Some unfair reveiews

I've been times and enjoyed it each time. And the fries are wicked. Always fresh potatoes freshly cooked and plenty of them. My only complaint is they don't melt the cheese on your burger. Its shredded cheese and they just put it on your bun. A real cheeseburger needs the cheese to be melted. Other than that its really a good place for an inexpensive bite.

Now I don't have to drive to Whistler

Went by Main street recently and was pleasantly surprised to see that Splitz Grill opened a new location in Vancouver. Apparently they just opened last week.

I've enjoyed their mouth-watering lamb burgers whenever I was in Whistler. This time I decided to try the vegetarian lentil burger. The patty was huge. There were so many toppings to choose from. I chose the hummus (chickpea) and baba ganoush (eggplant) sauces. The burger was so big that I almost couldn't fit it into my mouth. Not only that, but the burger smelled good and tasted even better. The Indian-inspired spices in the lentil patty played off well with the two sauces I chose. I can't wait to try their other burgers, now that I don't have to spend hours on a winding road filled with construction to go to their Whistler location.

The restaurant is clean (obviously, as it's less than a week old). Since it's a burger joint, it obviously doesn't have the ambiance of a nicely decorated special occasion restaurant. Nonetheless, it is very comfortable (hence the 3 stars for ambiance). Although it is not sit-down restaurant service (and I wouldn't expect that from a burger joint), the people behind the counter (including the owner) are friendly and polite. (I would have given 4 for service if it was a sit-down restaurant.)

Best burger that comes to mind

Do not pay attention to any of the average reviews because you will find one of the best burgers you've had if you come here. Sure the ambiance and service are functional, but this is a place to come if you want a helluva burger. You can tell the beef grade is top notch and my wife loves the chicken burger. Add to the fact of having a huge choice of very high quality (and unique) toppings and you can't complain. Love it.

This set up might work in Whistler....

I will say the burgers are good but the fries and salads are not. Stay away from the Greek salad - it tasted like Kraft Italian dressing with sugar on it. The fries are alright but certainly not worthy of praise.
The atmosphere is definitely the "I've just come off the ski hill and want to eat". Even the attitude of the staff is very much "get em in, get em out". For the money, there are better places within walking distance of here.

A burger craving...this place isn't it
By ballin_eater of Vancouver (34 Reviews)

This is the second time being here, the first time was a year ago with a friend when we finished climbing the grind it was ok experience. Had a craving and wanted a burger an milkshake, kinda regretted not driving to new west for a better burger.

Food: Ordered the regular splitz burger with an expresso coffee milkshake. The burger, very nice and juicy and was on par with vera's, the bun however not so good, it was a teeth shattering hard kaiser bun (presumibly not fresh), the toppings, NEVER get the lettuce as it was turning brown but tomatoes, onions pickles were fine.

Service: very efficient, as the cook (looks like the manager) made my food and came over to deliver to my table. Was during lunch time and it wasn't too busy. I would say it is pretty attentive.

Value: Here's the thing, I know it is supposed to be quality over quantity if you rate it over fast food joints but the price is pretty steep for what I ordered so quality does come at a big price. The damage came at $12 and I didn't even order a combo.

Overall: If I had the same money to dine at this place or a fast food place, i'd have better food and have change back to the fast food joint. So no, i would not recommend if you have coins in your pocket itching to come out. 2.5 out of 5

Gotta love a week day special

Was driving down Main St. Last week and noticed a week day lunch special for burgers. $3.95 for a spicy lentil or beef burger. The burgers are made to order with a variety of toppings. I ordered the spicy lentil with humus, splitz sauce, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber and extra pickles. It was yummy! The lentil patty was so large that is was hanging out of the bun. The comdo of favours worked well together. Can't beat the price for lunch under $4.50! I'll be back and bring some others along.

Nothing like the Whistler Splitz
By Joe and Traci of Vancouver (Fairview) (6 Reviews)
Submitted Wednesday, December 7, 2011 - 6:51pm [Dine in]

Looking for the best burger joint in Vancouver is a challenge. My Wife and I LOVED Splitz in Whistler, so this should have been a no brainer. Unfortunately, to our dismay, the Main Street location is terrible!

We were greeted politely, but could barely hear anything being said to us as there were a few guys making enough noise to irritate children on a playground. Once our order was done we added our toppings (as per the norm) and waited in anticipation of what was to come our way.

