Simply Thai serves authentic Thai dishes in Yaletown.
Happened to walk by and decided to try it out. I was very disappointed. There were only 3 other couples in the restaurant, but still took 40 mins to make a simply entree. The food was average to below average for a thai food.
1 entree, 1 appy and 3 drinks split between 2 people cost $70. Are you kidding? Not for that quality. It's also ridiculous that they dont include any rice in their entrees, and charge $4 per bowl.
This was my third visit to the restaurant. Despite the bad reviews for this restaurant, I think it has taken a 180degree turn around in terms of service level since the summertime. The servers are more attentive and quick to please from what I saw. The Asian male server especially was very attentive and really tried to please our family. He spent time making light & witty conversation, if not giving us great service in the backdrop of loud diners and busy-ness in the restaurant. He suggested a great wine for our meal in regards to pairing a Gewurtz with our curry dishes. So good! We had a great experience and will definitely come back again.
I went to Simply Thai a few times, but stopped because I couldn't stand the service anymore. The servers are definitely snobby. If they don't think you have a fat wallet they won't even be courteous to you. At my last visit I went with a fellow student and we were dressed casually in jeans and hoodies. Little did the waitress know that I had a pricey Gucci bag behind me. So, with the waitress thinking we're poor, she barely talked to us even though she passed by the area many times to check on adjacent tables. At one point she was refilling water and refilled the water for tables on either side of us, but completely ignored us. The food used to be okay, but at my last visit the fried foods had a metallic taste and I suspect they desperately needed to change the frying oil. The food is overpriced and the service stinks. I wouldn't go back!
I went here last night and was sorely disappointed. The restaurant looked okay, but the techno elevator music was horrible and made the place seem like it was trying too hard to be hip. We ordered the pad thai and the #25 which was some sweet and sour chicken/pineapple combo. The only saving grace was the jasmine rice. Everything else was overly salted and not very good. I love thai food but found the quality of the food very disappointing. I've had better Thai food in a mall food court.
Went for dinner with my wife....a brief romantic respite from the two kids...or so I thought.....
We ordered the pad thai, prawn with basil leaf and a beef salad.
The pad thai was forgettable and the beef was really tough. The prawn with basil was the best. The server was all attitude and seemed very irate with us. However, when we complained about the beef, she did take the effort to check with the kitchen and was apologetic about the unedible beef....saying the supplier had sent a bad batch....I don't think I will be back.
The wine list is fairly extensive. They have a nice selection varied enough to pair with each of their menu items. The food is delectable and varied. My friend and I went with rather safe selections (pad thai, green curry, and ginger beef starting off with spring rolls) which proved to be good choices. Presentation was creative and thoughtful.
The service overall was good. They took a little time to sit a party of eight in front of us, but once they were seated, we were helped out very quickly. Our server was friendly and paced things out fairly well. If you have a party of 6-8, I'd suggest getting a reservation so they can sort out the seating before you arrive.
Walking into the place, I felt comfortable. The place was clean. Decor is subtle but seemingly authentic. In all, it was a nice, relaxing place in Yaletown to rest yourself after a nice stroll.
Be warned, though, that this is pricier than your average Thai restaurant. That aside, if you're willing to let go of more dollars, give it a spin and you'll have a good time.
Not only was the food mediocre, but the service was very poor also. When we found a live wasp in our dish, our server asserted that it didn't come from the kitchen but rather flew in afterwards. She didn't even offer to bring us a new dish, although another server did (we declined). She didn't apologize, didn't offer us free dessert, and charged us full price on the bill. When we asked for a voucher for our next visit (we needed some incentive to want to return), she instead gave us a measly 10% discount on our meal, which took forever for her to process. I won't be returning to Simply Thai - unless I want to experience a surprise guest in my food!
We have been going to this restaurant since it opened and tonight was the worst, we ordered the prawns, (special) they were something you could buy in a box from Costco. Then the pad thai which was good, just sat in the kitchen too long so it was cold, the pork and green bean stir fry - the pork was like shoe leather, told the waitress ( who actually was nice and friendly) and suggested she tell the chef to make us a pork dish that was tender - guess what we got chicken, she didn't bother to tell us that and I don't like chicken, which is why we ordered pork in the first place. Will be a long time before I go back.
I totally agree with the other reviews. I went there on a Friday night - it was not busy- the first sign. We were greeted by a nice host who happened to be Caucasion. But the Thai servers were extremly rude. No smile, No service - ie waters service, rudeness. The Pad Thai has a bad coating of Ketchup. The Spinach was okay - but it was swimming in Soy Sauce. No matter how pretty the Orchids were, they can not mask the bad table service we had. Whe we paid the Bill - No thank-you. It was like they were happy to get rid of us. Don't go
This restaurant has everything to be perfect but they just do everything wrong.
I liked the food but seriously I will never come back: we were asked to leave because they needed the table.
Never a smile and each and every time, the waitress are just so rude!
One time for lunch she was yelling to one of the other waitress in front of the customer.
They don't deserve to be in the the top restaurant of vancouver.
If the owner is reading this review, I have to tell you something: just change business if you don't like to serve people!
I'll make this straight and to the point.
-we were not seated by the hostess, she pointed us at a table and we sat ourselves.
-we had to wait 20 minutes to put in a drink order
-we had to ask about 20 times for water refills
-we asked one waitress and she pointed to ours and said "ask her"
-our waitress was rude the whole time
-we had reservations a month and a half in advance for our group of girls (there for a stagette) and when we finished our meal the waitress ASKED US TO LEAVE(not so nicely) because people were waiting to be seated. People who did not have reservations.
-the food was mediocre and horribly overpriced.
-oh, and of COURSE the manager was not in on a busy Saturday night when we asked for him upon leaving.
