Located on the Corner of Howe and Nelson, Relish features a modest menu that includes North American, Mediterranean and West Coast cuisines with a full wine list.
Really like coming here for the top notch food, and the cool lounge located next door. Usually go for appies like the wonton stack and the cranberry baked brie in phyllo, but had the walnut crusted salmon this time, and it was delicious as well. A consistently good, solid restaurant.
It was a friends birthday and she decided to celebrate at Relish. I have been once to this restaurant before long time ago. We were waiting for a few more people to arrive so when our server asked if we wanted to start off with some drinks, we said we wanted to wait for the rest of the party. Since our party was running late, we decided to order since 20 min has passed by. I'm not sure what the server was thinking but she totally just ignored us until we literally had to shout "excuse me" before she could even give a slight glance. That was just the beginning. When our food arrived, we told her to put the plates in the centre since we were sharing but no she seemed to just ignore that comment and start handing plates for everyone to hold. As if we never told he to "put them in the centre". Food portions were small, there is not much difference between an appetizer size and an entree size. Not once did she check on us after serving us our food, until she had to be shouted at again. So after the rest of our party arrives and she offered to grab them drinks but she didn't even ask if the rest of us were doing okay, and we weren't, we wanted to order more drinks. Right when anyone to get a sentence in to the server she just replies "okay" and leaves when we're not even done ordering! You literally have to talk really fast if you want to finish making an order. It was very ridiculos. At one point, She walked away and we were like we're not done ordering yet! She didn't even seem like she cared. It was quite sad since the restaurant was some what decent but poor service just ruins it all. If I want to be ignored then I might consider coming back.
We went to a birthday party held at Relish on a Sunday evening. our party was about 30 people. the restaurant was dead as there were maybe two other couples sitting outside and almost done their dinner. The Lounge side was a little more busy. Any how, we noticed that was one server (our's), one bus boy, and one bartender in the lounge side, and perhaps a manager. when we were first seated (frist half of the party) we got our waters right away, menu's reight away, and was later asked to order our appetizers. within the next 10-15 minutes our full party of 30 had showed up (as reserved for), we noticed the waiter was taking longer which was fine as we know we are a large group. but after dinner was ordered, only 40% of us ended up recieving food, but may not have been what we ordered. i asked to speak with the manager and told him that maybe he should added help here since at that point there was litterally no on else in the restaurant. he said he doesn't have anyone else to send over, so i suggested that he (the manager) should help. he just shrugged hisshoulders and walked away. at this point we were all very dissapointed and hungry that everyone had asked for their bill but little did we know, the bus boy came out to only tell us that our server ran into the back and cried.
i guess the staff here can't handle a party of 30 nor does their sunday night manager want to help...
We went to Relish on Nelson last Saturday night with friends on their suggestion and had a *fantastic* time! Our friends had been several times in the past but it was our first time here and we were not disappointed! We had a wonton stack and a baked brie to share for appies and both were great. The wonton stack had a ton of mixed seafood (shrimp, scallops, salmon) with veggies and the brie came with this delicious cranberry sauce.
For dinner, I had the Lobster Ravioli and my boyfriend had the salmon which we both enjoyed thoroughly. Our friends split a veggie pizza and we all shared a bottle of wine. Our waitress was very attentive even though she looked quite busy and had a great sense of humour.
What I also thought was really neat was that after dinner we moved into the lounge where they had a DJ and the place was packed! It had a great atmosphere and I liked that it wasn't filled with 19 year olds. We also liked that it was busy but casual and didn't have that typical Granville St. macho guy vibe that we're all so sick of.
Overall, two thumbs up for Relish and I look forward to the next time I go!
At first I wasn't sure what to make of it... My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place on for a late Valentine's Day dinner. It was after 10:00pm and their kitchen was still open. I saw the menu and was puzzled by the arrangement. But definitely a lot of options I wanted to try out. I went with the Salmon Tempura Burger with wasabi mayo- the best decision I made all day! It was so delicious. The batter was very light and salmon was juicy. The Thai slaw was inside the burger made the whole combination fit together. Flavored mayo makes everything taste better.
Will come back for the crab salad sandwich!
Our first visit here after reading these reviews was flawless.
In the Vancouver dining out experience, this is high praise indeed.
Service was friendly, fast, attentive without being irritating, and excellent.
Ambiance is very nice without techno-garbage music like a lot of places these days.
All 3 meals were excellent. Inventive, perfectly prepared and very decent serving size.
This place is a keeper and hopefully can maintain this high level.
Menu has a variety of items that will satisfy different tastes. Food was superb from appies to desserts. Portions are decent and prices very reasonable. Servers are friendly and attentive. Great dining experience overall - very well-rounded. Will definitely return!