First bite was ok, then it deteriorated from there. My Bison burger tasted like char and Traci's wrap and the chicken in it carried what appeared to be yesterday's greasy burger bits from the grill top. It even tasted like grill top bits from the day before! The bacon was no different and the fries looked like greasy little bits from the bottom of the fryer! I'll remember not to tip before the food comes again! I was considering asking for the 12% tip back after the terrible food they provided. Maybe that's just what you get there when you show up between lunch and dinner.

Seriously NOT IMPRESSED at all, and we'll never be going back to that burger joint! I'd much rather drive to Whister to experience the delicous burgers at Splitz there (where obviously they have pride in the product they serve - and they were a lot of fun to chat with as well)!

One of the best in town

This is one of my favorite burger joints on this side of town. The meat is very tasty and you get to choose the sauces and ingredients. I like their burgers better Vera's and Fat Burger.

My favorite is the Italian Sausage Burger and the Legendary. I always get them with the splitz sauce. The food is consistantly good and I know what I'm getting. The fries are always fresh and I don't mind the 5 minute wait knowing the food is fresh.

The burgers here are just fantastic. Grab one with the splitz sauce and whatever else you can fit in your mouth and you're good to go.

Value's OK, I don't have too much of a problem with it, because you know there's quality stuff goin in.

Make sure you get here hungry, because a full meal with a burger, fires, and drink should definitely leave you satisfied.

Check out the one in Whistler too, that's where I first heard about it.

Decent burger if you can handle the horrible service

When it comes to the food, the closest comparison would be Vera's. A delicious, sloppy burger with high quality ingredients ( for its fast food class, anyways ).

However, Splitz fries are where they lose the battle. Very thick fries need to be double fried for the right amount of time to avoid a starchy undercooked texture in the core. They either don't know about, or bother with this level of detail.

Service was as bad as it gets. My order didn't include the combo I ordered, an honest mistake. I mentioned it to the cooks who set me up with some fries and a drink, and kindly said not to worry about the couple bucks.

Unbelievably, after I sat down, the woman who took the order in the first place ( who I presume is the owner by the way she spoke to the staff ) proceeded to come by and grill me like a criminal, accusing me of trying to sneak a free combo! After some words, the true story came to light and instead of apologizing, she actually kept ranting, justifying her own hostility and made me get up and pay the lousy two dollars!

Even though the burger was pretty good, I won't be back.

I have been home now for about a month after visiting one of my close friends in Vancouver. One night while we were determining where we should eat she suggested the Splitzgrill. So we went there and i ordered a Free Range Bison Burger with some fries onthe side honestly it was the best burger i have ever eaten and the fries were delicious as well. I can see why its the only place my friends will eat burgers. I HIGHLY recommend you to try the food. You won't be sorry !!!

Tried Splitz finally, after driving by it hundreds of times. Went in and ordered a Sausage burger and fries, plus a milkshake for about 15$. I thought this price was pretty darn high for a restaurant that didn't even offer sit-down service, and also compared to the other burger joints out there. Got my burger dressed how I like it and it was tasty, but the bun was unrecognizable by the time I got half way through the burger. Definitely grab a large handful of napkins before you start one of these. I think they put too much milk in my milkshake, but the taste was pretty good.

The fries were tasty, but every single one looked like it had been broken in half. I had no fries that were regular size. The smaller ones were over done as well. Get the splitz sauce for dipping them and it will make up for it though.

The reason that I won't be going back to Splitz is because of how unbearably loud it is in the restaurant. Voices seem to bounce around and get amplified by all the hard objects in side. I don't think they had any music on or anything. Not my kind of environment.

All in all I'd say the place is overpriced for what you get seems a little pretentious in its presentation.

Well, was walking by and thought what the heck, lets try one of there burgers.

I should have known, small burger, lots of bun .... thats about it for me...

I like the other way around: more burger then bun, with a soft bun, cheddar cheese dripping out, nice fried onions and a gluten free option would be great

farmed salmon?
By tender of vancouver (11 Reviews)
Submitted Monday, November 10, 2008 - 5:12pm [Dine in]

After eating my unremarkable 'bc' teriyaki burger i made the grave mistake of inquiring fresh or farmed & was sadly informed it was the evil latter. Ugh, i'm going to rot in hell & die of cancer that much faster. For $9.25 at a local gourmet burger joint, i expected better. My friend had 2 beef burgers and rated them a step up from mickey d's. Buns are standard factory crap. Toppings nothing special but a few creative sauces including baba ganoush. Crisp but greasy fries. Service was friendly & fast. Condiment containers needed cleaning. Place was freezing & they're discontinuing the retro small glass-bottled coke. Shoulda tried the lentil burger but seeing as how i won't be back that's not gonna happen. Disappointing especially based on all the raves.

