with the plethora of other good sushi places in the vicinity.
Food/Value: There is nothing outstanding about this place. It got a pretty standard lunch box special that comes with California rolls, small thing of teriyaki chicken with rice, salad, and 4 pc tempura for $8.
Ambiance: Its has gotten better here over the years. Now they have Black stained wood furniture instead of Ikea stuff and that does help. But again nothing special.
Service: I only order take out, A year ago they had this lovely server that remembered my order and name but she moved on to bigger and better things.
I eat here about once a week, and I plan to keep coming back.
There are places cheaper, there are places fancier, this place is just right in the middle.
Unlike previous reviews, I found my Chicken Teriyaki was cooked fine.
$8 Lunch bento with Chicken Teriyaki on rice with 4 pcs tempura (1 prawn), salad, miso soup and a california roll.
Left on a full stomach - prefect lunch portion and price.
Service was decent, but can't complain for the money.
Will go back if I am ever in the area.
Didn't care for ambiance, but it's just lunch.
Turns out Shiro's closed on Tuesdays, so walked couple blocks up to the next sushi restaurant spotted. Ambiance...whatever, at least it was clean; chairs were uncomfortable.
$3.50 for appetizer (rice noodles with tangy vinegar,1 gross shrimp, cucumbers) $6.95 for chicken udon. The serving was big, soup was really good, but chicken bland and overcooked. The noodles were too mushy and didn't have a nice texture. Also ordered the bento dinner box 12.95, 4 big pieces of sashimicalifornia roll, salad, chicken terriyaki chicken (didn't look that crispy) The tea was nice. The waitress can't really speak english but oh well.
Lunch specials are cheaper (as usual)
Would come back again
Bad service, had to wave down the waitress several times to refill our cups with tea. They didn't seem to understand English and I had a difficult time trying to tell them what I wanted on the menu. The chicken I ordered in my Combo Box was not fully cooked, and came to me very pink in the centre. I didn't notice it until I finished half of it, and I told the waitress and all she did was say "sorry," no discount or free dish or any explanation. When I went to pay my bill, I brought the chicken up with me to show the cook and the guy that looked like the manager and both didn't do anything. They looked at each other and said something in Japanese and totally ignored me. The waitress kept smiling and giggling over something, and still charged me the full price for my meal and my fiance. I told her this was unacceptable and that I can get sick with salmonella, and her reply was that she doesn't speak any English. I was very upset and did not tip them. I will never go back to this place again. Don't bother unless you want to get sick and experience bad customer service.