After checking out their menu online, I was kind of skeptical about eating here. I was still feeling skeptical when I sat down and stared at the menu. This place offers 4 different types of cuisines: Westcoast, Asian, Mediterranean, and American. This place didn't seem to have an identity, but I was wrong. I ordered a house salad, mussels and a $4.75 martini. Their bread is really good and has a fruity taste to it. The only downside was having ice in my martini, but what do you expect when it's $4.75 right? Oh yes, and one unopened mussel. The waiter was very attentive and the atmosphere is nice - a little bit dark though.
The value received from this restaurant was exceptional. We came on a Friday and much to our delight, it was $4.99 Martini Friday! They had a great selection of specialty Martinis.
As for the food, they had a great deal. They had a 4 tapa special for $36. We selected the Roasted Cashew Chow Mein, Sushi Rolls, Seafood stirfry and Chicken Sticks w/ Peanut Sauce. Everything was good. Not exceptional, but great for the price we paid. And the portions were not tiny tapas. They were a decent sized order. We did not leave here hungry and I definitely recommend going on a Friday if they still have the $4.99 martini deal.
Satisfying brunch items. Benedict was very good. Coffee was decent and the service was attentive and polite but not over the top. Good balance.
For staff lunches, big or small groups, I found the service was quite prompt and very good. The lunch food was also good. Sandwiches were unique and the salad with chicken in a tex mex style was tasty.
Afterwork it's a good place for drinks and good selection of fusion cuisine. Good service.
The dinner items were notably good. The duck risotto and pasta dishes are well accompanied by a an interesting fried bread. Burgers are decent and very good. It was not overly greasy. Very well balanced. Excellent ambiance. Perfectly lit and of course notably good service. Definitely a better restaurant than the pretentious chain restaurants in Vancouver. Good downtown dining in tucked away off the busy Granville mall.
OK - I have to admit that I was a little apprehensive to try another restaurant reccommended by my wife that I'd never heard of (often wonder why this is) but decided to go to Relish on Nelson. She'd gone with friends at some point and told me that she had a great time there so we went two Fridays ago. I actually didn't realize it at the time but the place used to be The Urban Well many years ago and boy has it changed! We walked through the front doors which were held but 2 hostesses into a packed (and I mean *packed*) house. We were asked if we had reservations and we didn't so were asked if we wanted to spend 15 mins in the bar on a wait for a table. We thought that wouldn't be too bad so did. The table luckily only took 5 mins and we were in and had appetizers to us quickly. My wife had 1/2 doz. oysters and I had baked brie both of which were fantastic. My wife had a salmon for dinner and I had BBQ Ribs which were (as my waiter told me they would be) unbelieveable. Without trying to sound too corny, they were the best ribs I have ever tried. After the cheese appetizer though, at the end of the ribs, I was feeling like I'd never eat again! I can't say enough about the waiter either. Very attentive without being overbearing. We loved everything about Relish and will be back again soon!
We went to Relish this past weekend after reading about it in Vancouver Magazine recently. It was all that the review lead us to hope it would be! We had a big group of 8 (4 couples) and made a booking the week before. We started in the main part of the restraurant where everybody shared some tapas. I tried the satay, some panfried seafood wonton thing and some crab cakes. They were all fresh and tasted fantastic! For dinner I had a salmon and it was right on the mark with a spicy rice pilaf and some vegetables. My girlfriend really liked her lambchops as well.
Everybody else had various other items that I didn't make specific note of but people were all thumbs-up when we left.
After dinner, we headed into their lounge where they had a packed dancefloor and a great DJ. All in all, it was a perfect rounded experience that I would reccommend to anyone!
Just about everything on the large menu sounds incredibly appetizing. The whole restaurant has a nice, relaxing atmosphere and the drinks lounge is a great place to hang out in. The greeting and wait staff are always friendly and accommodating. I'm surprised this place isn't more well known.
If someone were to ask me where is a great place to eat in Vancouver with great food, exemplary service, cleanliness, and an ambiance to go with it all,I would say Relish is simply the best.A lot of restaurants in Vancouver are over-hyped.Is it really that cool to pay $100 a meal for a piece of cold meat, crappy service, etc.Relish makes you feel welcome from the moment you arrive, the food is excellent, the service superb, the prices-very reasonable. The feeling when you leave is: WOW,I finally found a great restaurant.
Loved everything about this restaurant. First of all, nice decor, very intimate esp after I had the Lychee martini which was very tasty, sweet and strong. The dishes serve come in a reasonable portion esp the Ribs and Steaks. The Ahi Tuna Salad looked wonderful as well. Appetizers was delicious. I definitley go back for another round of martinis again.
