great atmosphere

Radha has a great atmosphere, with hardwood floors and exposed brick in a big, open space. The live folk music really added to the relaxing, calm feel of the place. It's also such a treat to go out for dinner on a friday night and not have to fight the crowds or feel rushed.

The food was tasty and presented well, and normally I would give it a "3," but when comparing it to other vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Vancouver (like the foundation), the quality of the food really rises above. Therefore, I'm giving the food a "4."

Nice little spot!

(Probably) one of the best veg places in town...

I'm a committed omnivore, but that doesn't mean I don't do veg once in a while (quite often in fact). One of my pet peeves is how most "western" restaurants make it such a big deal, yet provide such bland tasting ... crap. Head over to Indian or Chinese places to see what it should be like.

I was a bit skeptical about Radha, but I'm always up for an adventure. Fortunately, a good surprise. This place is way better than the Naan (I wouldn't waste your time there). The portions are quite sizeable here and preparation is unique and tasty. We had some some special rolls (sushi style), beet soup and some salad. All quite nice, especially the rolls. For mains, nut burger platter, some tomato+nut(?) "gnochi" and some tempeh.

The mains is where I'm a bit torn. On the one hand, it is tasty food. On the other hand (my gripe about vegetarian places in general), they tried to emulate the "real" thing, which inevitably begs a comparison, and in that regard, it falls flat. What's wrong with real gnocchi? Nothing, in fact, it's waaay better tasting. The tempeh? A tepid imitation of meat (chicken?) strips. And the burger? Anyone who's had a real meat burger and doesn't prefer it has a physiological problem (I'm not kidding, there are people like this).

Yeah, this is worth a try just to see what can be done with an all vegan place. But would I return ... ? Let's just say I had a bite of dry-aged steak tonight and I realize why I'm not a vegetarian, let alone a vegan. I'd rather live 80 years of more tastiness than 90 years of this stuff.

Favourite Vegetarian Restaurant

Radha has a very nicely edited menu that is not too big and has good variety. There are raw options, which is rare. Every time I've been there, the food has been consistent. The service is always good but can be a bit slow sometimes because they don't have that many people. Value wise, it is pricier than most other vegetarian restaurants but the quality of the food makes it worth it. The space was renovated not so long ago and looks wonderful.

A Real Gem

If you are seeking amazing veggie food and a classy environment, this is the place.
The ambiance is significantly more upscale than most veggie restaurants, but without coming near pretension. Fine dining, but not high-pressure.
The seating is somewhat limited, so next time I will make reservations; we were close to not getting a seat.
Our server was super friendly and had lots of suggestions when we asked.
The menu is not gigantic, but it changes with the seasons, and everything served is fantastic, and beautiful-looking as well. Lots of innovative dishes that are exciting to eat. I really recommend the nori rolls- they are to-die for and aren't your typical sushi. The portions aren't huge, but the quality is through the roof.
Overall, one of the best dining experiences I've had.

Even impressed the carnivore!

Don’t let the slightly dicey neighbourhood scare you off. Once inside, Radha is a tranquil haven. I’m not sure that I would refer to it as “fine dining” but it certainly is upscale-casual, especially when compared to other veggie spots in town. Our server was very genuine and knowledgeable about the menu, so even though I didn’t recognize some of the ingredients, it wasn’t intimidating at all. We were given an amazing nut mixture to nibble on while we looked over the choices. It was so good that I would go back for that alone! My bf and I shared the Dips & Bread, which was delish, and I had the Chickpea Curry as my entrée. It was fantastic and so big that I took half of it home. My bf is an absolute carnivore and I had to trick him into going to this restaurant, but surprisingly, even he couldn’t find fault with the Nut Burger.

Highly recommended.

trying to be positive here ...

The food is excellent, the servers are wonderful people, the price is totally reasonable. The raw special is always fantastic and the raw chef Patricia is an amazing person ... BUT ... some of the items are not organic. This is apparently because of "cost" but Radha owns the building, so their overhead should be pretty low. Not to mention it's a nonprofit organization. I am also of the opinion that chefs in a vegan restaurant should be vegan, or at least the head chef, and this is not the case here. Having cut tofu from the menu they're making progress, but still feature many dishes and desserts containing gluten and baked goods. If you're looking for a nice place to bring a date then this is it, but if you insist on maximum health benefits from your food, you'll have to look elsewhere.

Mixed Feelings

I 've been to Radha about half a dozen times and I'd have to say they're one of the better veg resturants in town.
It's nice to go out and be able to trust that the menu is vegan AND to have options.
I've never disliked any of my entrees, but I always leave with the feeling that I could have made my meal at home. I also find it's a little on the pricey side when I consider how full I feel after I leave (even with an app, main and dessert).
The staff is usually super friendly, but not in your face annoying, and the building is beatiful! (except for the moron sitting beside me in the fur coat the last time I was there- not radha's fault though).
Overall it's a good little spot to nibble on some vegan eats and sip feremented tea (which I've forgotten the name of) in good company.

Radha's always a treat. The food never disappoints, the service is consistently on par and the atmosphere is worth soaking in. I suppose my only complaint would be the amount of food you get for your dollar is a little high, but it's usually well worth it anyway. If you're looking for a new vegan restaurant and you haven't tried Radha, go now.

An excellent vegetarian dining choice

Walking by Radha many times, I had no idea the delights that awaited my choosing to finally dine there. A pleasant surprise awaited me.

The food was very good and, as a bonus, organic. I had a lovely organic wine with dinner, which I really enjoyed. Because they use healthy grains, the food is very filling, so we didn't eat dessert (so this rating is about the excellent appy and main).

