The Teahouse in Stanley Park is a romantic spot voted best sunset in the city and offers West Coast cuisine using local ingredients including signature dishes like the BC Salmon with artichoke and sweet pea mash, or pan seared sea bass.
I attended a wedding at the venue and was appalled by the rudeness and condescending behaviour of the service staff. The food (the portion I received - part of it was forgotten) was decent, but nothing exciting. Definitely a pretty venue, although the glass roof was leaking over some of our table due to heavy rainfall.
My lovely hubby took me to The Teahouse for my birthday, and what a great experience! We have no complaints at all about the service, every person we encounter in this restaurant was respectful and very helpful. Ambiance is excellent, inside is nice, warm and cozy, and the ocean view is the best. Good appys, but I did not rate the food a 5 or even a 4 because i've had better; it was good, don't take me wrong, but I expected outstanding. They plated my cake beautifully.
I just dined at this restaurant today with my family for my birthday and enjoyed the dishes very much. Our waitress was very courteous and friendly, and provided us with excellent service. The beautiful scenery of Stanley Park surrounding the restaurant added that final touch for a nearly perfect dining experience. However, towards the end, when heading towards the bathroom with my mother, we nearly collided with a waitress carrying food from the kitchen. After a brief moment, we tried to pass and she said, "Excuse me," to my mother who did not hear (she was not ignoring the waitress) and squeezed past her. Keeping eye contact with the waitress, I noticed that she immediately rolled her eyes, shook her head, and looked very disgusted. I don't mean to emphasize this as the main part of my dining experience, but I would like to advise that, no matter who is right or wrong in the situation such as the one just described, a waitress should NEVER show disgust or roll her eyes, or act in any other UNPROFESSIONAL way. It was disappointing to have to witness such unprofessional behavior towards the end of our meal. Despite that, all in all, I had a wonderful time at The Teahouse and would recommend it to my friends.
The food was very good but the service was a bit lacking.
We got there an hour early because I thought my reservation was for 6 when it was really for 7. They offered to seat us in the lounge, so we sat there for 30 minutes before they even came to ask us if we wanted any drinks!
The rotten part is there were these two older ladies who got there long after we had and one of the servers took their order and totally ignored us.
After we sat down, our waitress was very friendly, but when it came time for desert and coffee, she brought the desert and then didn't bring the coffee until we had ALREADY finished eating it.
To make matters worse, she brought me my Americano but didn't bring creme... who does that???
P.S. my Girlfriend had the Sablefish which comes with clams and she got sick right after dinner...
Went here on a Monday night for DOV.
Service: Was excellent, once entered into the restaurant, had a few people ask if we have been helped. Server was very curteous!
Food: Hot and tasty! Very fresh!! Appetizer, entree, and dessert were superb and the sizes were quite generous.
Value: For $28 price fixe for a fine dining restaurant, it was a deal!!!
Ambiance: Beautiful restaurant, excellent view of the water, and even with all the windows, was very very warm. Very romantic restaurant!
Highly recommend!
The group who runs the Sequoia Grill also manages the Sandbar, Seasons in the Park, and Carderos. What do they all have in common? Overpriced, comical food served in beautiful locations. (To be fair, I haven't eaten at the Sandbar or Carderos recently). It is so annoying to be at the bad end of a restaurant (e.g. the customer end) who knows it can keep serving terrible food because the location brings in a steady stream of tourists that may never be in the city again.
The menu items ring of fine dining: frisee greens, braised lambshake with reduction, blah, blah. It is all empty rhetoric. The ingredients were sub-par. My spouse had the lamb, which was dry and grisly. We shared the frisee greens ($13) appetizer which literally consisted of 4 frisee leaves circling a little bite of goat cheese we had to fight over. If you ordered a similar appetizer at Bishop's, for instance, you would get three times the amount of food on your plate. How can they not be laughing in the kitchen? It is like a bunch of people are playing make-believe, a dress-up game they like to call "fine dining restaurant". We are not oblivious.
For my main course, I ordered the lobster special. It was served with green ooze pouring out of its innards and stale butter. What ever happenened to presentation? We were not satisfied with our dish, so the waitress was hostile to us. I mean, who are we to complain? Oh yes, the customers spending a couple hundred dollars.
On the plus side, I drank wine by the glass that night and the selection was amazing. The Sauvignon Blanc was probably the nicest I have ever tried. And the dessert was pretty good, too. So, if you want a place to go for wine and dessert after dinner, I definitely recommend the Sequoia Grill. You can see a beautiful view of the the city from your table.
Went for my mom's Birthday lunch with my mom..(her Birthday)
Server was fresh out of bed minus the shower and eyeliner!
Couldn't remember the specials and the 2 that I did hear didn't sound nearly as good as the 6 that I heard the other server tell the table kitty corner to us! My MOM was choked as she is a definite "Foodie" (by foodie I mean loves food hates servers!) that said, she was pissed!
The feature soup was burnt and the chicken on the cob salad was cold, and the tea apparently doesn't come with milk, sugar, honey, a spoon...um...we got the BAG! Yay! and hot water! Double bonus!
Other then that, the view is incredible! I would definitely go back! Maybe in the evening when the morning hangovers have subsided amongst the servers and perhaps with better company!
:)
heart you mom!
hahaha
Cheers
Sinday brunch is a real treat. Our croissants were great with fresh preserve, I had the West coast eggs benedict, which were some of the best i have tasted so far in vancouver. My friend had the french toast, she loved it and would have had a second helping given the chance. The service is some of the best i have experienced form around the world. Friendly and attentive without being suffocating. Basically a great place for a sunday brunch treat for anyone. I would definately return and take out of town friends here for any of the menus.
went to Sequoia Grill for brunch on a sunny day. OMG, the water view is just so lovely~
i was saated in the 'conservatory' section of the restaurant (it's wrapped by glass, like a solarium, if u know what i mean).
