Despite not having a working phone, we decided to stop by so we could use up our groupons from theredpocket.com.

Upon arriving, we found that Posh @ Broadway had closed down due to not paying their rent. If anyone still has groupons to use, Richmond was willing to take my groupons (of course if you honor the 24-hour-reservation policy). It's sad, considering that I considered the service at Broadway far superior to the service at the Richmond location.

I've been to Posh a couple of times before, so when the Red Pocket deal came up (2 for 1 AYCE sukiyaki), I was pleasantly surprised and picked a voucher up to dine with a friend.

I made a reservation Saturday for a Sunday evening dinner, and when we arrived it was fairly slow -- just three tables other than us. The music was fairly loud, though, and a rather interesting choice of profanity-laden hip-hop/rap. I wasn't particularly offended but did raise my eyebrows at that.

The dinner itself was fairly uneventful and the food available was good, though for some reason I had expected there to be a greater vegetable selection than there was. I wasn't really disappointed by the selection, though; the fact that we had to flag down a server every single time we needed them was a little annoying.

However, when the bill came, there was an automatic 15% "gratuity - coupon use" on it. I had read other reviews where people were upset by a mandatory tip being tacked on to the bill, so this wasn't a surprise. I assume that the managers of the store had decided they were losing too much money off the Red Pocket deal and were seeking to recoup costs. Either that, or people didn't know that a tip is the percentage of the total before the discount, not after.

Nevertheless, I do not appreciate being told how much money I will leave as a tip, and I am a habitual 20% tipper -- though this time would probably have been 15% due to the indifferent service. I paid the bill precisely as it was given to me, and will not return -- there are plenty of hot pot joints around that I don't need to come back here.

Dishonest and Overcharging
By arbutus3620 of Vancouver (1 Review)
Submitted Saturday, February 18, 2012 - 9:04pm [Dine in]

I used two of the $25 coupons with my family of 6. And my final bill came to almost $180 with me having to cough out $100 extra on top of the coupons I paid for. We did not order anything special except for 2 additional -all-you-can-eat meals and one extra drink. What made it more expensive is their compulsory service charge which was almost $29. I asked them why do I have to pay that amount and they said they changed the policy because people were giving a tip of $5. Their service charge of $29 is already equivalent to 1.5 adults in their all-you-can eat menu.
We were asked to sit in a table that had no lights. When asked to be transferred, they moved us to the cold section of the restaurant. Am not sure why its cold but it was. I think the restaurant made an error in their promo and is now losing money. Now they are trying to make up for it by gouging their customers. This is going to backfire on them because after I have used up my coupons, there is no way I will go back!!
There are no savings in these coupons. None at all! Might as well just walk in there and pay full price!

Posh Voucher a Lie

My friends and I used the "$25 for all-you-can eat food and drinks voucher for two" from theredpocket. 4 of us used the vouchers and the other 2 paid the regular price ($17 + $6 for upgrade of meat). We ordered four drinks, which were included in our voucher and shared it with our other two friends. When the bill came, they charged us for 6 drinks which is reasonable since we did indeed share our drinks, but there was no mention of this extra charge while eating. Furthermore, we only ever had 4 drinks at the table - if they were going to charge us for 2 extra drinks, they should have mentioned this to us and we therefore could have 6 drinks at the table, instead of continually sharing the 4. Also, they charged us tax for the full price of our meals ($23x6) whereas they should have only charged us tax on top of the voucher price ($12.50x4 + $23x2). Lastly, after paying, we hung back to chat a bit and the manager came back over, asking us to tip MORE or else the "waiters would have to pay tip out of their own pocket"...okay, last time I checked, unless stated, the customers decide how much tip to pay. Overall, I had to pay an EXTRA $10.00 for the tax+tip on a $12.50 meal.

