I agree with the last reviewer. I use to eat here all the time (over the years). The prices are a bit higher than the average sushi joint, but well worth it. The quality is excellent, particularly the tempura don and sushi. The fish is always fresh and made to go and the rice is very nice. The nori is crisp too. The sushi chef is always really nice. Try their miso soup, its not the instant type. Love it love it love it.

Small and Comfortable with Authentic Sushi

I've been to sushi Q a few times in the past year and only have good things to say about it. I'm reviewing to counter the poor review that's also posted here, which I feel is completely unjustified.

Sushi Q is authentically Japanese with sushi on the menu in addition to a few other items like udon, donburi, and curries. A friend who lived in Japan for a year swears by the place as one of the most authentic in Vancouver.

I've tried the Curry which is richly flavoured comfort food and served with a salad at the bargain price of $5.95. The rice was perfect and the Curry unique and delicious. The salad is crisp and refreshing and a nice counter point to the curry. I ordered the curry with an avocado roll which came with perfectly ripe avocado, very fresh wasabi served on a carrot slice, and sweet ginger. The nori around the roll was tender and flavorful unlike the tough, fishy stuff that's common at cheap sushi restaurants. The roll was simple and delicious and cheap.

I've tried other rolls and have always been happy with them. Overall, I rate the food highly and is very good value.

The atmosphere of Sushi Q is small and comfortable with a few tables and a bar looking out the window. The staff is extremely friendly, the menu is creatively written and, to me, has a nice design.

Overall, this is a hidden gem of s sushi restaurant in vancouver and worth a side trip to try for yourself.

Sub-Par Sushi

This restaurant located on Dunbar Street is quite popular for take-out sushi. I went there recently just out of curiosity and ordered some standard rolls (california roll, avocado) and a combo meal with one dynamite roll and one avocado with kappa roll. I was not impressed.
Food: was poor quality. I did not have high expectations of this place and the food certainly met them. The rice was already coming loose and the rolls did not even look appetizing. The shrimp in the dynamite roll tasted stale and really old. The shrimp was fried to death and It left a REALLY bad after taste. The other rolls are so simple to execute, but they were also not tasty. Food is fast food. (One sign when I walked in is that the "chef" was making the rolls from a "conveyer-belt" type machine.
Service: Poor, given that I was one of the first customers in there, yet with having one waitress taking orders and packing up take-out, I had to wait quite a while. The waitress looked quite frazzled. I also question the cleanliness of the whole operation, given that the waitress was handling money AND handling people's orders at the same time.
Value: Poor. The combo was 6.95 and the individual rolls cost between 2.50 and 3.00; prices are about average or slightly higher than other places, but they are not worth the money.
Ambiance: Poor. The place is mostly a take-out place, with a couple of tables and chairs. The have some menus, but they also have a board on the wall with different items listed. It looks really messy. The place looks tired.
I will not be going back.
