Prestons Restaurant is located in Downtown Vancouver. They offer a stylish, modern and upbeat atmosphere with a fresh menu, dynamic room and friendly staff.
You find with restaurants that exist in hotels there usually isn't anything that really makes you want to eat there over-and-over again. This for sure can be said of Prestons.
While there's nothing really wrong with the service, the food, and heck even the ambiance ( there a very small bar area off to the side and an equally small area where you could just have a coffee next to it ), the place just lacks a real "wow" factor ( picture how the chains look i.e. Milestones, Cactus, White Spot et. al. ) You go and eat, and then you leave. No lasting impression is made in your mind. There's not a thrilling food/service/ambiance experience to be had here. Just okay.
Would I go here to eat with people again? Sure, if we're staying with friends in the hotel again. No if I'm looking for something to really enjoy.
I bought a discount coupon on Groupon and thought we should check this place out. We were seated at a nice table with cool red chairs that matched the servers dresses, How awesome is that? I ordered the Thai bowl with chicken and shrimp. Amazing flavours, nice portion. My friend had the seafood linquini which got rave reviews. The servicewas great, The manager stopped by to check to see how everything was, and didnt make you feel bad about using a coupon, Will definately go back and pay full price!!!
we arrived, seated promptly, then we waited for about 10 minutes to be even acknowledged , then we had to flag a waiter down just to get a drink order, then the drinks arrived 10 minutes later. had to flag him again to get food order, when the food finally arrived my chicken and brie sandwich was so grotesquely huge there was no way to even pick it up! I had to leave it sitting there while i flagged the waiter again who never came back to see how we were doing. I asked for it to be cut in three or bring me a steak knife. Another 10 minutes while i see him serving drinks so i flagged another waiter to bring me a knife. By this time the sandwich has absorbed all the drippy juices and the bread was the equivalent of mushy white wonder bread.
the food in honesty is equivalent of milestones and cactus club etc... the boring franchise places which we never go to . Why would anyone ever go to a franchise chain restaurant in Vancouver when there are so many good places to try? better yet why does anyone on this forum even review those types of restaurants theyre all the same, get out and try something small and local. Prestons has two locations and has the potential to be good but its completely average in all respects.
would we go back to Prestons? no. would I recommend it ? no.
next to abigails party this is the worst service we've experienced and watching the other patrons I dont think we just had a bad server.
I've been to Prestons twice now and both times i've enjoyed both the food and the service. Our waiter was very professional and friendly and the food was flavourful and a refreshing take on classic dishes.
The restaurant itself is gorgeous and modern and their wine list was varied. It was a pleasant break from cactus club and earls and I will definitely be going back.
Empty, boring restaurant with too many staff hanging around doing nothing. Very limited and boring menu. Extremely limited wine list.
Why do restaurants have one server take your order and then have someone else from kitchen bring the food out and consequently don't know who the food is for. And what's with the cutlery wrapped up the napkin. Don't they know how to set the table.
I tried this restaurant last night with my boyfriend. We were seated at the edge of the restaurant, by the front entrance. I guess that should have been an indicator of the poor service we would receive for the duration of the night because our waitress barely came by, despite us being there past the dinner rush. We were there for an hour and a half, and I felt like half of the time was spent waiting for someone to come around so that we could order or get something we needed. We ordered the seafood linguine and the chipotle chicken burger with yam fries. We both found the seafood linguine to be quite bland, although the seafood was very fresh (especially the clams and mussels). The chicken burger was a bit better but could have more chipotle/flavor to it. The yam fries were great, very crispy and a generous portion. For dessert, we got the apple galette. It was pretty good but a bit hard to break off with a spoon because the pastry is a bit hard/caramelized, so we waited for another 15 mins or so to try to get someone's attention. I'm not sure if it was worth 8 dollars though, the dessert was a bit bigger than the size of a deck of cards. The decor and ambiance of this restaurant is very nice though.
