Family owned Italian restaurant
I've been looking for a Italian restaurant to become a regular of. Roman Ristorante had decent reviews and was nearby where I lived. However, I had a pretty bad feeling that it was a mistake right after I walked in.
Food: I had the lasagna because that's usually the dish I eat on my first visit to any Italian restaurant. It came as 2 large pieces that looked like it was just scooped up and then toss on to the plate. Decorated by a rather large piece of garlic toast. The garlic toast was okay, the lasagna... not so okay. Initially, I thought other people had over exaggerated their use of garlic. However, I had saved the cheese on the lasagna for last, and it was the most garlic filled bite of anything I had ever had. This was one of the few times I had not finished my meal. Lesson here, don't doubt the reviewers.
Service: Our table was fairly close to the counter, but in a small place, it was easy for the server to cover all the table quickly. It did seem nice of the chef to come out and check on his customers, but I just didn't know what to say to him about his food.
Value: Portions were pretty decent sized. If the taste had been better, I would have given a higher rating.
Ambiance: Roman Ristorante had its own charms. It was a small and cozy restaurant. However, this worn out little place desperately needs some new parts. For one, the cutlery and plates had so many scratches, it made me wonder how many years its been since these were taken out of their boxes. Also, the dim lighting that usually makes a place seem classy and more private, made this place more dingy. One last thing was their telephone ringer was set way too high. One ring and all conversations halt.
Overall, Roman Ristorante needs a makeover, and a change of recipes before I would even consider returning.
We were very excited to to try this restaurant after reading the great reviews, however the food was not good. We ordered the rigatoni with pasticciati sauce (meat sauce and cream mixed), the prosciutto pizza, ceasar salad and tiramisu. The pasta sauce had no flavor and we had to salt every bite in order to make it edible. They also didn't give us rigatoni, it was overcooked egg noodles. It reminded me of Chef Boyardee from when I was a kid. The ceasar salad wasn't bad and was the best thing we ordered. The pizza was burnt, soggy and had no cheese on it...very bland and gross. The tiramisu was not edible. I have no idea when it was made, but when we opened the container it was watery and super soggy. It looked like dirty water with whipped cream on the top. Needless to say, we didn't even attempt to eat it. Never again will we order from here, so gross.
Food had no taste. Pizza was under cooked. Almost felt like having dominos. Would not go back or recommend to anyone. For real italian food Roman is not the place. I wish I had gone somewhere else. That's all two cents. Hope this is not too harsh review.

I had my dinner here 2 weeks ago and it was delicious. Big portions and the option to get "oven baked" pasta is really good. Like other reviews I agree with the good value of this restaurant. Definitely a restaurant to return to!
They have a private parking available and you can also park at the big grocery store across the street.
Pick your pasta... pick your sauce... and the chef will mix a dinner that will satisfy the pickiest of pasta connoisseurs...
The staff are friendly... seems to be a family-run place...
Caution... if you don't like garlic, don't bother with Roman's...
Oh, and don't forget order the Misto salad (I hope I got the name right)... it's fresh and the light dressing makes me lick my lips just thinking of it...
I enjoy going to Roman's, The food is always tasty, they are reasonably priced and my family and I always feel welcome. Lunch specials are great with tasty panninis, and pasta specials. Value is good with good portion sizes. Not a fancy establishment by all means, but service and food quality make up for any lack in ambiance.
We decided to try this restaurant, as we were in the neighborhood, and had read the great reviews about this place. Man, was I disappointed.
First of all, the service is very good. Very polite, and personable waiter. The wine selection was very limited, and mainly had very cheap wine ($10.00 Bottle for 1 L in a store) @ $6.00/glass. The prices are very reasonable and the portion size is pretty good. The ambiance is plain, but clean, and very small (seats maybe 15 people). If this place was any good, there would be line-ups everyday considering the size of this place.
The quality of the food is where I experienced the major disappointments. We ordered two complete different types of pasta. Both were VERY BLAND, and were obviously stingy with the ingredients (spices, meat, ect), yet were drowned in sauce (a major no-no to an Italian). I can and have made way better pasta myself. The food is NOT AUTHENTIC at all. The pasta dishes here tasted exactly as if they were thrown together without much thought or care (like eating Pasta at Cactus Club, or somewhere unauthentic like that). The pasta dishes do not come with Garlic Bread, or any other bread or buns. Nice to know after I ordered. The owner and cook not Italian and I wouldn't care about that, but from what I read previously, I expected authentic food. The owner comes out to greet everyone and asks how the food was. Do you really want me to tell you to your face what I thought about your food?
The fact that the owner goes out of his way to ask about the food everytime to all his customers shows the lack of confidence in his cooking, and his knowledge that the food SUCKS (pardon my french).
All of the customers were people that obviously know nothing about Italian food. They all liked the food, but were most likely used to eating Chef Boyardee. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Anton's is 10 times better, and only 2 dollars more and at least at Anton's you get bread (unlimited) with your meal. The food at Anton's for example has tons of flavour, unlike this "restaurant."
In closing, I am pretty upset with the past reviews saying that this place has great food and it's authentic. You people are so ignorant, it's unbelievable, and thanks to your useless reviews, I wasted my money here, and was greatly disappointed with the food.
