Located right at the entrance to the historic Granville Island this location features a beautiful waterfront patio, an inviting horseshoe bar and is within walking distance of all the great shops the island has to offer.
Some friends and I decided to try coming back here for the playoff game since we were unlucky last time. Greeted happily at the door we did get some patio seating after moving around the room a few times, though after settling in the service went to null..for a while. Sitting there waiting for a waitress to stop at our table, we couldn't help but notice that the waitresses waited on tables all over the room, and not by their assigned section. I was wondering why there were 4 different waitresses bussing all our neighbouring tables and not one of the at least half dozen who walked by our table asked if we wanted some service. After a 30 minute wait and feeling like segregated I decided to try my hand at flagging down a waitress waiting on a neighbouring table. FINALLY! She tried to find our original server but alas she ended up bussing us the rest of the night, and did a great job to bump my service rating to them to decent. She was the highlight of the night, and this includes the horrible game.
We ordered finger foods all the way: calamari, steak bites, flatbread, wings and artichoke dip. The wings were the unanimous favourite among all of us but nearly each dish was unusually heavy on the salt. The steak bites, the only properly seasoned item there, was a ripoff and the artichoke dip was on the runny side, its consistency like it had been sitting in the sun for a few hours.
Great vibe, loud but not overbearing, with everyone hooting and hollering at the Canucks breaking our hearts. Patio space is along the boardwalk while the inside doesn't look as good cosmetically compared to its rivals.
It ranks well below average, with this location being a definite disappointment.
Went for Drinks after concert as I wanted to show some people from out of town this Granville hot spot and was greeted with the best service I have ever had. There were a total of 8-10 people in the place, which makes sense as it was a Tuesday night, and the service was very caring. The lady serving us was super cute and kind. No attitude from the hostess who I am sure is placed there to interact with customers because of her natural disposition.Food had a good kick. I think we have sent away several good ambassadors for Vancouver.
Went her for a late dinner with a group of friends and not expecting anything good based on previous experiences. However it was a good surprise. Mabye because I stuck to the burger versus anything complicated. A very good mushroom burger with a good size patty and nice bun. I never put much thought into the bun, but this was really good. Fries were average. Tried the rice bowl previously and it was just OK. Would go back but stick to the basics. Very good service where all drinks were refilled, re-order promptly. Nice bar area for sports watching.
After a quick tip from a friend we decided to check out the Granville location of Sammy J Pepper'snext to the water and short walk from the parking facility. The entrance was a bit hidden as it's in the middle of the building removed from the hustle and bustle of the island.
We walked in and saw the restaurant laid out inside the entrance. The interior space is very nice, quiet and calming. What immediately proved true was the quality of the waitresses and their uniforms. This was great to see. And when I sy quality I mean quality. I don't know if that is a chain wide improvvement ot just the people in downtown get treated better us in the suburbs.
The food is good and sizzling hot. The taste buds were aflame with the chicken and rice dish. But the portions are poor. That is the worse part. I didn't feel there was enough food on the plate. Too bad. Still, I tipped hot for the hot leggy waitress.
If ever there were a restaurant run for the benefit of staff, this is it. Loud music, obviously chosen to please those who work here, indifferent food (by that I mena nothing to write home about) and staff who couldn't care less if you are there or not. Nice location, though.
Having never been, we thought we'd meet for dinner. The initial greeting was normal, but after the round of pop & water arrived it went downhill from there. Our blonde/red headed server just dropped our food on the table, never said anything, never quality checked, and despite walking by our table on the way to the kitchen, had to be stopped to ask for refills. The food was a step above dissapointing. The Big plates had what looked like a half order of fries on it, which raises an eyebrow. The yam fries and sandwich were soggy. The Fajitas were just warm. The Seafood melt, a short while after being consumed, caused a hurried trip to the washroom a short while after leaving. The server as she was passing by, took plates from the table without saying anything. When we paid the bill she swooped in and took the folder, only to find about $2 for a tip. She asked if there was a problem we didn't say much to which she then asked if we were from around here. We just left. NEVER to return !
A friend and I went to this location of Sammy J's recently and have nothing but rave reviews about the waitress and the staff. We ordered our entrees - she had the Chicken Stir-fry with some added hot peppers and I had the Sweet Chili Chicken Rice Bowl. And for our appetizer we decided to share the Hot Wings - which we requested to be crispy, not "gooey", without too much sauce. The waitress (Amy) put in our appetizer order and returned very quickly with our drinks. After waiting about 15 minutes, our waitress returned and informed us that the wings had come up but that she felt they were not crispy enough and had sent them back and that the order would be another 10 minutes. We were amazed that she had done this, as most places would have served them as cooked by their kitchen staff. After another 10 minutes, the wings were delivered and we found that they were absolutely delicious.