The server was aware and considerate - not overdoing it and not neglectful; just the right balance.

The prices are very reasonable and we were surprised such excellent food came at the price on the menu.

The brick interior with old hardwood floors made it feel really open and yet homey. And it was delightful to have a musician playing live music.

I highly commend Radha to anyone who enjoys wholesome and vegetarian food. We will definitely be returning.

Evolutionary Taste Experience

I know the rule is to be objective. The food was an adventure, a pleasure I keep remembering. I felt evolved afterwards reflecting on the delight in the taste, and the quality and creativity of the food combinations.
The vegetarian and vegan food was beautifully presented which added to the special experience. I felt like I was honoring the food, where it came from, how it was prepared, and also treating my own body, it was so nourishing. The reuban sandwich was such a creative thing! The taste elements of caraway, starch, meat, mustard, and a touch of horseradish was all done with vegetables alone, and thin pieces of tempeh. I am came to dinner, knowing the Radha Yoga and Eatery when it was first begun, and was amazed at what it has grown into. Radha is a happening place, such a varied group of customers all enjoying eating and listening to music. Served by bright and calm people. All of it done with verve.
The cheesecake felt and tasted like cheesecake with cheese and it looked beautiful as well.
When I left the restaurant I felt satisfied, elevated, and not full and heavy. And that's why I call it an evolutionary experience.
Thank you to all who make this experience available!

Radha is AMAZING!

Submitted Sunday, November 26, 2006 - 8:14am [Dine in]

I had wanted to try Radha for a long time before I actually did. That's because when I heard that they do Yoga there during the day and then it's a restaurant at night, I couldn't figure out how those two went together. I don't do yoga and I pictured a yoga studio with a restaurant inside? I just couldn't grasp the concept.

Fortunately, I finally went there with my wife to try it on a Friday night. IT WAS AMAZING! Radha is located upstairs inside an old brick building on the edge of Chinatown. The atmosphere is really cool - the floors, walls and ceiling are original (approximately 100 years old) and the space has been converted to make it open yet authentic. Large picture windows overlook the city on one side and a long bar awaits you on the other side.

Radha is extremely clean. The service was extremely courteous, fast and friendly. The food was, well it was the absolute best Vegetarian food I have ever had the pleasure to eat. They take food to a totally new level with flavors and combinations that are simply delicious.

Radha serves beer & wine, all organic selections (Natureland organic beer and varous organic wines). Their food choices range from a hemp-seen pate in a nori roll to a Vegan Napolean. Deserts range from a raw vegan bananna coconut creme cake to raw vegan chocolate with pomegrante sauce (both were EXTRMELY DELCIOUS - WARNING - IT WAS SOOOO GOOD THAT IT'S ADDICTIVE!).

My wife and I liked it so much that we took a group of our meat-eating friends there the next week. They too loved it and now frequent the place on their own.

The bottom line is that this restaurant should not be missed. After trying Radha please post your review below. I'm quite sure that you will find it to be one of the most amazing restaurants you have ever had the pleasure to eat at.

What a feast of flavours, textures, arrangement, colours and combinations! Wow, thank you team radha for such a treat.

It has been a while since I have been to radha, but with vegan foodie family members visiting for the first time in 3 years who have listened to me rave and rave about the restaurant, I couldn't wait any longer. Swept in from the chilly outdoors to the bustling atmosphere, my guests coming from Hawaii were embraced by the warmth and light.

Several times during the meal comments were made about the incredible attention given to presentation, health and flavour. "You can taste the care and love that is given to each dish", "I can't believe the beautiful food that they have created and so healthy" "You know it is good food when you can eat so much and still feel energized" "I think this is the best meal we have had in a long time"

We all ordered the special 3 course meal (appetizer, entree and desert for $27), finding it hard to choose between the options. Great value!

The weekly appetizer special "for the love of local food" was an incredible spelt gnocchi with roasted beets in a cranberry reduction - beautiful!
The perogies filled with roasted squash and pan fried mushrooms, toped with sunflower sour cream ("really" said my vegan relatives - "they can do that with sunflower seeds? so creative!") and served on a bed of homemade sauerkraut - were rich and complex in flavour.
Even the great seeds and greens salad got rave reviews: "Taste it, it is such a great combination of textures and tastes, ummm"
Entrees were dominated by the pine-smoked portobello mushroom steak
with butternut squash brown rice risotto, winter greens and parsnips. I would have liked a bit more salt, but I seemed to be in the minority. My sister and brother-in-law fought over who got to finish off the dish.
And in combination with the raw special - a buckwheat pizza crust topped with pesto marinated veggies was excellent.

Desert - wow, after such a meal. Pumpkin pie and molten chocolate cake - both rich and decadent, sweet endings to a great meal.

Such a honour to be able to bring special guests to such a special place.

Thank you for creating such beautiful healthy food.

Radha Rocks!

Radha is really an experience that should not be missed. It's the sort of place that I find myself very attached to. It's much more then just a regular restaurant. It's clear that the staff puts a lot of heart into the food, they truly care and it shows.

Radha isn't even a regular business, it is a non-profit! It is really hard for me to describe Radha in such a short review. The food is truly spectacular - everything from a Vegan Napolean to a Vegan Ceasar Salad, Vegan Pad Thai and delicious raw Vegan chocolate!!

The staff is warm and friendly and the ambiance really ties the entire place together. Radha is unlike anything else I have ever experienced, and I love it! I have to give Radha a 5 out of 5 on every category. If I gave it even one mark less, I would be incorrect. Try it and you'll understand.