Not more than a '2'

The food was ok. The sampler that came out at first was the best, any food refill after that was just a mish mash of stuff thrown together on a plate so not appetizing when it arrives. But, for less than $14 all u can eat it is worth it. The beef and pork were sliced thinly and there were interesting vegetables that came with it. Service was slow but this is due to the crowd and lineup. This is not a place one can go back over and over again. The sauce that they used for the pot is tasty and sweet, I found the propane burner the restaurant placed on the table top was tacky. Felt it could have been better and classier if they had hidden the burner under the table or something but maybe that wasn't feasible. I will probably go back a year from now, and after I get the stench of a table top cooked food out of my sweater and jacket. That's right, don't go wearing your fav clothes cuz ventilation is not good here and stock up on febreeze.

Food:
I really liked their beef-it's premium albertan beef! The fishcake and fish on the otherhand....was terribly fishy. I don't know if it went bad, but it was just off. Vegetables were good...especially the bamboo shoots! I just wished they had more varieties when it came to the meat. There was only beef, pork, and fish. But then again, at this price, what do you expect?

Service: Quick and friendly service. Only thing keeping them from getting 5 stars on this review is that they forgot the beansprouts I ordered and they were a bit slow on refilling water. But considering it's AYCE, service was quite good.

Value: You can't beat the price! Under $12 for AYCE hotpot lunch is pretty good value in my opinion.

Ambiance: This restaurant has a 'modern' look to it: 4 flashy tv's, etc. However, wear and tear on the furniture has begun to shown and needs replacing!

Never going back. Do not recommend this to anyone!

It was my first time dining at Posh for Sukiyaki hot pot. The menu had option B or C (no A) for the hot pot choices. Option C was $4 more because it included ONE drink. My boyfriend wanted option C and I wanted B. The waitress told us that we BOTH have to order the same option even though the difference was ONE drink because that was company policy.

The selection was limited. You only get choice of beef or pork and the rest were veggies. We ordered 8 portions of beef and what was served to us was disgusting. It was plates and plates of pure FAT. There was no or soooooo little beef attached. Every plate was like this. We launched a complaint that this "beef" was just not edible. The waitress says that all their beef are like that and people DO complain about it but they have not done anything about it. She said we can pay $6 EXTRA per person to get angus beef. At any other all-you-can-eat hot pot restaurant, you can get DECENT beef for the $20 that you pay for. So we paid $20 basically to eat vegetables.

Mind you, they also charge $1 extra PER sauce when other hot pot places give you FREE sauce. We had no choice but to order pork and they served us an empty plate stacked between our pork. We ordered soft tofu and they gave us frozen ones. The fish cakes had a nasty fishy taste to it. We tried waving a waitress down for more water and they just glanced over us and walked right passed us. We flagged the manager down and he told us to hold on and went to grab our server, THEN he went to join his friend in a booth to eat.

This is the WORST dining experience I have ever had and will NEVER go back. I have already told all our friends to NOT go to Posh unless you want to pay $20 for veggies. Just because it is called POSH does not mean you can over charge for everything and give poor service.

Service was terrible. We had a very large group (15+) and it took more than 15 minutes to get water and then 20 minutes to get our bill. Then we were dinged with an auto 15% gratuity for almost no service. The food is ok but you can buy a hotpot and make it at home and save a lot of money. I do not recommend.

Ok, I've been here 3 times. The first 2 times were great. I don't really want to talk about what happened the last time I went but I think I should.
The last time I was there, I was with a guest. We ate like crazy. 5 orders of beef & pork and lots of veggies. Everything was fine and dandy. The food was tasty as usual. The service was pretty good considering that there was only 1 server per 9 tables. I felt sorry for her.
After we left the restaurant, we went for a short walk. 15 mins later that, our stomachs were hurting. The next we know was that we had to run to the nearest washroom. Keep in mind, most places were closed. It was terrible. We both had diarrhea. I had it twice and it wasn't funny. So in the end, we were wondering what went wrong. For sure it was the food from Posh but don't know which food items since we ate so much. I think the meat was pretty fresh but some veggies did looked like it's been sitting around for awhile.
It's so unfortunate to say that I might not come here again. I'm quite disappointed because my bf loves this place. I dunno what to tell him.