The waitress also informed us that she had already put our entree orders in as there was another large party ordering and so she did not want us to wait too long for our meals. This was an incredible foresight on the part of our waitress, and was great for the two of us. Our meals were delivered shortly and again, the food was well presented. The only problem that I found with my meal is that the basmati rice was very salty and I believe had too much butter mixed into it. Otherwise, the food was very good.
When it came time for our bill to be delivered, we were informed by our waitress that due to the long delay of the wings, the cost of the appetizer had been removed from our bill. This was truly impressive as we had not even complained about the delay. So we will both be back to this restaurant to try some of their other meals, and we will make sure to ask for the same waitress.
My family and I had a quick lunch here before heading off to do other touristy stuff. We had chicken sandwiches and a jambalaya; the portions were just right, and the sauces & dressings very tasty. Also, I noted that my salad mix was fresh (no wilted lettace or overripe tomatoes). The server was very nice and checked up on us in good timing; we never felt rushed or abandoned.
It wasn't quite a beautiful day at Granville Island, but the lunch was nice and filling. I wouldn't mind coming back here again.
I think I've travelled back in time. Back to when restaurants in Vancouver were crap, and people accept it. This feels like a retro restaurant, I guess the owners felt that the 80s was the best time in their life.
I had the 'lobster' pasta as they call it. I guess they assume people dont know what lobster really is, so they can get away with putting lonstina meat in and calling it lobster-that is a tacky move that should stop, lagostina is fine, but call it that, dont lie to the customer.
We also shared some wings that were dry, meatless, and boring-how can you screw up something as simple as wings?
The music is cranked to virtual nightclub levels, its impossible to talk in there.
Service is slow, sat with empty glasses most of the time, dont they realise they're losing sales this way?
I knew it was a mistake to dine here, I generally try to avoid the big box chain restaurants, sadly I have friends that follow the masses and insist on going to these places. Luckily they all agreed with me, and unanimously agreed never to return, and advice all our friends to to try.
I went there with my mother and my grandmother for a nice quiet dinner. I was seated beside the windows to the outside, it was gorgeos, all the the areas in that restaurant I would have loved to sit at, beside the outside was very nice, I got a nice view. The hostess (I think-most likely) sat me with a nice welcome and not long later my server came to collect our drink menu's. The server was right on top of us the whole time, and the restaurant was packed for fri. night, I loved her serving us.
The food was excellent prices, we got crispy chicken strips that were excellent, and for dinner I had a monster mushroom melt, and it was fabulous. When we left we had a warm welcome leaving, and I bought one of the hotsauses that were on display at the front.
Overall I found the food excellent and the serving as well, I will definately go there again. The outside padio was heated and looked very cozy, there is a place for everyone, as I saw.
I work near Granville Island and went into this place with a coworker for what I hoped would be a quick, decently priced, sandwich before heading back to work. The service was slow to begin with. When the food finally came, it was TERRIBLE. Worse than even McDonald's - by a longshot. I had the club sandwich, which consists of a barely heated chicken breast, some shredded lettuce, a couple of strips of bacon, and some mayo that had gone bad. Oh yeah and 2 pieces of tomato. My friend ordered a burger and a salad with some fancy "tangerine" dressing that tasted like it was made with orange flavoured lollipops in vinegar and water. Revolting. So we tell our server that my mayo doesnt taste right. Her response is "Well I can get you another one, but it will probably taste the same." Uh huh. OK. I think I'll get another sandwich instead. Which EVENTUALLY came along and was almost as bad as the first one. Really very very low quality. My friend had ordered extra tomatoes - they weren't brought, but we were charged for them. Our waitress could not have cared less that our meals were so bad. She took her sweet time doing everything and was basically like some kind of moronic zombie with no personality or brains whatsoever. Awful food, atrocious service, dirty place, overpriced. Its too bad because the location is quite nice, and convenient for alot of people. But i will never ever even consider setting foot in this place again and I recomment anyone reading this to avoid it as well.
I've eaten here a few times, and have been disappointed with each experience...the food has always been bland-- hot doesn't mean flavourful! the drinks were good, service ok, but unless you're going for the view and patio, skip it
