The Sea House is a fish and chips restaurant that serves English style fish and chips. Cash only.
This is a no-fuss, no-muss kind of place, very basic tables and chairs, where you go to the counter and order your food from Mom or maybe Pop, a couple of friendly but a bit aloof old Chinese people who act like they've been together their whole lives. The fish is fresh, and you get a lot of food as part of a low-priced lunch special. And that's really about it. Their clam chowder and fries, the salt and pepper shakers, the service counter, might remind you of a Kingsway diner from another era. In no way will it be a mistake to at least give this place a try for lunch.
Came here on the recommendation of friends.
The place is pretty quiet and easy to miss along the busy Kingsway corridor. Lots of seating space and typical decor of your "hole in the wall" restaurant. Had the lunch special (12 to 3pm) which is basically a small menu item (fish burger, hamburger, one piece cod and fries) plus a pop or soup for an extra $0.50.
I had the fish burger with fries and clam chowder - great deal at $5.00 total. Portion size was HUGE. Fish batter was light and fluffy and burger was fully dressed with fried onions, tomato, and mayo and tartar sauce on the side. Clam chowder was similar to those of other fish and chip places. Didn't care much for the fries though - found them kind of dry.
All in all a great value!