Ambiance and view are both excellent
Service is 3.5/5. Nth is wrong with the servers, they're great, but I had to wait for 15mins for a table when there are numerous vacant tables in other section of the restaurant. I guess they dont want to open the other sections for brunch... It's not a huge deal with me cos i got a window seat and i'm happy abt it :)
Food wise, nth spectacular. I had the West Coast Benedict with smoked salmon...it was nicely presented but $14 for a muffin might be a lil pricey...
Conclusion: if you luv water view, dont miss this restaurant.
This would be a great restaurant to take tourist too. The view is outstanding and the food is tasty. I found the service staff to be ok but I was a little disappointed with the lack of interaction with our waitress.
The carrot soup is amazing. Everyone at our table enjoyed their main courses.
I would recommend this place if you want to get out of the downtown core and experience Stanley Park.
We went to sequoia grill for our staff Christmas brunch and I have to say that the restaurant was really accommodating and service was great. Servers were friendly and catered to our needs. The food was delicious. All in all, it was a lovely time.
After hearing some accolades from friends I decided to take my parents who are visiting Vancouver. The restaurant is in Stanley Park, so there is nothing lacking in overall setting. The restaurant feels cozy like a mountain lodge, and coupled with the drive through Stanley Park makes the whole atmosphere peaceful and as close to sublime as a city restaurant can be. Service here is top-notch. It does not get much better, so I give a hearty 5 for service. I ordered the daily specials, and all were tasty. The mushroom soup on the regular menu is a definate thumbs up. Even the table bread is out of this world, and I wish I knew where to get it. So, I look forward to returning. This is of course not a cheap restaurant but for what it is, it is reasonably priced and well worth it. Go!
I attended a small wedding last week at Ferguson Point and the dinner reception was at the Sequoia Grill. Some of the dishes we ordered were: The Teahouse Mushrooms, Seafood Taster, Baby Spinach and Pear Salad, Ahi Tuna, Braised Short Rib, Venison, Lemon Tart, Double Belgian Chocolate Cake and Warm Chocolate Fondant Pudding. Everything was great and no food was left on any of the plates. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The place was romantic and perfect for a small wedding party.
Went for dinner here last Friday for the first time since this place has changed hands/names. The menu is similar, they still have the famous mushroom caps and carrot-ginger soup. Although the food is solid, you go to this place for the views. We split the seafood sampler appetizer (grilled salmon, ahi tuna tartare and curry prawns). The portion size was generous and all of the dishes were fresh and good. The server was a bit spacey though. For example, we had to ask for plates to share the appetizer and for water refills. He was fairly knowledgeable about the menu though. My partner has the 10 oz NY steak, which was decent, although the sides (potatoes, minted demi glaze) were predictable and lackluster. I had the scallops (actually an appie) with a side of veggies. They were OK, not bad, not great, came with a huge pile of useless radish sprouts piled on top. The desserts were excellent - try the sunburned lemon tart. I don't know if I'd be rushing to come back since nothing was really of "WOW" quality besides dessert, just solid good food. For the prices (which, BTW, are more in the $20-$30 range, not $10-$20) I would expect something a bit more creative and original. Maybe because the clientele is older (the majority of patrons were gray hairs - 65+) the cooking is more conservative? I'd still take out of towners here though for the amazing view.
I went here with my boyfriend about two weeks ago. the weather was really gross outside with the rain but it was nice and cozy inside. we were seated in an area with a good view of the outside. they did put us all in one area with other tables though the restaurant was quite quiet. however, it wasn't too bad (other than one table where the person seemed to have wanted the whole restaurant to hear her conversation). the service was really good. the person was attentive but not intruding. the food was really good. we shared musheroom caps, a salad, a surf and turf (12 oz steak, 2 skewers of shrimp, veggies and scallop potatos), a side order of fries and dessert (a peach and pistachio cobbler). we were so full but it was all so delicious. not the best meal i have ever had but definitely a very good one :)
Went earlier this week for dinner at 8.30 and we were seated within millimeters of the next table; they certainly like to pack in their clientele even at less popular sitting times! I was concerned when the waitress described the truffle sauce to my friend as "a bit like olive oil flavour" and "it's not a fungus". The atmosphere was lovely, and I was pleasantly surprised by the absence of muzak that most nicer restaurants in Vancouver like to pump out. My mussels were disappointing, but my friends enjoyed their tortellini and soup. The desserts were wonderfu; I'd go back just for them.
My husband and I were just married at Fergusson Point and had our Reception on the restaurant grounds followed by dinner. Everthing was fantastic. Great food, superb service and personal attention. Thanks for everything.
7 walk-ins dined on the deck. The service was excellent, friendly and attentive yet casual. All of us are at least passable cooks, and none of us detected a "blip" in what we ordered. Most impressive to all of us was the impeccable fish --- fresh and cooked to perfection (done to the proper degree, still moist inside). Limited but interesting wines by the glass (wish there had been more to choose from, especially BC wines as we are from out of town). Gorgeous setting and most welcome after a walk around about 3/4 of Stanley Park.
My meal was tasty and I liked my seafood filled mushrooms, the carrot and ginger soup was average. My son (10) who had never had a croque monsieur was impressed but my husband's fish cake (which is common vancouver fare) was dry and tasteless much like canned tuna. The service was very slow, and our bill was messed up. We were not given and apologies or acknowledgment about it. There are so many retaurants in Vancouver that have outstanding views and ambience that when asked for a retaurant suggestion I will give the Sequoia grill a miss. Why has the chain that bought the Tea House and Mulvanies glossed over charm and elegance?