First time I've tried Sukiyaki.... this is an all you can eat japanese hot pot style restaurant and I must say, while it was a bit fattier than what I expected, it's very very good.

Each hot pot comes with pork and beef plus a variety of different tofus and veggies. The soup base is provided along with water so it's adjustable to your tastes. Raw eggs are also given if you like to dip your cooked food in it... it was an interesting experience!

For ten bucks at lunch and 13 for dinner, you can't go wrong with this all you can eat joint which also has decent atmosphere. It is well ventilated and has a surprisingly young team running the show -- and they do a good job.

For beverages, try to "Green Sofa" its really refreshing!

Sukiyaki worth trying out

Submitted Monday, May 11, 2009 - 9:01am [Dine in]

My family decided to go here for a Mothers day dinner after my father has been here before and though ti was pretty good.

FOOD
I thought the food was good, vegetables were fresh, but with sukiyaki anywhere the flavSuour gets tiring, and is not something i would want to eat that often.

SERVICE
The host/hostess was quite polite, and brought us to our table very quickly after coming in. Our server was very polite, attentative and good at explaining everything throughout our dinner. The only thing that went wrong was she forgot our waters that we asked for near the end of dinner and was a litlte slow settling up when we wanted to leave.

AMBIANCE
Ok atmosphere, and nice that they have a few big screen TVs, although the place was very chilly, and I notice most ppl around were still wearing their jackets.

Overall it was a good experience, and worth checking out, but I dunno if its something like AYCE sushi that i would want to go for that often.

Hotpot, Japanese style

I came here for a friend's birthday several months back. I had no idea there was a Sukiyaki here.

Of course we had reservations; approximately a dozen or so guests. Seated quickly we were all going with the AYCE hotpot. You tick off items on an order sheet and we all loaded up on the hotpot staples: thinly sliced beef and pork, tofu, shitake mushrooms, leafy greens, and udon noodles. There were several interesting choices including taro cubes. Each person were given a raw egg, to be cracked into your bowl and mixed and used to dip your food in. Fresh ingredients are used; it's a good haven for vegetarians. All of us couldn't get enough meat to come and true to the other reviewers, the beef is on the fatty side.

Service wasn't memorable but I had no complaints. As soon as one server showed up to drop off more orders, another server walked by to clear our towers of empty cubicle boxes. One server was particularly helpful though and explained some of the dishes to us.

The atmosphere is casual yet unobtrusive. It's a bit tight at the table but it is fairly spacious otherwise. Great vibe you can feed off of for a few people or more eating here.

Hotpot is somewhat of an acquired taste since it can come off as bland. It's simple, no nonsense ingredients are welcoming on a cold day and really hits the spot. I wish they had more meat items and seafood items, as I don't remember seeing any. Good value and a good time to boot.

I had never heard of Posh before my friend wanted to go here for dinner. Sukiyaki, what the heck is that? Well, it's like a more salty hot pot, where you have a pot at your table and you get all the raw veggies, tofu, and meat you want to put into it and cook. It was great! Even better than hot pot, in my opinion. The base is vegetarian so if you just put veggies and tofu/fake meats into it, it is good for vegetarians too. A really fun evening! I will definitely be back.

Food: it's hot pot style, so I guess if something isn't cooked right, you can't blame anyone but yourself :p That being said, the food that's provided was all very nicely prepared: meat (beef and pork) thinly sliced, veggies (good variety of veggies avaliable) all clean and fresh.

Service: outstanding for AYCE. Server came by to explain/educate us on the Sukiyaki experience. Drinks were constantly refilled. Dishes cleared promptly. Food came quickly. Was very impressed by how they politely reminded us about the 2 hrs limit at 1.5 hr and asked for our final order, then at 2 hrs kindly and patiently reminded us again and explained to us that there are people waiting (huge lineup out the door actually). It was done it a way that was not rude/didn't feel like we were being kicked out.

