I think the title already makes it very clear.
I ordered padthai and they gave me 2 prawns..... literally 2!!
The next time I was in I actually made a point of asking how many prawns are in their padthai.
Hear this: She actually says 2.
Can you believe it? It's so dan rediculous, I couldn't my ears! and then she adds "Well, it's because there is tofu and egg and other stuff in there too."
Great explanantion!!!! NOT!!!!
So then I asked what if I pay extra to get more.
So she told me that it's $2.75 for 3 more pieces of prawn.
NIIIICCEEEEE!!!!!!
I don't think anything more eeds to be said, do you?
Naturally I didn't eat there.
I think the food is great value - probably depends on what you order. I've had the pad thai, the pumpkin curry combo and the swimming rama combo at different times. The combo is definitely where the value is at this restaurant.
They do sell themselves as a fast food Thai restaurant so if you're expecting a really nice sit-down dinner, you're not going to get it here. I took 2 of my friends here for dinner - we ate until we couldn't eat anymore and the total bill was $35.
My pad thai was vegetarian so I think the other reviewer on here got jipped.
The service was meh. Really nice, but not so great on the customer service. They gave us someone else's refilled teapot, which I thought was complimentary with the food, then they came and took it away after I poured myself a cup of tea. They refilled it and gave it to the other ladies. Yeah, not great.
Overall - would I go back? You betcha!
Came here on a long weekend. Was craving for Thai soup. So I ordered the Tom Ka Gai and Crispy Wonton. The soup looked perfect and tasted delicious. But the crispy wonton which they claim to have "minced veggies & tofu" turned out to be just some mushed up yam. It was kinda weird but the plum sauce made up for it. After I was done, I went for a walk and after 10mins, my stomach was acting up. I quickly drove home and had diarrhea twice! No joke. Something must've been spoiled b/c the crispy "dough" did tasted kinda bitter but I thought I was hallucinating. Or maybe the mushrooms in the soup was not cleaned properly. What a weekend for me.
Never again...
i have eaten in at this restaurant as well as taken out.
this place has a lot of character, the service is so so at best, but i've never had slow service, just not super friendly! the dishes are generally quite good, i enjoy the green curry and spring rolls. i'm not that keen on the pad thai, i've had better, but my husband would disagree with me! overall, the portion sizes are huge for the cost and for a casual dinner out it's a great place to go! i would definately recommend trying it out for yourself! :)
We tried a chicken appy and spring rolls, we were not too impressed as the grease was about 10 cm deep at the bottom of the containers, we had take-out. I may give them another try one day though as their are no other Thai places on the Drive, I dont think anyways.
Best food!!! if you are looking for somthing a little differnet but still authentic - then you gotta check this place out. You order at a counter, they give you a number , ect - you never have to wait too long and they have such a variety on their menu. Everything we had was soooooo good!!! Pad Thai was the best!
I live close to Take Thai home and have been a few times. It has lots of character and the menu looks promising... but every single time I've been, it was terrible!
Twice they got my order wrong (with take out, and I only noticed once I got home, of course). Another time. the sticky rice was rock solid, and the final straw was a horrendous pad thai (did they use ketchup??). So finally i gave up and now go to the other Thai place accross the street. Take Thai Home has tons of potential, so maybe things will turn around one day?
You actually got what you paid for, it's pretty cheap & all. But I don't see it reasonable to make you pay 7 bucks for 3 or 4 skewers of chicken. If you decide to come here, get something that's actually worth 7 bucks, like some udon noodles. Other than that, the food is okay. It's worth trying once in a while, but i definately recommend the thai iced tea.
This place is no longer called Thai Away Home, but the food is still pretty good.
The vegetarian Pad Thai is good, though it does come with prawns which is a relatively under recognized vegetable.
The yellow curry with potatoes is good. The spring rolls are also tasty.
It's relatively cheap for Thai food, but I would rather pay a bit more to have bigger portions .
