Tandoori Raj serves fine Indian cuisine on the East 65th Avenue near Fraser. Formerly called Original Tandoori Kitchen.
In study mode, I order delivery quite often. I am, in fact, procrastinating my studies as I write this because I have just eaten the best Indian Delivery I've had in Vancouver and I need to tell you about it.
While Tandooriraj charges $5 for delivery, their prices are still great value. When I compare the quality, quantity, promptness of delivery, and courtesy of the driver to other delivery experiences I've had, this restaurant tops my list. Even over the phone the staff were patient, communicative, and had great personality. I can't wait to try eating in the restaurant, as I can imagine the service is impeccable.
I ordered the matter paneer ($8), butter chicken ($11) two pieces of incredible naan ($1.50 each), pappadum (60 cents each), pakoras ($3.50) and pickle ($1). The butter chicken, while slightly salty, was well spiced and delicious. Ditto to the paneer minus the salt. The naan was perfect: large, toothsome, and tasty. I would have liked the chutney for the pakoras to have a little more spice, but the plum flavour was still good.
Thank-you, Tandooriraj, for making my study time a culinary delight.
Quiet restaurant with incredible food - honestly, the best Indian food I've had! I first went there because it was highly recommended to me by my boyfriend. (He's Indian, so he knows Indian food.) It was delicious! The shahi paneer, rogan josh, and the chili chicken is among my favourites, but no doubt everything on the menu is yummy. Great ambiance, lovely background music, and a very relaxed and comfortable place.
What's equally good, if not even better than the food was the service. One time, after we ordered our food, my boyfriend had to deal with an emergency and I had to wait in the restaurant for ~30 mins before he came back. The owners there not only kept the food warm and fresh for us, they also came around often to chat with me, fill my water, give me more pre-meal snacks - just to make sure I didn't get bored or hungry. Can you get better service than that?
As a university student, it's a bit pricier than my average meal (~$40 for two), but definitely worth every dollar.
Just off of SE Marine Drive, it's a lot more quiet than if it were on the drive, but unfortunately not many people would see it. I think that's why it's such a hidden gem!
