Touched my Tastebuds

Came here on a cool summer's day and was very happy with the service, food, value and ambiance. Tasty Chicken Curry, yummy spicy prawns and delicious beef. I thought the portions were reasonable. The only downside is that there wasn't enough rice in their goblet container so we had to order more and that wasn't cheap. The location is at the very end of Robson close to Denman so it's quite a walk down. It's also baby friendly on the first floor, you almost didn't even notice my cousin's baby in her stroller. And they were pretty good with bringing hot water so that her bottle could be warmed up. A great Thai place that I really liked. Will be back for sure.

A mixed bag, both in terms of food and service

We decided to try this place, after watching the construction of the interior for the last year or so...
We went in on a quiet weekday afternoon. The restaurant was empty except for ourselves.

We ordered pretty standard fare, and waited in anticipation. Our appetizers arrived, and to my shock the deep friend "prawn" was little more than KFC-style popcorn shrimp... Actually, that is not entirely true, as KFC portions are tastier and less oily. Next came the squid, which was clearly made with the same batter.

Not exactly impressed at this point, given that the price-to-value ratio was off the chart for these items... basically, this is the type of stuff I expect at the mall food court...

Next came the entrees, being a curry duck dish and a tipila fish dish... both were quite well made and favourful - more than adequate to offset the disappointing appetizers. However, these portions were small, and I mean truly small, even by downtown standards. I wouldn't complain as much, but for the fact that i had basically the same dishes at SalaThai just weeks earlier, and at 1/2 the price, the portions were double the size.

Our server was reasonably attentive, but was clearly defensive when I ignored his queries about how the food was. At his persistence, I diplomatically stated that the food was not what we had expected. His response was "What did you expect?"? No more questions after that.

I was tempted to tell them that prawns and shrimps were not one and the same, and that had I wanted popcorn shrimp, I would have gone to KFC, but again, my silly notions of social ettiquette reined my in.

On the note of ambiance, I echo the other reviewer's comments about the baby... for some inexplcable reason, there was the sound of a baby crying from the kitchen. All jokes about child-labourers aside, I don't think it is entirely safe to have a baby in a busy kitchen!

Finally, when presented with our bill, our server was all too quick to remind us that his tips should be caculated on the pre-coupon figure... just in case I forgot... very classy indeed.

In sum, a generally mediocre experience, which may be saved by the one or two good (albeit small) dishes.

All this tran

Mixed feelings about the food and service.

New Tang Thai location that just opened up at the end of Robson by Denman (right next to Sammy's Hot Wings) has gained a bit of mixed reviews for me.

I've read some of the reviews for the location on West Broadway.. they don't completely apply to this restaurant. We came in on a pretty quiet Friday afternoon at about 3.. even though the sun was shining on Vancouver there weren't THAT many customers (and this is by the tourist-y bits too, near Stanley Park). As soon as we came in, we were greeted by a waitress.. that had a baby on her lap? Okay, and we were seated.

We had to wait just to place our orders in even though the restaurant wasn't busy. Not only that, but we had a long wait even though we had just the two entrees, green veggie curry and pad thai. They served to everyone AROUND us that came in after we did! All the while waiting, the waitresses just wandered around doing nothing and talking. The baby was crawling all over the place.. and at one point crawled into the kitchen area. And one of the waitresses was wearing a very fitted black dress with the back so low that it showed her entire back bra strap. Highly unprofessional. They should just have uniforms like a black or white dress shirt with black pants.

When we finally got our food.. I noticed my curry wasn't as big as I thought it would be. I don't eat Thai food that often (Tropika, Sala Thai, etc), but I know when my portion size is small. The veggie curry had very little sauce with it (but the sauce tasted great.. what there was of it anyways) and most of the vegetables did not look fresh, and also lacked in variety. Kind of looked like frozen peas and corn to me.. some VERY SHRUNKEN tofu, and some brocolli and red peppers. That's it. With a bowl of jasmine rice. My boyfriend had their pad thai, which was really really good surprisingly, but the shrimp in it was very small.

The waitresses did constant water refills without asking. I didn't bother with ordering dessert after my experience. When I came to pay the bill, I noticed that I got charged extra for the rice. The waitress never told me there was an extra charge for it (1.65) and just gave it to me with my curry with no warning. And each entree was 11.95.

The only thing I really liked was the decor. It had lots of purple, paintings, and little ornaments. But other than that.. nothing else.

Needless to say, I probably won't be back. Better places along Denman or Robson to spend my money. Maybe I'll come back for the pad thai. Maybe.

Worst Pad Thai I have had in a while

I got a veggie Pad Thai for takeout and was disappointed with the service and horrified with my food. The noodles had a shiny sheen of grease on them and there was a pool of oil in the bottom of my container. Gross! I got the "traditional" Pad Thai which supposedly has tamarind in it, but it tasted like nothing - greasy nothing.

The waitress didn't seem to communicate with the kitchen, because I specifically asked for extra veggies in my dish - I didn't get any!

It's a pretty restaurant, and it's so disappointing that the food doesn't live up to expectations.

My wife and I decided to venture down Robson towards Denman and came across Tang Thai Restaurant. It was around 6 pm, so we decided to try it for dinner. The server greeted us and sat us beside the window. It was our first time here so we asked the server for suggestions. She recommend the traditional pad thai with the tamarind sauce and the green chicken curry. We also decided to try the chicken satay and ordered a side of jasmine rice for the curry.

The satay came first. The 4 skewers were yellow from the turmeric powder (server told us) and seemed deep fried. It was good, not dry. I enjoyed dipping it in both the satay sauce and the clear one. They complimented the chicken satay very well. My wife enjoyed the chicken by itself since it was already tasty from the turmeric and the other spices.

Next came the green curry on a leaf bowl and the rice on a decorated aluminum bowl. Wow, the green curry was delicious and quite spicy but it's ok. We both enjoyed the "kick". The rice helped tone down the curry. During this time the server refilled our glasses without even me asking them to. Thanks!

The pad thai came while we were enjoying the curry. Even though it was not as spicy as the green curry, it was good too! The noodles were cooked just right - not oily nor dry. I squeezed the lime on it and mixed everything together including the fresh bean sprouts and peanuts. My wife and I loved the sour taste of the tamarind and the lime juice since it complimented the slight sweetness of the sauce. I couldn't stop eating even though I was already full.

The server came back asking if we wanted dessert but we had to pass since we had no room for it. BTW, I loved the fact that I didn't have to stand up to pay as the server brought the credit card machine to us. Thank god since I had a hard time standing in the 1st place.

We'll definitely come back to try the other dishes!

One of the worst Thai food places in vancouver

During my break, I went over and ordered padthai fried rice, they told me it would take roughly 10 min but I had to wait pretty much all my lunch hour which is roughly about 30min, that being said, I was both eager and hungry. When the meal finally came out I brought it back to work and gave it a try. First thing I noticed is how greasy the food is. Furthermore, it didn't look like the food was mixed properly because half of the rice was different color from the other half.

At first I was happy to hear about new thai place near by, however the food and service was a huge let down. I don't remember ordering PadThai MSG and artery clogger special but that's exactly what they gave me, a greasy greasy greasy fried rice to clog up my arteries and I waited almost half an hour for this.

On another note, Very skimpy looking lady at the counter had a baby with her and she let him crawl around the floor freely all over the restaurant. What in the world is going on? another case of bad parenting?

In conclusion, I am not coming back here again for food.
