The Sushi King House location in Kerrisdale offers eat in or take out sushi at cheap prices.
Food: The portions are very big, almost comparable to the Samurai Sushi House sizes. However, the taste is definitely not as good. The tamago resembled a soggy tasteless yellow sponge, and I found a bone in the salmon sashimi. The sushi also had disportionate amounts of ingredients- one california roll would have avocado while the other one (from the same roll) was lacking it. However, I really really liked the tuna and salmon maki- big pieces of fish in it.
Service: Friendly service! Unlike Samurai Sushi, they don't premake their rolls. and leave it sitting there..they make it on the spot!
Value: Good value. $20.50 party tray can feed 3-4 people.
Ambiance: A big dingy. Looks kinda sketchy from outside, but I checked the Coastal Health site before coming here and it's fine. There's only about 7 tables so I'm sure it fills up quickly.
I would only come back here if it was too inconvenient to go to Samurai Sushi.
I'd almost give it 4 stars for value as the meals are decent, cheap, and portions large. We couldn't even quite finish our basic lunches. I would have given 5 stars if the place bigger and have more spaces for people to relax...
Ambiance isn't much, pretty simple hole in the wall, biggest issue is it's just a bunch of tables crammed together in a room.
i came here almost everyday, i work close by this place.
It isn't a big restaurant, we can call it "sushi bar". I love their sasimi , so fresh, and huge,,,very cheap too.
I agreed, they don't accept ATM/ VISA only Cash..that's why i can't order more if i want...........(because i don't carry cash all the time)...hahahehe.
Try their HOUSE ROLL-- you will never miss it. so good
We might have champagne tastes, but when beer budgets rule, this mini franchise (they're connected to the one in Marpole, and have a spot in Surrey, too) is where we head.
We often did dine-in, but mostly we were take-away regulars on a weekly basis. My daughter often went independently several times a week, with the kids she nannied.
We moved away from Kerrisdale 7 years ago, but we still go to this Sushi King because we find its hard to beat the value they offer. The fish is fresh, humongous as has been stated many times, decently prepared. Plus, they still remember us!! We're always greeted by a very friendly team (and sometimes they would bring us little 'extras' while we'd wait for our to-go order, like mini seafood salad, lychees, kumquats!)
These guys are our all-time favourite non-Japanese-run Go-To sushi place!
Value, quantity, fresh, we always stop here and fill up. We are from Victoria where sushi is hard to come by for a decent price, and Sushi King is our favorites stop everytime we visit! Great selection, all your favorites, the unusual items too and some interesting combos of there own! I have a hard time choosing what I am going to try next. The other review about the quality not being good, must be from someone used to high end places that charge an arm and a leg. If you love sushi and want to eat it everyday, or even every week, you can't beat Sushi KING. You won't be disappointed with your food!!!!!! Or how much it cost you. My husband can spend forty dollars for dinner at other sushi places and walk away hungry. Here, twentyfive fills him to over stuffed. And its great for a quick cheap lunch too. Highly recommended!
Massive sushi rolls, and it's not just becaues of the rice they pile on. You can easily be full by spending no mroe then 6 dollars on 2 rolls.
I always do take out but on occasion I will dine in and have no complaints. The washroom isn't the cleanest but, oh well hahaha.
it was cheap and the waitress was nice and sweet. the food was not so bad as the low price, but the sashimi was great!
I had to write this after I saw the last reviewer's subject line. Sushi King is not the best sushi in town. It is not even close by far. Anyone who thinks this is QUALITY sushi is sadly mistaken and have never had authentic sushi. The quality offered here is equivalent to any All you can eat restaurant, expect they offer larger portions.
Having said that, this place is a good place as an alternative for fast food. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are huge. For like 10-15 bucks you will be stuffed as much as AYCE places. This place is about VALUE, not QUALITY.
If you want quality and don't want to break the bank, go to Ajisai in Kerrisdale or Sushi Hachi in Richmond. Sushi Hachi is an especially good place to eat sushi, as it offers a similar freshness as that I found at the Tsukiji Fish Market in Japan. (For those who been there, you will know what I mean).
I have been going to Sushi King for a few years now and would not go anywhere else! The food is simple amazing!!! Its not too expensive so you totally get you moneys worth, while filling you sushi craving. Teh service is is generally good, not the best but worth coming back. BUT buyer beware they do not accept debit or credit..cash ONLY!