Well my wife and I finally made it in to there new location on Main this Weekend, and I have to say, outstanding in every way.

I dont know what they put in the burgers, but they are sooo good, I like the way you get to dress your burger the way you like it, the toppings are fresh, and the splitz sauce is really good!!

The fries were also good, fresh cut with the skins, and nice and crispy, we also had a milkshake that was thick and delish.

Service is friendly, the cooks actually appear to enjoy there jobs, and where quite helpful with suggestions.

The place definetly has the feel of a burger joint, it is not full service, there was a bit of a lineup when we arrived, but the setup really flows nicely, and it is a cool, different experience.

Definetly worth a visit

Splitz Is Itz

Okay so burger joints, love them and there is more than enough here in Vancool to choose from. Splitz rates at the top 5 of my list and that’s saying a lot.

I know were this place is I swear, course every time I go there for a burger fix I’m having to do a U turn because I always miss it for some weird reason, don’t ask me why just happens.

It’s on Main and 27th kids! ,

Little tip: park on 27th about a block up, no permits, free parking, this area fills up pretty fast so get in there.

The joint: The atmosphere is simple with wooden booths, clean bathrooms (important), open grill for you to watch the cook to their thang . However it’s nothing to spectacular, but in truth let the food be the wow factor not the pad.

Food: Simple, just place you order at the front, there is lots to choose from in the way of burgers and they offer the combos which is a good thingy, great shakes. I like the dress your own concept, and the fact they call you by name. Ingredients were fresh and there was no slop or cross mixing of sauces or vegetables. The taste of the burgers was awesome, awesome, the only thing I would say is have a little democracy with the BBQ sauce, make it an option not a forcible ingredient. Overall the burgers were well cooked, juicy and infused with good flavour. I love how you can stack it up, I would recommend their caramelized onions, num num. Definitely go outside the box and try there wild side selections , especially the Bison burger if cow is not for you. Fries were meh , yes meh fries , not saying it was bad not saying it was phantasmagoric either, I just like a certain type of fry.

Service: Was great the people were just good hearty folk that love burgers,
and it doesn’t get any better than that. All staff seem to be cheery, no downers, dorks od dickheads .

Value: Is decent for what you pay for a quality moo moo sandwich

The verdict

Overall I dig, I can see myself going here many times because it’s very consistent which I feel is integral to any successful joint of this calibre, and If you no like well you don’t know burgers or your just an idiot.

The staff is friendly and polite. I will definitely go back to this place when I am in the mood to eat burger and will recommend it to others as well.

Best Burgers Around, no question, try the lamb!
By 40something of Vancouver BC (9 Reviews)
Submitted Thursday, May 29, 2008 - 5:08pm [Dine in]

I was a little surprised to see a burger place open on main and frankly a little skeptical.
I ended up being pleasantly surprised.

I gave 3 stars because the food is (as the stars say) "solid". Can you really have an outstanding burger? Well, I'll say for less than 10 bucks this is a great burger. I think this is as good as it gets. As another reviewer said, better than WhiteSpot and better than Vera's. The fries are WAY better than Vera's! And do you really need to be reminded of the utter sad lameness of the chains who shall not be named.

Ambience is like, you guested it, a burger place.

Burgers are big.Toppings are put on to your taste, like at subway. Lots of very fresh looking veggies and hoummus, bagaganoush, house sauce and even sprouts available. No skimping by the servers, like having a side salad on top.

BTW you pay a bit extra for certain toppings like cheese, fried onions, bacon, fried mushrooms.

My burger was lamb with fried onions (with baba and tomatoes, onions) YUM!!!
Others had the regulars with cheese and without, they were good too.

You will leave full! Now my first choice, and only, choice for burgers!

Thank god a Splitz Grill has opened up here in Vancouver. A trip to Whistler for me was always incomplete without a stop at the Splitz Grill for one of their burgers.

What can I say, I believe that they blow Vera's and Fatburger out of the water even though I still think their burgers aren't too bad. The patties are always nice and juicy and done just right, toppings fresh and the splitz sauce just tops it all off.

Try it out, I'm sure you won't be disapointed!
