The Speakeasy is a new pub on Davie Street with a large patio and lots of flat screen TVs for watching the big game.
My company took part in the Sun Run this year, and the Speakeasy on Davie was where one of our staff arranged for us to head after the race. Let me tell you, if I could suddenly turn back time, going back to stop us from going there would be high on my list of things to do.
We arrived, and it wasn't very busy. Less than half capacity I'd say. It started with the people sitting next to me trying to flag down the waitress......made eye contact several times, and they even waved at them, but it was not until five minutes later that we were even given a menu.
It didn't take long to figure out things weren't right. We noticed some people at another table looking annoyed and impatient.....they had clearly been there far longer than us and were yet to receive their food. We were all starving after the run, and time kept ticking on by as we got grumpier and grumpier as our blood sugar tanked.
No exaggeration, I believe it was about 90 minutes before we got our food. And we ordered BRUNCH. Eggs, toast, hashbrowns, bacon....that sort of thing. 90 minutes.......it gets better.
The food was lukewarm. Otherwise it tasted pretty good, but no one likes getting cold food. Just as we were all starting to chow down after the long, long wait......the guy sitting across from me holds up a piece of his bacon. The end of it was covered in eggshells.
You can't make this stuff up.
Long story short, the service was terrible, the food was mediocre and it was just a bad, bad experience all around. We'll go out of our way to tell people about it, it was that bad. The one ray of sunshine was the fact that after the inexplicable cold shoulder to start, the waitresses were very good and I'm sure they are at the mercy of this terrible kitchen on a regular basis.......
Maybe we just caught them on a bad day.....but maybe not. Go at your own risk. Maybe they'll get some more reviews here and the real picture will emerge.
I want make it short:
Service was good ,even though , it was busy. The sever was not at our table all the time, but she was good with the details. No mistake at all.
Ambiance is K , nothing special, I prefer Earl's or Cactus , they have a better space ....
Oh man, the food is crappy . I ordered a vegi burger and my friend ordered a normal burger. It was so dry that you needed to drink water after each bite . The bun looked like , they bought them from Costco. You dont believe me just go and try them next time. I dont like earl or Cactus but they have fresh food always not matter the service isnt good if you say so. The side fries, I had , they were cold , broken in small pieces, I think you consider mcdonalds food way better than this place.
End of story , go for drink , not for food, they charged sometimes for cover, so if you expect something normal go to somewhere else NOT HERE.
I was part of a party of 11 that decided to have dinner at Speak Easy on Davie Street. This was the worst dining experience ever! It started from the minute we where walked in the door and was greeted by the host, unwelcoming right from the start. It was busy this particular night, as they where broadcasting a pay per view wrestling match on t.v.
We all received our first drinks, and when the waiter came back to take our dinner order, he explained that they where busy and he apologized in advance for anything that may happen! He continued to take our appetizer and dinner orders. As it was busy, we did expect the food order to take a little longer, especially since where we a larger party and the restaurant was full. It was about an hour later, when the food finally started to arrive at the table. The first 5 orders came to the table, the waiter left, we assumed that he had gone to get the remaining orders. By this time we had still not received the appetizer that was ordered with the dinners (as the waiter wanted to take the app. order and dinner order at the same time.) We continued to wait for the remaining dinners and they still had not arrived at the table. We continued to wait and watch our friends finish their dinner they had ordered. It was about 30 minutes after the first orders had arrived to the table and the remaining dinner had not arrived to the table. By this time, we had still not received our appetizers and the dinner plates where being cleared!
We got up and asked to speak to a manager, and the waiter said that he would go and get the owner. We waited and he did not arrive. We had to get up and find the owner, and to our surprise, he was the unwelcoming host the front door when we first arrived. After explaining to him that half of our party had received their dinners, eaten them and their plates where cleared and the other half had not even received our appetizers. He said that the food would be out shortly, he blamed the table for the fact that the orders where not all together and that his was our fault. When in fact the server had taken the orders together, and how the server advised the kitchen was out of our control, and it was their "problem."
We told him that this was unacceptable, and something needs to be done. In a defensive tone, he said "what would you like me to do?", as if this was our problem. He was told he need to do something, he offered to buy shooters for the people that did not get there food, and we said that he should buy a round of drinks for the table. He said that he would have to check the bill, the server then came to the table and said that he would buy drinks for the guests that had to wait for their dinners. 3 of the 6 where drinking water and pop! The appetizer that was order over an hour ago did come with the dinners, and the waiter did offer to take them off the bill.
When everyone was finished their dinners, then it was time for the bills, they there where errors made on the bills, and when we asked another waitress if she could please find our server, he response was "don't talk to me like that", when we had asked if she could find our server. After about 10 minutes we finally got our bill, paid them and left the restaurant. This was by far the worst experience we have received in any restaurant, and none of us would ever return back to spend our money. If you want to go out and get abused by the staff and management, go to the Elbow Room Cafe, you know what you are getting into, and they do it with some tacked!
Seems like speakeasy has no concept of what a good restaurant should be ?
Their staff are rude ! Cooks are cluelss !
Food is bad !
No management exists !
No one one want to take responsibilty about the worst bar and grill that exists !
I just wonder if the owners even read the reviews ? I doubt it.
STOP GOING TO SPEAKEASY !!