Value: decent for if you're only going with the simplest option. If you change soup bases or order drinks, it gets to be a bit pricy.

Ambiance: Clean and sleek. My only complaint is that there is still a lot of steam/smoke from the hot pots: maybe need better ventilation?

FOOD: i think i've eaten at this location 4 times in the last 2 months; i've eaten at the richmond location twice in the last 2 months. i really love this restaurant. you always get great value. we were pleasantly surprised by the special they have going on: AYCE sashimi + angus beef for $22. how awesome is that??!

SERVICE: our waiter was extremely polite and was literally working his @$$ off; he was running to and from the kitchen, our tables, and the drinks counter. i actually felt sorry for him for busting his @$$ off the way he did. he was apologizing for forgetting things or for the kitchen being slow in giving us our sashimi. i don't know what the other 3 waitresses were doing b/c i never once saw them after i sat down. the service is always good at this location; the waitresses are friendly and quick to give us more order sheets, fill both the water and sauce pots, and topping up our glasses of water.

it sucks that parking is $2/hr but given that we don't ever have a time limit eating at this location, i'd rather be here than in the richmond location with free parking.

I don't have much experience with sukiyaki hot pot so I have no standard to compare it to.

That being said, I enjoyed the experience although I don't imagine I will be back simply because I don't think its a dish I would go out of my way for. Still, the quality was pretty good, and I enjoyed myself and left full.

The place was extremely busy! We didn't have to wait, but by the time we finished, there was a hefty line out the door and the dining room was packed. This is a Tuesday too, so thats amazing. Very popular, I worry for the place next door.

I think this would be a good date spot since it gives you something to do and talk about if conversation falls flat. Same goes for Korean BBQ, which I would probably prefer.

Great place, Horrible Service

Submitted Saturday, October 3, 2009 - 11:46pm [Dine in]

The ambience was really nice, and the food was alright as well. The customer service however, leaves a lot ot be desired. Half way in our meal the waitress came over and told us that there was a reservation in five minutes and we had to leave. Whereas I understand that reservations are important, being given a 5 minute warning was pretty upseting to us.

To make matters worse, as we were on our way out, the manager came over and asked us why we didn't tip. I have always been under the impression that tipping was voluntary, and a sort of "thank you" for good service - and not something to be confronted about if you don't.

I have to say if you are looking for food and atmosphere and decent prices, the place is great. Until you're asked to leave half way through dinner with a 5 minute warning.

Bad Service, Incompetent Management!
By d-lish of Oakridge, Vancouver (1 Review)
Submitted Thursday, May 7, 2009 - 11:11pm [Dine in]

What a horrible experience I had with my family and a guest from out of town. I chose the restaurant based on its location and ease of ordering because it was all-you-can-eat. I was so embarassed by my choice of the restaurant because of the way management treated us.

When I called in to make a reservation, I told them how that we had a child in our party and if it was ok. She replied not a problem and did not tell me about their policy for children dining in the restaurant. There policy was if the child was taller than the hostess stand then the child would have to pay the full adult price regardless of how much the child ate or how old the child was.

We were about to order our food and the waitress counted the number of people there. She included the child so the mother asked about the pricing. She told us the policy and we questioned it so she told us she'll ask the manager and get back to us. She never did and brought us our food so we assumed that it was already settled.

Dinner was alright...nothing to be excited about. Selection was limited only to pork/beef for meat and some vegetables and noodles. They also charge extra for sauces. I would pay an extra couple more dollars to go to a different hot pot restaurant that do not charge extra for sauce and drinks.

