ummmm!!! i am not that foody person but if i have to write about a restaurant where i love to go and dine in or just do numerous take outs would be my number one, newly opened "SPICE UP exclusive indian restaurant" at main street..my happening area..first,i thought that the indian food would be heavy and could upset my belly but after trying their dishes,i am not afraid to try more and more...i am happy because it didn't bother my belly..the food was fresh and delicious!!!..they say that they make everything fresh to keep that natural flavour of the food and yesss!! i felt that too..oevrall,nice,small family, place to go..i am definitely going back!!!..what about you??..cheers!!!
This little place is a really great addition to the hood. I have been 3-4 times and have ordered take out 5 or 6 times, and each time I have never been disappointed. All of the dishes are fresh, absolutely delicious and not too overwhelming with heat- you can actually taste the many spices in the dishes. They now have a liquor license which they didn't have when they first opened. The last time I was there it was pretty quiet, so why not take the rellies there over the holidays and give the turkey sammiches a break for a day? If I could, I would eat my way through the menu!
I have lived in the neighborhood for 15+ years and always notice and am interested when i see new restaurants or shops. Spice Up is perfect for main street as we haven't had any great indian restaurants and let me tell you...they are GREAT. I ordered for pick-up and didn't wait a long time. I had the butter chicken with an order of rice and the veg pakoras. The butter chicken was actually really light and lovely. Even though it is one of my favorites, I don't eat it very often because i find it too heavy. But this really was light but packed with flavor at the same time. Rice-perfect. And the pakoras were crispy on the outside but nice and soft in the middles and the sauce...oooh the sauce! Beautiful. The ONLY thing i can say is that the portion size for the pakoras with a littttle on the small side. I left my number when ordering, and one of the owners actually called me to see if i liked the food and honestly wanted feedback. The couple that have opened this little place are super sweet and they deserve to have a successful restaurant...not because they are sweet, but because the food really is beautiful!
Spice Up has big shoes to fill, as it occupies the former home of Legendary Noodle, a neighbourhood favorite. The sweet young couple behind Spice Up have a lot on their side, though. They are earnest and keen to hear feedback on their new venture. They seemed to take great pride in not cutting corners on quality and they tell me they hand-select all their spices, and create the food in small batches. I ordered out for my family of four (although they do have a small cute eat-in space. The butter chicken was delicious. I will double order next time - I think the serving was designed for two, not four. The Aaloo Matar (potatoes and peas) was absolutely excellent. The potatoes had a lovely texture, wondering if they were oven baked before going in the sauce. Rice with saffron and peas good too. We also ordered the vegetable samosas. They were quite spicy and the pastry deep fried coating yummy. I was a bit surprised they contained mostly potato, as opposed to a mixture of veg. So as long as you are in the mood for spicy potato, you're set. Next time we will try eating in. This is a good fit for the Main Street neighbourhood.
