Small sushi restaurant with a few tables. We ordered some salmon nigiri, a chicken don and a dinner bento box. For $1.25, the salmon nigiri was fresh and lots of fish. Very similar to the ones you get at Sushi Garden. The bento box was a good value for just under $10. It was a standard meal with chicken teriyaki, miso soup, rice, salad, and tempura. Tempura was very fresh and hot when we received it. The only disappointing item was the $6 chicken don. It was only chicken with no vegetables. The chicken was crispy and tasted great, but it just felt like there was someting missing when all I was eating was chicken and rice.
Service was good. Server came by to refill on tea, gave updates on our food status, and gave our bill promptly when requested. Standard pricing for this type of food. Ambiance is like many Japanese sushi restaurants. Wooden tables and chairs. The place was clean. A bit on the cramp side as there isn't much space between the tables.
Tonight, three friends and I were walking down Kingsway looking to get some sushi - a couple of us had eaten here before and had a good meal, so we figured we'd hit it again. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed when we reached it. We were disappointed, but turned to leave and find another place. To our surprise, as we began to step away, the owner of the restaurant walked up and asked "Did you want sushi? I'll open up the restaurant just for you." He had apparently passed us on the sidewalk as we were walking there and saw us try the door. He opened the restaurant after closing just for us and served us an entire meal by himself - a meal that was fantastic, I might add. We were downright flabbergasted! I know for sure that I'll be eating here every time I'm in the area from here on out. The prices are exceptionally reasonable as well - just over thirty dollars for four individual meals, an appetizer, and drinks. If you're in the area, I recommend supporting this business, because I've never had service that friendly and exceptional!
The seafood combo I have ordered was good. The prices are reasonable. But what makes this place stand out is the friendly owner. He went out of his way to make me feel comfortable. He was very attentive to my needs - constantly refilling my tea without asking.
Thumbs up for making the customers feel like family.