At the end of dinner, they gave us our bill and charged our entire party as adults. We were surprised that they counted the little girl who is 6 in our group as an adult. She barely ate anything and was busy drawing and colouring the entire time. We asked our server and she insisted that she couldn't do anything about it and said that we could speak to the manager. We spoke to him but he was absolutely NO help whatsoever. He just restated the policy and said that if we wanted to, we could speak to his manager. What a waste of time talking to him then. The so-called manager then called another person on the phone and passed the phone to the mother of the child. I have never been to a restaurant where we had to speak to someone on the phone to get some service! Finally in the end, the person on the phone authorized for a child's price on the little girl's meal.

The whole ordeal was absolutely RIDICULOUS! The manager, if he was really the manager, should have been able to make the call himself and save the restaurant's customers some grief. We would absolutely NEVER go back. I intend to tell everyone in my network not to go to this restaurant.

On top of that, the new bill they gave us was incorrect! They had overcharged us by an extra adult. What a great way to top off our experience. DO NOT GO! There are better hot pot restaurants than this one with better value and food.

Posh changed =(.. Now it is an OIL + Priced Up hotpot.. it is super OILY!!
By foodforthot of Vancouver (2 Reviews)
Submitted Wednesday, April 15, 2009 - 4:42pm [Dine in]

I've been to Posh 6-7x in the last 2yrs and I was mainly satisfied with it.

A few days ago, I went to Posh again (on Broadway) and I was taken by surprise. Prior to this recent visit, I haven't visited Posh for a while already.. maybe half a year. And wow, I must say they changed a lot within half a yrs time.

Price: Before, they charged $13.88/person for all you can eat. Now, they charge $15.88/person.

Value: They totally shrunk the sizes of the beef plates. Before, there is approximately 8-9 slices of beef per plate. Now, there is only 4-5 slices of beef per plate. For veggies they do have a bit more of variety, but fact is most people (who aren't vegetarians) come to hotpot wanting to eat more meat.

Quality: I must say their beef was better quality before. It was more tender, juicy, and the amount of fat blended in well. Now, the beef is often dry and rough, tastes bland, and the amount of fat is frightening. Now after I cook the meat, I can see a whole STRIP of fat (all white in color). 2/3 of the beef slice is all fat. It is worse than or similar to bacon, which is pretty scary.

Drinks: Well, in my opinion, they always had overpriced drinks. Mixing in some tap pop and food coloring/syrup doesn't cost $5 per drink. But what really surprises me is now they even charge for TEA. Yes, to compensate for the charge, they no longer pour tea that's already boiled and steeped in a pot. They give you a TEABAG instead and you can refill it with more hot water. However, that tea bag has absolutely no 'tea' taste at all. It is equivalent to drinking warm water.

OILY SOUP BASE!!!
Before, Posh's Sukiyaki soup base often lost all of it's flavor after 40 or so minutes of cooking, which is fine I guess. I mean, you can't really do anything about it when the soup base completely dries up and all you can do is add more water to keep it boiling so you can cook. Eventually, the soup base loses all of its flavor.

Now, their soup base not only loses all its flavor after a while, it turns into an OIL BASE hot pot!! I don't know where alllll that oil comes from. Does anyone know? Is it because of the chunk of butter that they throw in the soup at very beginning? I don't really think so, because before they threw in that same chunk of butter and although it was oily, it wasn't THAT bad. So I'm wondering if its the amount of crazy FAT from the beef slices that I described earlier. Well either way, my mouth was shining and completely filled with oil. Both me and my bf felt SICK after. I just felt like I was SOAKED in OIL. Horrible, seriously.

Great place to go with friends

I love going here for a dinner with friends. Its VERY cheap all you can eat hot pot (although their menu is small compared to other restaurants, there are basically no hidden charges like the others, and me and my friends just eat meat most of the time and this suffices). You can sit here for a while, eat good food over a sukiyaki hotpot.

Food is good, service is usually good (been here about 6-8 times, service ranges from ok to excellent).

Its very small, so if you plan to go there for dinner, I'd suggest making reservations!
