So I was researching which place in Vancouver were a good date spot. I found quite a few reviews on this place and decided to try it out. I have to say, I'm not sure there is any other place in Vancouver where you can find this type of ambiance!
We went on a Thursday night where they had live music ....it was great because it was a good ice breaker to start the night off. We had a couple of beers ...they have a pretty monstrous beer selection there.... and then we decided to hit the painting area. I'm not sure which other venue can offer you and your date such an interesting thing to do!! We bought a medium canvas and we just spent the next 2 hours painting and drinking! It was really really fun .... and good enough that we will be going out again!
looove it!
Their tagline is "Eat. Drink. Make art". Truly an amazing concept. Not the biggest food menu, but very well done. A great selection of wines and beers from around the world was impressive. And yes, we did buy a canvas and throw the paint around like we were kids. Awesome.
So I've read reviews on this place before and after reading about a review in the Vancouver Sun a few days ago I decided to finally try it out. And boy am I glad I did! This place is like a main street/commercial drive gem hidden in the heart of Yaletown
For those that haven't heard of this place .....it's a wine bar (with a good selection of beers too) ...tapas' place and an art studio ....yes an Art Studio!!
The place doesn't have it's own full kitchen so a lot of their foods are sourced from Nuba (awesome place) so don't go there expecting fancy resto food. It has a solid menu with good sharing foods! But the thing that makes it outstanding is their wine list ....all very reasonably priced and this place has an awesome vibe.
They have long tables setup so you go in and you just chill and chat with strangers at your table if you want or go buy a canvas and just start drawing! They have all the art work/paints/covers for free .... grab a glass of wine or beer .....chill or paint and depending on the night you go they also have live music!
anyways ... great place that I'd def hit up again!! good times good times!
I had heard about this place before but never got around to trying it until a great deal on Groupon came up! I bought 2 groupons and took my boyfriend there as part of his birthday celebration. We went late in the afternoon when they weren't that busy, which was nice because the dim lighting, flickering candles, long rugged tables and live band made it all seem so cozy and comfortable. The staff greeted us warmly and were personable. For the first time ever, we experienced our servers sitting down next to us and chatting with us about the menu. Some people may find that informal and rude, but we liked it because we were treated like their friends as opposed to just their customers. We each had a tasting platter which was delicious! After that, my boyfriend and I headed to the back of the restaurant in the art studio area where we spent the rest of the afternoon and part of the evening painting on our canvases. Everyone who was there seemed to really enjoy themselves. The only down side to this experience was the parking. I don't know how much we ended up spending but we had to keep adding to the meter because we didn't want to leave. Overall, a fun and different experience! A great way to spend the afternoon with your friends! We're thinking of bringing our friends next time!
On a recommendation, I made a reservation at Raw Canvas and went with my girlfriend on Saturday. I still can't believe that we hadn't been there before, and that it's in the middle of Yaletown. We were blown away by the place. I must have walked right by it 100 times over the last couple years and never noticed it was there!!
It's just cool...everything about it. There is a vibe in the room that I can't really put my finger on.....just cool. We sat at a long table that was shared with other customers, and make friends quickly with our neighbors. We shared an awesome cheese plate and tried a few of their beers. They have a huge selection of Belgian beers that I love (and get you buzzed pretty quick!). After that...we moved to the painting area and joined the paint party. We're not artists by any means, but had fun trying, and I'm pretty sure it turned out alright...(we left it there to dry....haven't picked it up yet, so we'll see....). Everyone was so friendly there, including the customers. We really had a great time and I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to go out and do something fun and different. Awesome.
