I take clients out to lunch often and Cactus Club is usually a safe bet (it's like a super duper high class McDonalds). This time we tried the Rogue instead and it was quite ok. Good things first, the staff appear to be well trained. I was cheerfully greeted and sat at the table of my choice without any attitude. Service was prompt, courteous and not over the top coquettish. No stiletto heels, yeah, a waitress with common sense! Drinks were reasonablly priced. A decent glass of wine for $5, even better for a little more. Nice selection of beer. Appies were good, sushi bombs were a little kitschy but tasty nonetheless. Lobster Mac n Cheese, sounds better than it is. The combo of lobster, pasta, cheese is just too rich, I really should've known better than to have that at lunch time. Excellent espresso. The only bad thing is that it seems like the same designer went around town dispensing this formulaic look to these places. Rogue, Browns, Earls, Cactus, Keg...they all look the same although some places dim their lights more than others. Also, I found this location to be very loud, not ideal especially for a business lunch. Still, it was not too bad, so I'll be back for more.
Thai Beef Salad - $16.99 (3/5)
Salad! With Noodles! That’s a first. Good for people who are craving salads but want more because salad’s aren’t usually filling. Bad for people who are trying to avoid the carbs. The sirloin was absolutely delicious, the avocado gave this salad a nice touch, and there needs to be more lotus root chips.
Had this been our first time at this establishment, our first impression would probably be to pass for the future. However, this wasn’t our first time. We will definitely be going back as they don’t serve the typical burgers/pasta dishes. We’ll just get something else other than this dish.
I came here with a friend at about 2 - 3pm on a Thursday. We had a really great server who was super nice, really helpful with the menu and eager and friendly. He offered us beer samplers when my date couldn't choose a beer, he was quick to go ask the kitchen how the mussels were being made that day, and he was really knowledgeable about the other menu items.
We had the albino prawn and scallop ceviche to start - it was so yummy! Lovely flavor and tender shrimp, and it came with delicious taco chips. For entrees, we had the lobster mac and cheese - the lobster was yummy, I liked the big chunks in there but the pasta itself wasn't really anything special. We also had mussels which were on special that day - they were really good - FULL of flavor, they came with pieces of bacon and were just really good. I thought to the eye, all the dishes looked small, but they were in fact perfect portion sizes for two people to share each dish.
We had a table with a view of Broadway and the sidewalk - it was an okay view to look at, nothing super special. I found the place got really noisy, and the decor was kind of different, in a funky kind of way, but I didn't think it was really a good place for a date - kind of misleading because when you look at the outside of the restaurant, it looks really fancy and elegant, and I just didn't really like it when I got inside.
Just had to make a quick review as i feel they deserve they kudos
